Mac football is comparable, basketball is NOT! Has there been a Mac player drafted in the NBA in the last decade? It's no coincidence, Mac basketball is no where near what it used to be in the 90's. It's been a one bid league stuck with a crummy seed for that same amount of time. Plenty of top quality players throughout the league in football. Obviously, the league was better with Central Florida and Marshall in the league though.

Bring in 'Trader Ray' to trade the pick away. If it's fixed, the NBA must really feel sorry for Cleveland and the LBJ debacle. Would LBJ consider this team (after they draft Parker or Wiggins) talented enough to bring his talents back? With LBJ and Johnny football in the same city, Cleveland could become Marketland. At the very least this makes the coaching job attractive. I would redial Izzo's number one more time.

Per Cleveland quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains, a text Johnny Football sent results in him getting picked in the first round!?!?! Jerry Jones Haslam said, 'Pull the trigger. We're trading up to go get this guy.'" I have yet to see the movie Draft Day, but I can't believe it's as good as this. If Haslam can pull off the HBO Hard Knocks deal, no owner will have had a better marketing year. He is going to make back his millions he stole in fuel rebates quick! Per the linked article, I didn't realize it's still possible he gets convicted, I thought he was in the clear? Edit: I just watched the movie Draft Day, wait until it comes out on cable. Very predictable. I was right, the real Browns drama on this years draft day was much more entertaining.

I would bet this transfer hasn't been at the Dambrot Thanksgiving dinner table for awhile. -

I've actually heard of a situation in college basketball where a player is "encouraged" to find another fit for him. I agree, sup GT, is there a comic book convention in town? -
Oprah Winfrey Network to produce Michael Sam documentary The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) announced Wednesday that it would create a multi-part documentary series on Sam and "his historic journey as he prepares to enter the biggest professional sports league in America." It's an untitled project, but the network is working with Emmy-winning producer Craig Piligian and Emmy-nominated filmmaker Amy Rice. In the news release, OWN says its cameras will follow Sam, but it's unclear how much locker room/practice field access the network will get from the NFL.

Thanks, I like the photo in that link. I wonder if his helmet derives from the technology that Harrison was the first to start wearing in 2012? Does Dri look a little like this guy? Dri will wear #34 for a jersey number. Edit: he was #13 in his first preseason game.

Well that helps a little bit. Actions will speak louder than words. Good luck to him. -
If I could make it to the golf outing this year (will miss it), and if I was concerned with coach moving on to WV. I would pose this question to him; "coach if the WV job become available, would you entertain the thought of possible interviewing?" I would guess he would give an honest answer.

PITTSBURGH -- Can't State coach Paul Haynes and Northern Illinois coach Rod Carey shared a memory -- and a laugh -- recently when they recalled Dri Archer's 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown last season in a game between the Mid-American Conference rivals. "Dri went down his sideline and (Carey) said he was going so fast and he was just thinking, ‘We are so stupid for kicking to this guy,' " Haynes said. "They were the only team that kicked deep to us. Everybody else pooched." That anecdote neatly distills why the Pittsburgh Steelers were enamored enough with Archer’s breathtaking speed and big-play ability to draft him in the third round -- yet also why taking him that high might be a luxury they couldn't afford after consecutive 8-8 seasons. AP Photo/G.M. AndrewsThe Steelers hope Can't State's Dri Archer can cause matchup problems for opposing defenses.Archer already had been compared with former great kick returners such as Mel Gray and Gerald "Ice Cube" McNeil, and that is just in the Steelers' building. But with kickers able to boom the ball out of the end zone with regularity since kickoffs were moved to the 35-yard line, how much of a weapon will Archer be if teams simply decide to play keep away from him?

Nice idea. I like to see the amount I have spent. 10 more points and I'm eligible for a free appetizer before 5 pm, not on weekends though.

