POLL: How satisfied are you with the 2015 FB Class?
Dr Z replied to K92's topic in Akron Zips Football
Of the choices given, I voted 'wait and see.' Boring answer, I know. But, from following Akron recruiting for more than two decades, I know one thing by looking at a list of high school kids. I know nothing. For me, it's impossible to judge from looking at a list of kids with some stars next to their names, and some high school football highlights playing against who knows what kind of talent. In my opinion, one of the most important things, is how hard a kid is going to come in and work at his craft. How much muscle, or weight will he put on? Will he take to coaching? Will he understand it? How do you judge that? When I see these kids padded up and playing against similar talent, I can evaluate effectively. Otherwise I'm only guessing. Back in the early 90's I used to cut out the top 100 recruits from the USA Today and put them in a folder. After checking the senior class after four years, I realized it was pretty useless because more than half of those guys weren't contributing to college football in any significant way. I stopped doing it when I realized that some "expert" getting paid to "evaluate" these kids couldn't even get half of them "correct." -
The Zips are favored to win by three. The game is onTime Warner Cable SportsChannel & ESPN3. Deji Ibitayo has more double-figure scoring performances in his last 30 games (15) than he had in his previous 60 games (5). Akron is 32-5 at home in league play since the start of the 2011 MAC schedule. A victory will be the eighth-straight win at JAR for the Zips. There have only been two road winning streaks in the series, both posted by Akron (3-0, 1977-78 and 1998). More at go zips dot com.

I really think we beat OU in this category. It was very close though.

The 2015 Football Commitment List
Dr Z replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
I thought it was interesting yesterday that coach Bowden mentioned how Doc Holliday has reached success through his recruiting. Seems both have a little something in common as to the area. I hope we continue to look into playing Marshall and UCF. Seems like former MAC members Marshall and UCF are getting mentions for having a good day yesterday. Here is a list of where our offers ended up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXTQ2172zKg&feature=youtu.be -

That is a well written perspective. I thought it was funny that coach Bowden referenced the bad call in his press conference yesterday. Reminder, "Three things can happen when you pass the ball, and two of them are bad" --Woody Hayes. Baldwin apologizes to Hilltopper...and Revis.

Interesting point. I wondered sometimes if I was just wearing down from decades of it. I know I don't enjoy it the way I used to. I think I might have "outgrown" the sophomoric shenanigans. I cringe when it spills over to the fan base.

The 2015 Football Commitment List

I like the way they are running the press conference. Good idea whomever was in charge. Lots of ZipsNation members asking good questions. Good job guys! I'll let those members post the answer to their questions. -
I'll be interested in this matchup. From the little I've seen, I like Ndour's game. Not sure how the matchup will go, but I do know, of the multiple whistles blown on PF34, most of them will be turri-BULL. #wahref

I think that happens at 3 pm. This is done very well, and is being updated. -
Proof that Tom Brady reads ZipsNation.

I wish the Zips could play Columbus State in the first or second round. #TeamOhio If that can't happen, then I want VCU to play Columbus State to see what doofus tweets then.

Spygate was a tad worse than a little pressure in some balls. Keep in mind Billy boy was found guilty, and is still in the league when he should have been, at the very least suspended. Yeah, that ranks right up there with a 15 yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct from Baldwin. Sorry, I believe your argument is lacking. If an image of Baldwin's juvenile "celebration" upsets you more than a coach and organization blatantly cheating (spygate), then I guess that's just your personal choice. Cheating multiple athletes/coaches/trainers/employees hard work and dedication trumps any "gesture" anyone on a football field can make in my book. I'm with Ed. and coach Shula...and many others that played the game. Getting back to the topic, coach Carroll says he would have run the ball if he had TWO timeouts!?! Well, I know when the clock hit zero, he still had one! Paper Champions echoes some of my previously posted thoughts in this article.

I finally got around to trying this place. Good suggestion. I can agree with everything written above. I'll give it a B-. I second DiG's advice about the reservation. I called Friday first thing, there were only two reservations for four left that evening. They have a bar, and you can eat at the bar if you can get a spot, but the bar is pretty small (a dozen people). The margaritas are good. If you like spicy, they infuse a tequila with peppers and it was the perfect amount of heat for me. The two girls I was with claimed it was too "hot." I think they had five or so different margaritas. They also had four or so different "toppings" for your rim. I liked the smoked salt the best. I don't see a listing of margaritas on the site. They might change them too. I was told by a co-worker he had a smoked pineapple, but the waitress said it was a summer drink. For the beer only drinkers, they had a cooler full of craft bottles and cans (just clap your hands). I think they only had five taps, but it's not an issue IMO. Akron could use a dozen more places like this. Oh yeah, parking is a challenge. I used the deck a couple blocks away and didn't have to pay.

