  1. Beyonce and JZ (at the Euclid Starbucks), Timberlake, Usher, Kendrick, and Kevin Hart are all rumored to be here. I even heard Johnny Cocktail might show. East 4th looked good on ESPN at lunchtime. No Zips signs though. Seems like easy marketing for a limited budget. Pay two students to hold up an "Akron Loves LBJ--Go Zips" sign. I know, somebody left, or no budget, or too much else going on excuses to follow... Seems like they'll let any tool in, Bieber was spotted too. Photos by Fong, of the new banner. 10-story, 25,000 square feet, 1.3 ton display. 190 gallons of ink was used to print the 4 color banner Fusion Imaging printed it. Ranks in the top 10 banners in the world for size. A special pallet was built to house the banner for it’s ride from Salt Lake City to Cleveland – 1,785 miles over 36 hours It took 15 people just to fold and move the banner. New Nike commercial:
  2. If you watch the video, this is the rule the reporter refers to at the end of the report. Check out what follows "Once a student-athlete has returned to his/her baseline" under the Return to Play section. I was considering posting this yesterday, but this topic has become such a pi$$ing match here, that most logic has expired. I only did so today, because of Johnny's topic. I'm sure this will erode quickly.
  3. Take your Zips sign for SportsCenter.
  4. One can only hope. The Zips have to get better play at the position if they plan on competing in the tourney. Seems like only yesterday that we were informed that he "stepped up his game to meet the challenge" Good luck Carmelo.
  5. Platinum-selling rock band Imagine Dragons will perform during a pregame concert outside of The Q for tomorrow's big event. Some seats for LeBron James' return are going for five figures on Stub Hub. Usher and Kendrick Lamar will be there, while there are rumors Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z and Beyonce might join them. Anyone want to guess what tv share Cleveland will pull tomorrow night?
  6. Just want to let people know, I know a guy that claims he got The Moon "virus" from firstrow. I'm sure most of you did not change the default settings on your router, but for those at did.... Here is some information. Linksys is aware of the malware called “The Moon” that has affected select older Linksys E-Series routers and select older Wireless-N access points and routers. The exploit to bypass the admin authentication used by the worm only works when the Remote Management Access feature is enabled. Linksys ships these products with the Remote Management Access feature turned off by default. Customers who have not enabled the Remote Management Access feature are not susceptible to this specific malware.
  7. UPDATE ON THE DOG BONE The Zips’ other challenge involves their big men. Isaiah Johnson recently had the cast removed that set his right wrist. Johnson, a sophomore, broke his navicular bone. Although that cast is off, Dambrot said Johnson isn’t completely healed. “He is able to run now which is a good thing,” Dambrot said, “so we can get him in better shape. We feel like if we can get this guy in condition we have a special player. We haven’t quite been able to do that yet, but his attitude and desire to become a really good player has really been terrific.” Although Dambrot hopes Johnson will be ready for the regular season, he expects junior Pat Forsythe can come in and fulfill his potential at center. Sophomore forward Kwan Cheatham Jr. has also been getting work in that area. Source
  8. Here is my response/critique to the use of Zach in the BG thread. DIG posted what he called a "semi-official" report on Pohl's status yesterday.
  9. The excitement is back. In an effort to extend fan engagement beyond the 4 walls of The Q, the Cavaliers are partnering with 40 local bars and restaurants to hold “Official Watch Parties” throughout Cleveland! Between 6:00 - 9:30 PM, our Official Watch Party Squad will interact with bar & restaurant patrons at each location with fun, fan-engaging contesting, giveaways and more! In addition to the giveaways, they will also have 100 of our official “Opening Night” t-shirts to distribute—the very same shirt that fans attending the game at The Q will receive! This effort is generously supported by Hennessy, Belvedere and Grand Marnier! Join us and unite with other Wine & Gold Fans as we’re #AllForCLE! All the locations.
  10. I hope this week mainly consists of the Zips offense practicing how to beat zone coverage. Use the 20 yard hole on the sideline. Run hard sharp curls. Use D'orazio to catch the ball instead of clearing. Use motion. If we practice that, we can win. If the Zips run the same plays as the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarter like last week against the zone...it won't matter if Hoyer is the QB. Any receiver that runs a curl Tuesday and doesn't come back to the ball should be benched immediately. Effective running plays can help dictate the coverage also. See Pitt game.
