It befuddles my mind that someone at the U is not savvy enough to facilitate some kind of deal between The U, Nike, McDonald's, Coca-Cola and LBJ (possible Gilbert) to put some kind of deal together that benefits everyone. It might actually have to be something that has never been done before. Never mind, it doesn't surprise me at all. They need to hire someone with some real experience to make something like this happen. I'm not talking about a fake hire like Tressel. I real hire. Current status is better/easier at making excuses rather than finding a unique solution. I would hope President Scarborough has an eye on this and cleans some house. Until then, I just expect more excuses.

Josh Heupel, Jay Norvell fired at OU The Sooners won five of their first six but finished 8-5, ending the regular season with a stunning overtime loss to Oklahoma State and then losing 40-6 to Clemson in the Russell Athletic Bowl. The Sooners finished eighth in the Big 12 in passing offense with 2,543 yards and 17 touchdown passes. Inconsistent quarterback play and unreliable receivers were the main culprits (sounds familiar). Heupel also was the quarterbacks coach. Norvell was in charge of the receivers.

The 2015 Football Commitment List
Dr Z replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Great post Jrship. Thanks for taking the time. One of the biggest reasons unrated and 2 star players succeed in the NFL is due to weight training in college. There is some stat out there how top recruits like Clowney gained only minimal weight during their time in college, but a unranked NFL draft picks gains 40, 50...pounds. I've noticed how impressed you are with what is currently going on in that department. This provides me hope. -
I get a little Dambrot and Zips basketball feeling when I read about Mike Brown and the Bengals. One line in particular stood out.
-
Since I have only seen Akron play, I would only be blindly guessing, or just looking at useless stats. I'll come back and answer when I have watched, at the very least a few of these teams. Ellen has some guesses for you fickle Akron fans.

How much will a Zip fan be willing to pay for a ticket to see KD battle mighty Bluffton in the new renovated JAR? I thought with the plythera of riches JT raised we would be in the catbirds seat by now.
-
Incase anybody was wondering, scalped tickets were going for 280 a seat at lunchtime to yesterday's LBJ return to South Beach. I witnessed nothing but love for the King up and down Ocean boulevard during the game.

Obviously a 36 year old coach is the way to go. I would imagine he could get 30+ wins in the MAC. Embarrassing.
-
I don't know, I would need to see them play against Div I talent to have an opinion.

Per coach Bowden's end of the year presser, he doesn't want to hand it to him, he wants him to compete and win it. I liked that answer. I'm not getting too excited about a change in scheme untill I actually see it. The last time I got excited about a change in scheme JD told me he was going to run a defense like we never seen in the MAC. We all know how that turned out. But I am glad to hear that something is being done, from my evaluation, it was one of two things that needed addressed.

I agree, I'm just happy he is "looking in to it." I'm happy the answer is not, "we just didn't execute", I hate that answer from a coach. The word "spread" is commonly used to describe Gus Malzahn's teams, but that term can't accurately describe an entire offense. Usually, the word just means the quarterback is in shotgun and there are four wide receivers. But that's just a formation, and in Auburn's case, it's not even the most common one. Each week, Tiger fans see many formations: five wide, three backs, unbalanced lines and many others. Here is a good look at the 2013 offense, I'm not knowledgable enough about the 2014 Tigers offense to know if it basically stayed the same.

Get him in here to consult. #zfund4jd

True, some coaches make it pretty easy on their players by letting them put the little round ball through the hole. Some coaches try to prove how smart they are and confuse their team with a bunch of multiple offenses. Let's hope Richman confuses his team with a real complex system. David Richman was named the 23rd head men's basketball coach in North Dakota State University history on April 8, 2014. Richman, 36, was a Bison assistant coach for two seasons before being elevated to associate head coach under Saul Phillips for the 2007-08 season. Saul is now with the Bobcats. In the "experience" category, KD gets the check mark. ☐ Richman___vs___☑ Dambrot In the efficient shaving category, Richman fills the square. ☑ Richman___vs___ ☐Dambrot The Zips are underdogs to a first year 36 year old coach!?!? Ouch.

The 2015 Football Commitment List

Impossible for me to judge success from someones highlights film, but there are a few things I like about the film. He looks to have hand strength, he does a good job catching the ball away from his body. I also like that he seems more physical than our typical receiver, he doesn't shy away from contact, and doesn't go down with a mild breeze. He also looks to be familiar with our sideways offense...he can catch a bubble screen...sad. I wish I would have seen how he handles contact at the line, he won't run so free at Akron. -
Must have meant something.

The University of Akron men's basketball team will hold its Ninth-Annual Teddy Bear Toss during its home contest with Middle Tennessee tonight. Zips favored by seven.

Well written Marla. Good luck Tree. “I want to win big, but I want some peace of mind,” Dambrot, 56, said Thursday after a victory over Western Illinois. “I’m older and I deserve that. Ultimately, I get judged on that. I don’t want that reputation. That’s not the way I run my business.” “I’m almost refreshed. It’s almost like I’m completely cleansed,” Dambrot said. “I like our group. At the end of the year, we may not win as many games, maybe we will. But it’s almost like I feel I can do my thing now. Before, I felt a little handcuffed at times. [With] this group, I can be myself.”

New coach is going to have to bring his team to Infocision early September to play a hungry Zips team. Tough job. Will the highest paid assistant in the MAC shut them down again? 1. Chuck Amato, Akron – $199,0002. Tom Masella, Massachusetts – $194,0003. Jon Heacock, Toledo – $175,0004. Jay Niemann, Northern Illinois – $168,0005. Kevin Kelly, Ball State – $145,000 Not worth starting a new thread, but interesting information. SOURCE

Four of the "super six" transfers get mentioned at the 14 minute mark for those of you unaware. Bowden Indicates Pohl's Days are Numbered. by EA of the PD "There's always open competition, and at quarterback we will have competition,'' Bowden said. "Nobody dominated that position. It's as wide open as any other position."