Hmmm, I don't remember reading this, but seems appropriate since the wrong person got the MVP again. I never considered the same thing might have been the case with Malcolm. Smith, a former University of Akron cornerback, should have been the Most Valuable Player in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 48-21 victory over the Oakland Raiders.Smith intercepted two Rich Gannon passes and returned them both for touchdowns, still a Super Bowl record. But because his second came with two seconds remaining, the honor went to safety Dexter Jackson, who also notched two of the Bucs’ record five interceptions. Jackson’s turnovers led to three points for the Buccaneers, Smith’s resulted in 12. That has prompted a few websites to list Jackson among the most undeserving MVP recipients. Because of deadline issues, members of the media who vote for MVP might turn in their choice with a few minutes remaining, although a league spokesman said there have been occasions where it wasn’t decided until the game ended. HT, your dislike for one of the best db's (and nice guys) in the league befuddles me. Your dislike seems based on a twenty second interview of raw emotion seconds after walking away from a physical contact sport. I still agree with Tommy from Forbes. We'll have to agree to disagree. Oh yeah, one more thing...."LOB!" I'll side with Shula on the dirtbag (long history) that participated in this SB. IMO, he shouldn't even be allowed on an NFL field, but I guess yelling into a microphone for some is viewed as more (insert your own word here).

The 2015 Football Commitment List

The "search" function at the top right of the page is an good tool for such a situation. Like JZ84 wrote, 22 pages are hard to read and remember. -
Celebrate on the biggest stage. Coach Bowden, please deliver me talent like this to watch. I would love to see this image in B&W on the back of the info scoreboard with a title "It all starts at UA"...or something to that effect. PS No comments on the UA SB commercials?

The 2015 Football Commitment List

A running back from Florida that runs a 4.85? I like him listed at WR running a 4.5 better. Listed as Athlete here. -
Celebrate when you win, congratulate the other team when you don't. He can play for me any day of the week. I'll take 3 Sherman's in my secondary. One of my favorite Zips DBs used to have a similar demeanor in the NFL.

On a one yard slant?

I think it's an awful way to lose the game, but four posts up, I gave Malcolm the MVP. Malcolm could actually use the truck too. Gisele won't be seen in that big ugly red truck. Terrible idea making it red btw. I thought it was interesting that Malcolm was so filled with emotion that he couldn't even describe the play to an NBC reporter. I turned over to the NFL channel and caught another interview where he did describe recognizing the formation and saw RW3 look toward him before the snap. I was rooting for the Foot Locker worker, and former Cleveland Brown (until they cut him) to get the MVP. One day, around this time last year, his phone rings. It’s a Seahawks official, and they want Matthews to come to a tryout. Tonight. Matthews looks at watch, pauses, and says, “I don’t get off of work until 9 p.m. I don’t know if I’ll make it.” “Alright,” the caller said. “We’ll let you know.” Click. A few minutes later, Matthews agent calls. “What are you thinking! Get yourself home, pack up and go. Are you out of your mind?!” Matthews made the flight. Source. Way to stay classy Bevell OC, play caller Darrell Bevell: "We could have done a better job staying strong on the ball" Lockette breaking on final slant. I was surprised to read Marshawn Lynch's comment on the last play, when asked about it. Bud Shaw wrote a few funnies on the play call. He includes Dwight Clark's tweet "That was the dumbest play call in the HISTORY of NFL football." Bud also includes: One ESPN.com headline flatly stated "Pete Carroll Botches The Super Bowl." And included the following comment: Timothy Robinson · Top Commenter: I'm Rob Lowe and I have Direct TV. "I'm incredibly stupid Rob Lowe and I call a pass play when I have the most powerful running back in the NFL one yard away from winning the Super Bowl for me, and I have cable. (Hey, Pete. Don't be THIS Rob Lowe!)" Emitt Smith, among others, call it the worst playcall in the history of football.

You call a timeout there (after running the play clock to 1 second). Period. Biggest mistake. They would have NEVER called that play if they talked it over on the sidelines. The Hawks last playcall, come in late, and the players weren't even lined up properly. Get your head straight, and get your team on the same page. Call timeout, and set up two plays with options. Hawks win game over. Bad decision. I made this comment out loud as they were trying to get lined up, so an NFL coach should be in the same mindset. Hell, I might have called timeout just to enjoy the moment some more before I hoisted the trophy. Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell says the play call that may have ultimately cost his team the Super Bowl was made with the game clock in mind. The Seahawks had second-and-goal at the New England 1 with 26 seconds to go Sunday, but instead of giving the ball to Marshawn Lynch, Seattle ran a slant route intended for Ricardo Lockette that was intercepted by Malcolm Butler in the 28-24 loss to the New England Patriots. "We were conscious of how much time was on the clock and we wanted to use it all," Bevell said. "It didn't turn out the way I hoped it would. "Of course I can say now I wish we had done something different. There are 20 different things going through my mind that we can do. If you run it that doesn't mean you would score on that play." Source The worst call, was not giving Malcolm Butler the MVP. I know Brady is the media darling, but Butler made one of the biggest plays in SB history to SAVE Brady's third loss in a SB (all post Spygate, I don't count any victories before that, because he shouldn't even have been there). If Brady doesn't give that MVP truck to Butler, he is out of his mind.

Most sports fans that can't evaluate what they see on the playing field, place way too much "value" (as you write) on stats. My favorite to read in area papers is how (fill in any Browns QB since 99) first season's stats were similar to Troy Aikman's. In Troy's first year he went 1-15 with some awful QB rating. Then he went on to win multiple SB's and is in the HOF. So there you go, every Browns QB for the last two decades will do the same because their stats were similar to Troy's his first year. I haven't read it about Johnny Cocktail yet, but if you dig, I'm sure it's there, because lots of people in this area have STAV...that's the 'Statistical Troy Aikman Virus'™. The only cure is education and trusting your eyes. Good luck. Staying on topic, Manziel is headed to rehab.