  11. Who writes the script?
  12. I like the little videos at the end of the commercial. Well done.
  13. If they ever have AJ Milwee on the show, somebody please let me know. I would be interested to hear him speak. I have heard very little from him. Here is AJ talking about Tommy Woodson in 2013:
  14. Marla Ridenour of the BJ writes: When Bob Huggins hired Dan Peters as his assistant at Walsh University in 1981, Huggins found a best friend. “Pete was one of the greatest people ever in the history of our business,” Huggins said in a statement. “Pete was my best friend and confidant from the time we were in our early 20s. I bounced everything off of Pete knowing I would get an honest and intelligent response. I loved the guy like a brother.” Plain Dealer article. "A real tough deal,'' Huggins said following an afternoon practice session with the Mountaineers. "I saw him Sunday, and we had luch about three weeks ago. He was talking about me sending him film (to break down). He was really looking forward to it." Coaches for Cancer, a yearly showcase between YSU, Akron, Can't and Cleveland State was to get off the ground for this season, but schedules for all teams could not be blended. It is expected this showcase will begin next season, in honor of Peters, and rotate annually among the four schools as part of the annual tip-off to the season. CBS Sports article. 17. But evaluating their play is not. The D was far from perfect Saturday. They allowed 380 yards on a well balanced attack. The BSU offense line won a lot of battles on early downs. Ball State's offensive coordinator kept their young quarterback in winnable down and distance situations most of the afternoon. Jahwan Edwards was the real deal, and the most effective I have seen a running back against our defense. I'm sure coach Amato's game plan was focused on stopping him and putting a young QB in tough situations. We did not stop him enough. The QB could have called off-tackle right at the line, and Edwards was going to get five yards most of the time...except for the hit CJ put on him, that was awesome. Anyone have video of that hit? I can't explain why our defense can't cover a back catching the ball out of the backfield. Way too many first downs given up on that on play Saturday. I think BSU did a good job taking advantage of Cody's aggressive play on run downs. Best I have seen him blocked. He seemed to draw a lot of attention. Good game plan by them. When our defense was able to get them in third an obvious passing downs, we brought the pressure and disrupted their QB. Difference was he didn't make any big mistakes...well one, but we couldn't seem to take advantage of that either. Our D has done a great job this year of creating turnovers, but that didn't take place Saturday either.
  18. I hope so, I miss discussing and reading about Zips football.
  19. I can't understand how a QB can look so good against man coverage, and so bad against the zone? Those first three touchdown drives were things of beauty. The ball was coming out on time and being delivered with precision. Once the Cardinals switched to the zone, the ball seemed to be thrown directly into the middle of the zone. No work on the sidelines. Hard to see on tv, if the play calling was making that an option. If it was not, that was a major mistake. We should have been picking the zone apart underneath. The play calling didn't seem to change when the defense changed. Again, hard to see if that was was what was going on watching on tv. I think if TW wants to do something to benefit his game in the offseason, it might be to drop a few pounds. His game could benefit by being quicker with this feet. He seems to really struggle creating a spot to throw after the pocket breaks down. I wish we could have connected on one of the over the top plays. If KP was available, which it seemed like he was since I saw him dressed and standing next to coach in sideline huddles, he should have been brought in for a series in the third quarter. The field position the Zips were handing them in the second half was ridiculous. Edwards is the real deal, most effective I have seen a running back against our defense. The QB could have called off-tackle right at the line, and Edwards was going to get five yards most of the time...except for the hit CJ put on him, that was awesome. I can't explain why our defense can't cover a back catching the ball out of the backfield. Way too many first downs given up on that on play. I think BSU did a good job taking advantage of Cody's aggressive play on run downs. Best I have seen him blocked. He seemed to draw a lot of attention. When the defense got them in third an obvious passing downs, we brought the pressure and disrupted their QB. Difference was he didn't make any big mistakes...well one, but we couldn't seem to take advantage of that either. Sloppy day, punt fumbles, blocked punts, bad snaps, penalties, turnovers...all adding up to a second half disaster. One of the things I hate about our run and shoot offense is the fact when we take a 21-6 lead, we can't ball control and minimize the other teams offensive chances. We are forced to keep scoring unless our defense plays shut down. Should be some interesting practices coming up before the BG game. Some major time should be given to getting the snap to the quarterback somewhere around his hands. Terrible snaps yesterday threw off the timing of multiple plays in the second half. I didn't turn Frenchy on yesterday since the tv announcers were not annoying. I'm kind of curious what his overall opinions were in the second half. PS It sure would have been an awesome weather day for a home game yesterday.
  20. Lots of unintelligent posting going on right now. I'll come back tomorrow and see if its worth typing my thoughts.
  21. So this is what the offense looks like when the ball is delivered on time. Nice.
  22. Dri lost his job after ranking dead last in the NFL in kick returns. Dri Archer has the worst kick-return average among any return man with nine or more opportunities. At 17.9 yards per return, he's more than three yards behind the second-worst returner.
  23. I'll venture to guess the answer is evaluation and progression. I think the staff envisions more out of the position. I see the same when I watched plays at those games. Too many missed plays. You would see them too if you were able to attend those 11 games. Even you thought that he should improve this year. I'm glad the staff holds players to high expectations. It reminds me a little of Pete Carroll's "compete philosophy." PS I am not comparing the two coaches. As far as I know coach Bowden has never helped fake a players jump to the death. I agree with just about everything g-mann writes above. I hate blaming a game on one play, but I'll say the same thing Bowden said this week, that Pratt fumble was a killer. He holds on to the ball, and we could be having a lot different debates this week.
  24. Thanks for posting. Coach Bowden is a media pro, the other guy is not.
