  1. We run 10, and 11 as our base. we run some 12, but not enough. Once in a while we line up with 01 personnel, but not often enough to even mention. I've covered this multiple times over the course of the season. We need a talent upgrade at the offensive skill positions in the worst way if we are going to continue on this personnel path.
  2. Warning: language in video not safe for work. For those of you that are bothered by some things ESPN does. This piece that Daniel Tosh did, WILL amuse you. Chris Berman (tool bag) is my favorite part. Bleacher Report picked up the story. Huffington Post writes Tosh Rips Into ESPN. According to TMZ, ESPN is not backing down.
  3. One back spread. Lock on incomplete pass behind the receiver.
  4. Is two years running it enough of a setup? If not, how many years do we have to unsuccessfully run it before we can fake it?
  5. For the love of gawd, the Steelers have the best WR in the league and a top QB, and the stupid play resulted in a turnover against the lowly Jets. It's a stupid play that I can't wait until the NFL adapts out. T minus whenever and counting...
  6. Only way that stupid play is halfway decent, is if you fake it, and get one on one coverage, or no coverage on the receiver next to the WR faking. This works because EVERY defense is aware of this dumb play. BUT (and this is a big one) you have to actually block people, the QB has to pump fake the short throw, then make an accurate throw with the football down field (wild concept). Then the receiver actually has to catch it. On top of that, you would need to call the play at the proper time and place on the field. I think it's asking way to much for our struggling offense. Just throw an incomplete pass over someones head on first down, run the ball into the back of the offensive line on second down, and throw at someones feet on third down. Hope the other team muffs the punt, and kick the field goal. That's what we are good at.
  7. Listen online on 1350. You can also listen on iheart.com. Type in WAKR.
  8. Did you see the stands in Buffalo? The empty stadium seemed to motivate UB.
  9. You are correct, but if we continue to run this "offense", I think we need multiple guys with his ability. He was recruited for the 'Y' position, a tight end/wide receiver hybrid.
  10. If you make it to HH, and like wings, try this place.
  11. Good points UA87. One I would add to your list would be MTB. He seems to be the only "down field" threat we have. What is his injury? The lack of offensive game planning, and the play calling just can't be ignored anymore. I actually saw our other receiver knock a ball down after he didn't catch it. That was special.
  12. Still think it was Anthone Taylor that got the coach fired? I saw a hard runner with a low pad level that keeps his legs moving and doesn't give up on any plays. 32 attempts last night. That's a grinder I would take on my team. BTW, He is 13th in the nation in rushing yards now.
  13. You should go to practices, that's where everyone shines.
  14. I blame this thread. Worst topic ever. The Buffalo Bulls, NOT THE BUFFALO BILLS, rolled up 536 yards on offense with 310 coming in the running game as UB running back Anthone Taylor racked up 178 yards. Taylor had close to 100 by the half. Even his backup Jordan Johnson got into the act, crossing the century mark with 104 yards rushing.
  15. AJ calls the run up the middle on 2nd down following an incomplete pass on 1st down like we get 7 points for doing it!?!?!?
  16. I agree. I would love to see an article in the Akron paper about coach Milwee and the state, and philosophy of the offense. He is one of the youngest coordinators in college football, coach Bowden believes in him, show us fans why we should. Where does he see the future of this offense going? Is he happy with what is going on? Give me some inside offensive information on one of the Zips biggest upsets (@Pitt) in Akron history. What's going right, where does he feel he can improve? What recruits is he most excited about for next season? I wish it was the Zips local reporter's passion, but he seems too busy. He needs some help from someone who is passionate about the team. Personally, I think someone in UA marketing should be addressing the situation. They need to work together, because whats going on is pretty disappointing. If someone is not seeking out good topics you need to spoon-feed them. It's sad, but true. Most publications are looking for information, and will be happy when good stuff is provided. If you are providing good information and it's not getting printed, that's a bigger issue.
  17. NR14 had better learn how to effectively get through a simple pick play, or I see a lot of open looks for the Zips opponents. The team I watched last night does not have the look of an NCAA tourney team so many ZN members are picking. I liked some of the ball movement I saw, now we just need someone hit a shot.
  18. That article was written yesterday afternoon. I checked the Buffalo weather yesterday too. He was correct, it was calling for miserable weather. The forecast changed. You'll see that a lot when fronts are moving into an area. I think it plays to our advantage. See last week.
  19. EA writes about the game tonight...and makes a lot of the same observations some of us have been writing about. The season-long question is why the Zips practically refuse to run, even with a pair of veteran tailbacks in senior Jawon Chisholm and junior Conor Hundley. Akron is averaging just 121.6 rushing yards, but Chisholm is averaging 5.0 yards per carry (388 yards, 4 TD) and Hundley is at 5.6 (455 yards, 3 TD). In Akron's 27-10 loss to Bowling Green last week, the Zips paid the price for throwing the football too much. Meanwhile, the Falcons dialed down their passing game in the inclement weather and had two players rush for over 100 yards each instead. For the second straight week the Zips will have to face tough weather conditions. Temperatures are expected to drop near freezing by game time with the possibility of snow. Last week the Zips faced high winds and rain, and combined with their turnovers led to defeat. The miscues have come in just about every form, led by interceptions by a pair of quarterbacks, incumbent starter Kyle Pohl and backup Thomas Woodson. But blocked punts, blocked field goals, fumbled punts, fumbled receptions and fumbled center snaps have all come into play as well. Get it together guys! Tighten up the offensive game plan, and stop turning the ball over. Offensive line, start pushing some people around! This is the type of weather you will continue to see while you play football in the MAC. This is the time of year we need to perform our best in order to win the conference. __________________Defense, seek, and destroy!!!! Be warned secondary, you will see play action, and pump fakes...... Man, wouldn't that be nice. EDIT: Looks like the weather will be fine to me??? ...56 and partly cloudy.
  20. The official basketball has started post.
  21. Starting for the Zips: Robotham, Gladden, Kretzer, Treadwell and Forsythe source:@ZipsMBB
  22. There are many answers, but I'll guess according to the article you read on gozips.com it's "only eight basketball programs with at least 21-plus wins in each of the last eight seasons"
  23. Sidearm sports is streaming the Akron vs Rochester game tonight.
  24. I can't predict this team. Too inconsistent. The Zips defense needs to do a better job than we did up front against BG and Ball State. They need to stop Anthony Taylor. UB goes as he goes. UB's defense gives up tons of points, so hopefully our offense is sharp. I hope I'm wrong, but I have a pretty good idea what plays our offense will run. Hopefully the forecast changes, right now it looks like there is a 50 percent chance of rain tomorrow evening in Buffalo. Seems like great weather for some more run and shoot (yourself in the foot). Personally, I would like to see the 12 personnel package run more tomorrow. We ran it successfully on occasion in the beginning of the season, but seemed to go away from it after our bye week. I think it fits our talent better. Not perfectly, just better.
  25. On target coach!!! Film study. Adjust. Focus. Bring it. Bowden is putting the onus for this one on his coaching staff. “We have to make very, very sure that we’re making good decisions,” he said. “We coaches have to make sure we’re doing a good job of not putting our players in situations where there’s too much pressure to make a mistake or do something that they don’t need to be doing at that time.” Source
