  1. IMO this game will come down to the effectiveness of the Zips limiting a Broncos running game that is averaging 237 yards per game. I'm hoping that the continual progression of Zips passing game makes for some big rushing plays. If you feel good about the Zips this week, you can get 5:1 odds. Scattered thunderstorms and winds 5-10 MPH ??
  2. I heard Woodson say, I just missed, no excuses, when asked about his overthrows. But I keep hearing coach Bowden talk about wind. He said it again in yesterday's presser. So I'm assuming the wind was blowing toward the scoreboard, since both TD passes were that way?
  3. Discuss your answers below.
  4. Anybody see the TB Show last week? They interviewed Thomas, AJ and Tra'Von about the QB position and how Thomas plays it. All claimed how well Thomas knew AJ's playbook and what AJ wanted to accomplish. AJ claimed that Thomas knew what he was thinking sometimes before he said it. I would be interested to see what happen if the offense went "hurry up" a series or two where Thomas called the plays. PS This idea would have been way better with MTB in the mix, so he could change personnel without substituting, depending on the defensive personnel.
  5. Giants sign WR Ed Eagan to roster The Giants are rebuilding their receiving corps on the fly. They promoted wide receiver Travis Rudolph from their practice squad on Monday and re-signed wideout Tavarres King to replace Odell Beckham Jr. and Dwayne Harris, who both went on injured reserve after season-ending surgery. The team also re-signed Darius Powe to the practice squad. The Giants signed Eagan, a one-time undrafted free agent out of Northwestern (La.) State, late in the preseason. He was among the final cuts, but returned to their practice squad in Week 3.
  6. Congratulations, we are so happy for you. Bottom line, the Zips own Portage County. Go Zips!
  7. If Jerome started playing Sunday, he wouldn't be that far behind this "struggling" rookie receiving class.
  8. 7. State of Kent (1-5) Boiling Green won, thanks to a bad snap-turned-TD return against My Hammy of Ohio. The Buffalo Bulls Not Bills lost in seven (!) overtimes to Western Michigan. But Kent kept on keeping on, getting rolled 24-3 by Northern Illinois. But the best #Bottom10Lobbying effort came from a fan of 2-3 Eastern Michigan, stuck in a meh Ypsilanti purgatory somewhere between winning the Bottom 10 title two years ago and going to a bowl game last December.
  9. MAC Weekly Media Teleconference Audio (Bowden) • Defense has gotten better each week. They bend, don't break. • TW missed five deep balls. He runs our offense well. He gives us a chance to be successful on offense. • We will be tested by WMU's running game. • WMU might be the best team in the conference • If you "bend" with this team, they will get in the end zone. • Hopefully WMU will be tired after 7 overtimes. I had to spend the whole day watching the film. • East and west champions will come down to November.
  10. Brandon Marshall out for the season, come on Jerry pick up the phone.
  11. Anyone that doesn't have access to CBSSN, you can try the CBS app for free. Dave Ryan will do play-by-play, Corey Chavous, analyst, and Melanie Collins on the sideline. In the NCAA stats, Akron is No. 4 in defensive touchdowns (3), No. 13 in passes intercepted (8), No. 30 in third down conversions (0.455), and No. 38 in red zone defense (0.762). Individually, junior LB Ulysees Gilbert III is ranked No. 17 in total tackles (9.7). In the NCAA stats, Western Michigan is ranked No. 13 in scoring offense (42.8), No. 14 in kickoff returns (26.47), No. 16 in red zone offense (0.929), and No. 21 in net punting (41.33). Senior CB Darius Phillips is No. 1 in kickoff return touchdowns (2) and No. 4 in kickoff returns (36.8). Sophomore QB Jon Wassink is No. 17 in points per game (17.0). Senior RB Jarvion Franklin is WMU's top rusher with 408 yards and six touchdowns on 90 carries. Sophomore QB Jon Wassink is 91-of-140 for 1,019 yards and 12 touchdowns. Sophomore WR D'Wayne Eskridge is the leading receiver with 352 yards and two touchdowns on 17 receptions. Defensively, senior LB Asantay Brown has 50 tackles ,two forced fumbles, and two sacks.
  12. DirecTV channel 221 in high def. Eastern plays Army right before, good DVR Saturday ??
  13. Warren Ball's injury means he will finish the season with 332 yards rushing. Only nine members have a chance to win selecting Ball under 900 yards. Zips Wins - 3 Warren Ball rushing yards - 332 ? Reception Leaders - Tra’Von 25, Coney 22, Smith 17, Wolf 15 Defensive sacks - 13
  14. Nice interview with Thomas Woodson. Coach Milwee says Thomas is quiet, but commands respect in the huddle. He brings a lot of confidence and knows what I'm thinking without saying it sometimes. Chapman on TW, he's like a brother to me. Thomas says he would like to teach or coach. Stock rising: John Lako's stock is rising. His football IQ is off the chart. Former walk-on. Players of the week: Wolf, George and Sands on special teams.
  15. Twenty-five different Zips recorded tackles Saturday!!? ? I know sophomore lineman Devin Jones, junior linebacker Travonte Junius, & junior defensive back Hugh Cade got in for plays too. That's 28 different defenders? Anybody notice others not listed?
  16. Akron is 4-2 against the spread in its last 6 games on the road.
  17. Attendance: 20,199
  18. Reps might be the short answer. The Zips have a lot of new receivers he is working with. He had surgery in the offseason and just started to throw in June. He didn't get to scrimmage much in the summer. I have heard some people claim there was wind Saturday. Standing on the field, I didn't really feel it though. He's been pretty good at the deep throw throughout his Zips career, I would guess the passing game continues to progress throughout the year. He did not overthrow Wolf on this touchdown.
  19. Multiple times this week, coach Bowden expressed that he wanted more explosive plays. I’m sure Woodson was following a game plan. Hard to argue the results.
  20. He'll be 65 next summer, this year should be it. Hope he enjoys retirement.
  21. I've always thought that coaches Amato and Stroud do a good job with halftime adjustments.
  22. Not diminishing Trevor, because he did do a good job, but there was a lot of tight end help lined up on Winbush yesterday.
