I contemplated putting this in the beer thread, but I went there to eat, and thought it was kind of unique, so I'll put it here. I'm ignorant to the authenticity of German food, so maybe others can give their opinion. I went with a group to Der Braumeister this weekend. I thought the food was really good, and the taps were awesome. Of course Weihenstephaner is awesome, so start with that. I also enjoyed the Primator Weizenbier, the Breckenridge Ophelia, Pauwel Kwak, and finished with the Kasteel Winter. I didn't care for the Ayinger Jahrhundert, and I like Ayinger beers. Not a very modern interior design, and not in the best part of town, but if you like German food and German beer (who doesn't), it's worth the trip. For what it's worth, ten people went and tried almost everything on the menu, everybody was happy. I thought the spaetzle was great, but it was my first. I would be interested to hear if anybody else has eaten there? Edit: Recently spoke with a few German guys I work with. "Is it authentic?", "What's really authentic, yeah, it's good." Both commented about the neighborhood being less than stellar too.

Best Zips Team in Program History? (DI Only)
Dr Z replied to UAZip0510's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I'd like to see the 99-00 team play in today's MAC. Or at the very least, let them shoot our free throws. -
Getting back on topic, I heard a scout speaking good things about Alex Neutz this weekend. Drafttek is listing 11 players being drafted from the MAC. In order, Khalil Mack, Jimmie Ward, Keith Wenning, Zac Kerin, Zac Murphy, Alex Neutz, Ken Bishop, David Fluellen, Colby Way, Jordan Lynch and Willie Snead. Wenning drafted before Lynch? This guy was more impressed by Wenning than Lynch when both played the Zips.

Not true, a representative from a search firm for college coaches placed a call to him. “So the guy says, ‘I’m calling on behalf of the University of Akron. Would you be interested in the job?’”Bowden leans back in his chair. He told me he’d had his eye on the Akron job for several years, though it is an odd job for anyone to covet: Before the school chased Bowden, they went after a former Zips player and assistant coach named Paul Winters, who led Wayne State to the Division II national championship game last season. And Winters chose to stay at Wayne State instead. Only then, Bowden says, did he get the phone call from the search firm. “So I tell him, ‘Yes, I’m interested,’” he says. “And the guy goes, ‘Really?’”

Well written, he could have quoted me in this article. Sometimes the truth (MAC Basketball Has A Problem: It's Not Very Good) hurts, ignoring it, doesn't fix it. Fix it.

You must be watching all the coaches interviews after the NCAA tournament games. Taken from page 1 of the coaches book entitled 'Take That You Annoying Reporter.' One of my new favorites is "Next guy up." I'm sure Tomlin didn't invent it, but first time I noticed was 2007 pressers. Next one is "the standard is the standard." Thanks coach. The staff needs to get the team to learn how to move the ball to move the defense to get better looks. 95 percent of the Zips passes this year did not effect the defense one iota. Players without the ball need to help effect what the defense is doing too. This becomes obvious watching good offensive teams in the tournament. We will see less 8 minute droughts if we can improve in this area. We will probably get to the line more too, so you might want improve free throw percentage while your at it. We will also be less dependent on the three ball. This doesn't mean we can't still bomb, just do it effectively, not desperately. If the offense needs "dumbed" down to achieve this, do it already. Stop pounding the square peg...

Thanks for posting. Soon I'll write a how to upload your image to the gallery and post.

Anytime. Thanks for posting it. Exciting....in March no less. I would not trust that this photo is properly white balanced. Properly lighting a reflective surface (the gold) can be tricky. There looks to be some post processing done (phone app). The logo could very well be something other than black. If you take some quick color readings (considering the quality of the image), parts of the logo measure the same as the dark spots on the face mask, so it could very well be dark blue. That being said, I'm happy to see a quick photo, rather than no photo. I would bet the players are excited about this. Increasing the exposure on just the "Z" show hints that there could possible be some cyan (blue) in there. Again, realize due to the image, I'm dealing with very few pixels, so what you see is by no means accurate...but it might be close.

Thanks B&G, from your above link. I would still like to see a version with the zipper again. I thought it was unique. Rendered different than last time. One color, same as the Z. Harder edges.

Nice article. Who could argue the following statement? "This year's East sleeper is likely Akron, which has grown from one win in coach Terry Bowden's debut to 5-7 a year ago. The next logical step, of course, is a push to postseason eligibility. Easier said than done."

Capacity is 30,000, official sellout is 27,881. The grass hill seats 3,000. Here is a list of stadiums 30,000 or more. Nobody has convinced me that the MAC isn't where the Zips belong. A Zips fan listing to a hired employee telling them that they are moving, is not really "proof," just someone with some job goals. I have heard "think bigger than the MAC" for more than a decade from a few employees. Doesn't make it fact. Doesn't make it wrong to have those ambitions either. It's also excites some fans, and some donors. I have no issue with the MAC in football. Competitive games, NFL players, bowl games, first round picks, super bowl winners, entertaining product (for the most part). I write it all the time, but I wish CFU and Marshall were still part of the MAC because they made it better. Basketball on the other hand seems to be going the other way in the MAC. Games aren't as entertaining, no NBA players anymore, no more two bids into the NCAA tournament anymore, no chance for a 14 seed to get past round one anymore, weak competition. I would hope that changes...one way or another.

Smart has taken his name out of consideration for other potential gigs and will stay with VCU following rumors that he could leave VCU for Marquette. ESPN's Adam Finkelstein was first to report a synopsis of Smart discussing his future. Adam Finkelstein @AdamFinkelsteinShaka Smart spoke to VCU commits & their coaches yesterday & assured them he isn't going anywhere 9:13 AM - 25 Mar 2014

Right on.

That doesn't look like a schedule a senior citizen should endeavor.

I would hope the eventual hire will have no cons.

Your not that far off. I love the NFL, but change is needed. On Mondays and Thursdays I DVR games and start watching an hour after the game starts. Commercials solved. I also fast forward kickoffs, extra points, and punts...Zzzzzzzzz. On Sundays I watch the games on a four TV system, you would be shocked at how many times all four TVs are on commercial.

Post game interview with Roy Williams “Let's not anybody lay it on the officials or anything like that. We didn't call the timeout with 1.6 seconds to play. The referee said that the clock operator started the clock late and they didn't recognize my calling the timeout, and then when they did recognize calling the timeout and went to the monitor, they realize the clock operator had started the clock late so there should not have been any time left when they did make the observation that we were calling timeout. So let's not lay this on the officials, and that's what my kids are saying. It's very difficult, but nobody's blaming the officials.”

Speaking of the Sweet 16, did anybody happen to catch this piece Sunday morning? "Outside the Lines" tells the story of former coach Kevin Mackey, who took Cleveland State to the Sweet 16 for the first time before addiction led to his banishment from the top echelons of basketball for more than a decade. He is currently working for Larry Bird as a scout, and sounds like he wants to coach again. Somewhere like Cleveland State.

Like Dave wrote, thread and discussion already started here at the end of the game last night. Feel free to express your opinion.

One of the best predictors of the future is past behavior. "Act Boldly," I like it.

Interesting choice on the format Gutenberg.
