Odds are based on one game, at that particular time. Ken+ was favored to win at home against Toledo and did, no upset. Now in your mind, it may be, but of course in your mind Al Gore might be the 43rd president of the United States. NIU upset the Zips because Akron was favored. In my mind, with a 7 game road losing streak...eight seemed pretty likely. Nice time to check out the money line.

The 2015 Football Commitment List
Dr Z replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Which Michigan guy would interest you? -
Lack of intensity in my opinion. The Zips get lazy for long spurts. They play with intensity where they seem to move their feet and the ball, then they get lazy and give up on the offense and just chuck up threes. I'm not so sure that, they shouldn't make the three ball 90 percent of their offensive game plan, and just throw it inside when someone is WIDE open. Play outside in. I recall two times last night where they passed it inside, and it came back out. The most overused BS line in our offense is that we play "inside out." BS. Even at the beginning of the season I was impressed how the team was moving away from the ball and cutting to the hoop. The team has reverted to standing around. Maybe the bus fumes made everyone dizzy and sleepy. PS If my team is playing the Zips and I see 23 in the game, I'm getting the ball down low and going right at him. I also hustle the ball down the court when he is in and play 4 on 5 with quick passes cutting to the hoop.

Attendance: 957 Nine hundred and fifty-seven?!? From the looks on tv, there couldn't have been 200 people there. 35 had to be family. Mac basketball

GT let's Zip fans know when and where the game is.

If GP1 still read the board, maybe he would care now the way he didn't back in October. ..probably not though.

Zips favored by 4. Game on ESPN3. The Zips' have a seven-game road losing streak dating back to last season. Akron has hit eight or more 3-pointers in 14 games this season. The Zips are 11-3 when they make at least eight long balls in a contest. Bombs away.

Sad coincidence that I just wrote how underutilized he was last season, and how I would change that this year. Good luck to him. Listed 122nd at his position by CBS.

The question is, will they? Zach has been running through the middle for two years now. He mentioned to me once that most of the time he is running a route to clear out. IMO 2015 should feature Zach catching the ball, not clearing out. He needs to spend less time at the H F and Y, and more time at the Z. I think this would take more advantage of his skill set. Think of it this way, we use Zach too much like Wes Welker (less versatile/inside guy), we need to use him more like a Julian Edelman or an Antonio Brown (outside guys able to work both). In my offense last season, Zach would have averaged 11 targets a week. A third of the time, he would be my quarterbacks first read. I'm considering a dedicated thread to this topic (wr positions) after the spring game.

Thanks, I'm glad you started it. I considered doing this. I hope it works as well as the officiating thread has. Hopefully, this will increase/organize the quality/info/critics in the game threads. I'll try to move proper posts over to here when it seems appropriate.

Mike Mayock is on the NFL channel now talking about how excited he is to see another basketball player's skills (Quinten) transfer over to the NFL. The Detroit Free Press has a piece on him too: CB Quinten Rollins, Miami (Ohio): Rollins played four years of basketball before starring for the RedHawks in football last year. He's raw but has enormous upside and, at 6 feet and 203 pounds, he has ideal NFL size. The Mid-American Conference defensive player of the year, Rollins had seven interceptions and 16 passes defended. His stock could soar if he makes strides in his technique and play this week and throughout his draft prep.

Two Mac players on senior bowl roster this week. Casey Pierce (TE), Ken+ State, Quinten Rollins (CB), Miami (Ohio). Pat Kirwan is in Mobile Alabama and will be reporting all week long from 3-7 on NFL radio. I know a lot of Browns fans are skewed on Phil Savage, but give a listen to him this week, as I'm sure he will be a guest multiple times. Let me know if he doesn't amaze you with his knowledge. I guarantee you will be smarter for listening to him. Game 3 pm on Saturday. PS Lots of Mac impact in the NFL championship games yesterday.

Let's see, if a Tree falls in Jeremiah Wood...hmmmm, no. If a Tree falls in Argentina, can Jere...aaahhhhh, no. It's there somewhere, I just can't get it.

I have no idea (and don't care) where the media parks, but I have seen Frenchy, GT and EA walk past our tailgating area in Lot 9 many times. I'm assuming they are parking in Lot 9.

Agreed. The success of the Zips season depends on the play of the QB (obvious). This is what I wrote in 2013 about Pohl, he has done nothing on the field to change my game day evaluation since then. I've stated this many times here, but it is my opinion that he needs to put more time away from the game to excel on the field. I believe he has the physical tools to do so, but he needs to be quicker, and better, at his decisions on the field. That is a comfort issue. Keep in mind, my opinion is only based on what I see on game day. I attend most home games, and a few away games a year. I am not at practice (other than the spring game), I am not in any meetings, and I'm not repeating what some guy that works for the University is relaying to me. It's just my opinion. If he is giving a Charlie Frye-like (playbook study monster) effort off the field, then it might be time to try something else. If he isn't, he needs to be doing so. I was at the game, and it will go down as one of my top 5 Zips football moments thus far. As of last year, I didn't see Woodson as our answer, but before the Pitt game, from the play on the field, I saw the same as coach Bowden, and I would have sat KP16 at the exact time as he did. We will have to agree to disagree on that move. The one thing I will mention about the Pitt game, is the same as I did after the game, it was one of the few games AJ mixed the run and pass well. Hundley and the offensive line were awesome that day. It is imperative that the Zips improve the offensive game planning, and play calling next year, whomever is taking snaps. From some of coach Bowden's post season comments, I think he is aware. I'm dying to know what he is going to do about it.

I would be willing to bet some Columbus football fan started a thread like this somewhere in September 2014.

Seems like a pretty good one. BTW, the Pitt game you mention, I think I remember somebody getting benched in that game after a red zone INT.

Like I said, I read that this morning, I didn't calculate it While I love my Zips, I'm not willing to manually put together a stat like that. Not my passion. If I ever run across it, I'll post. I would guess it's not far off the original 129-137 stat since the majority of games belong to Dambrot.
-
Interesting stat I learned today: Since 1997 the Zips are 129-137 when playing against a team with a winning record. Thanks for the info. Unfortunately your probably correct.

I didn't realize Duquense played at Consol Energy Center. Been there a few times. Great venue. Great area. The Zips should jump on the opportunity to schedule there. Game is on CBS sports network (channel 221) if anyone is interested in watching. Duquesne is a fourteen point underdog.

Former Zip Shawn Lemon about to sign NFL contract. Listed at six-feet-two and 250 pounds, Lemon almost certainly will line up as an outside linebacker rather than a defensive end. Lemon racked up 13 sacks and forced eight fumbles in 2014 for the Stampeders, the latter of which was a CFL record. Still only 26-years old, Lemon is still a young player with room to grow. Although Lemon bounced around the Arena League and the CFL, playing for a total of six teams in his short career, Mitchell reported as many as 14 teams were interested in Lemon's services, indicating his game tape was worth a shot. His strip-sacks remind me of another NFL MAC outside linebacker. @SLemonator

Zips favored by 5. Through the KD years, if you ignore the matchup and just look at the spread, this is his wheelhouse game. Chips are atop most offensive categories except rebounding, they are near the bottom of all defensive categories. Pound the boards and win. You could say the Zips are committed as well, since they have attempted more threes than the Chips. The Chips are more efficient.