The Browns reportedly spent $100,000 on an analytic study of all of this year's draftable quarterbacks, and it came back with Teddy Brigewater's, and not Manziel's, name at the top. Kirk Cousins almost joined Johnny football. According CBS Sports insider Jason La Canfora, general manager Ray Farmer offered a fourth-round pick to the Washington Redskins in exchange for Kirk Cousins after drafting Johnny football.

What a swell fellow.

The Vikings had Teddy and Johnny football ranked evenly but both were a stretch with the 8th pick. Teddy confesses that he didn't want to be drafted by the Browns. While not as intriguing as an owner changing a teams pick for a first round QB at the last minute, here is some more intrigue. The Browns took the Steelers guy they were targeting at 15, and the Steelers took the Cowboys pick that they were targeting at 16. A little off topic...How Accurate are NFL Mock drafts. I have read people complain about Bleacher Report, but it sure seems like their NFL draft lead writer seems to have an idea of what's going on.

The NFL is not forcing people to wear Sam's jersey. Apparently lots of people are paying money because they want to wear the jersey. His popularity has little to do with his draft position. I'm not seeing the hubbub. You can create just about any name on a team jersey. Just not Ron Mexico. Tons of people bought Tim Couch jerseys, now that is the real travesty.

Tony Grossi reports that one team wanted to take Teddy Bridgewater, but something changed their mind, and they went with Johnny football. Hard to make this stuff up, they should make a movie about it. I can't remember, does art imitating life, or life imitating art? "A source told me that the card prepared to be given to Commissioner Roger Goodell for the official announcement in Radio City Music Hall originally had Bridgewater’s name on it. Then with 10 seconds to go, a new card replaced it with the name of Johnny Manziel, as a result of owner Jimmy Haslam’s order." --Tony Grossi

Put me down as thinking it won't be as big of a deal as some think. If he's one of the best 53 in camp, he'll make the team, if not, he won't. Plain and simple. From the very little highlights I have seen of him, he seems to struggle in coverage. GP1 is right, he can make the team playing good special teams. He seems like he is a good tackler, good pass rusher, and has good instincts. Might get to see him in sub packages. I'm rooting for him.

Word is, there are tons of orders for the Sam jersey right now. While a good story, I'm not sure the Desir jersey would sell so good (right now). Most decisions made by the NFL have to do with the money, this is no different. @RattoCSN: “Give them 15 minutes. The NFL can hear a dollar bill hitting a down pillow.” A native of Haiti, the 23-year-old Desir came to the United States at age four. He didn't start playing football until his freshman year in high school. After a strong senior season at Division II Lindenwood, Desir appeared in the East-West Shrine Game and Senior Bowl.

BTSC does a nice job of explaining the potential of Dri in Haley's offense. Just as the writer, I worry about his durability. Everybody knows about his 40 time, but I remember at the combine he put up some impressive benching numbers, so the dude is "strong." Stronger than Carlos Hyde! I was impressed with his route running skills despite a bum ankle in the game he played against the Zips last year.

Your welcome, I have been saying the same thing as your story reads, James makes sense, in Youngstown. It's a great place for him.

Looks like some Steeler fans nailed the Dri Archer pick back in March. Will be interesting if he is healthy, and how Haley uses him. The Steelers are going to try out the "super hero" returning kicks. The Steelers didn't stop with one Mac player, they also drafted UMass TE Rob Blanchflower. Trent Baalke Scouted Ward at MAC Title Game Keith Wenning gets drafted by the Ravens while Jordan Lynch doesn't get drafted, but signs with Bears. This super scout was more impressed by Wenning back when everybody was on the Lynch bandwagon last year. Jonathan Newsom was selected by the Colts. Willie Snead signs with the Browns. This is a good spot for him IMO. I liked him a lot when the Zips played him. He was consistently open all day. The Mac had eight players selected. Another 21 players signed as free agents with teams..so far. Make that 22 including the Zips Pughsley to the Dallas Cowboys.

Eguins posted those times on Tuesday. That's just James being James. He'll find a lot of "donors" in Youngstown, I'm sure he'll do well, until he doesn't. Time to move on.
