I just got done listening to a podcast with veteran draft scout Dave Te Thomas, super entertaining. He claims this year's QB class is one of the worst, he claims next years will be off the chart, like '83. Kind of in line with the post above. I like Kaaya late for a team with an established QB and system. I know the NFL team I root for is high on Dobbs, I am not. If I HAD to have a QB I suppose I would draft Mahomes. Dave claims that his "SF contact" says the Browns have offered their 1st (12th pick), 2nd and 3rd for the 2nd pick overall because they want Trubisky. He also claims that Myles Garrett is going to be Jarvis Jones the second. Likes Jamal Adams number one overall. He loves Ryan Anderson in round 3, he thinks he is a perfect 3-4 OL. Hates Takk McKinley, says the GM that drafts him will be selling apples in five years because he has had five shoulder surgeries. He says Dobbs is the smartest QB in the draft, and will pick up a playbook in one off season, compared him to Russell Wilson. Dave loves OLB Tyus Bowser from Houston, and claims QB Jerod Evans from VT made a big mistake coming out this year. His favorite sleeper CB is Brian Allen out of Utah, he is projected in the fifth, but Dave would grab him in the third. Claims he has heard from his "guys" that the Steelers are very interested in another MAC guy, Kenny Golladay from Northern Illinois. Speaking of local, he claims someone is going to get huge value out of the Adam Shaheen, the tight end from Ashland in round 2 or 3. Dave says OL and WR this year is very weak. He thinks Corey Davis is 50% healthy right now. Thinks that Andy Reid might come up in late round one and trade to get Davis Webb depending how the draft goes. Overrated WR, Zay Jones, underrated Carlos Henderson Louisiana Tech. Says the team up in Rutherford is looking to take WR Mack Hollins in the fourth. If Sam Donald comes out next year he might receive only the third perfect score (John Elway & Bo Jackson) since he has been scouting in 1968. Would consider tanking to get him. This guy gave more on the draft in a half hour than I have ever heard. He took the year off because his wife battled cancer. Never heard of the guy, but I wanted to document some of this so I can come back and check his work in a few years. Wonderlic Scores 1. Brad Kaaya (Miami) - 34/50 2. Nathan Peterman (Pitt) - 33/50 3. Trevor Knight (Texas A&M) - 30/50 4. Josh Dobbs (Tennessee) - 29/50 5. DeShone Kizer (Notre Dame) - 28/50 6. C.J. Beathard (Iwoa) - 26/50 7. Mitchell Trubisky (UNC) - 25/50 8. Davis Webb (Cal) - 25/50 9. Patrick Mahomes (Texas Tech) - 24/50 10. Chad Kelly (Ole Miss) - 22/50 11. Jerod Evans (Virginia Tech) - 21/50 12. DeShaun Watson 20/50 SOURCE: NFL Draft Diamonds

Western Michigan WR Corey Davis visited the Ravens, Titans, Eagles, Browns, and Cardinals. It is usually foolish to put much stock into where a prospect visits, but Davis' list could be important considering he was not able to work out at the Combine or his Pro Day because of ankle surgery. Davis did post a video showing him running routes, and he expects to be at full health in a few weeks. Of the visits, Davis noted the "feel" with the Ravens was "a lot different" than the others. Owners of the No. 16 pick, Baltimore could certainly use a receiver with Davis' skill set. Source: Rotoworld.

"Like, look at their schedule in the last decade, do you really want to play teams like Coppin State and Adrian? Right?"

I saw Stewart the week before, he looks the part, and caught everything thrown his way. He stood out. The receivers will benefit when Woodson starts playing again. Playing against the Zips secondary in practice is going to make the receiving corp better too, they won't play against too many better groups this year.

I follow the Steelers pretty close. Somebody like Jerome should be on this list if he had a good chance of being drafted by the Steelers. I agree, that he needs to get drafted by a team that has some established coaching and experienced veterans to have an increased chance of performing well.

Being out of town, I was not able to attend, but I did listen to the broadcast. Steve and Brad really didn't do a typical game day broadcast. They had a lot of interviews from the sideline from Joe. All the interviews were pretty entertaining. Apparently a lot of ex Zips played a flag football game Friday night, sounds like all the participants had a lot of fun. I thought the most interesting interview Joe did was with Woodson. He described his injury as, an injury that started to heal on top of the injury. This is why it was hard to know if he was ready to play each week. Apparently they had to remove what was healing on his labrum and then fix. He said he felt good. Coach Bowden watched from the box. He mentioned that MTB got dinged, but no other injuries. I heard from a reliable source that he will be just fine. Speaking of MTB, I see he won Spring Offensive MVP. Spring Football Awards Offense MVP– Senior TE Mykel Traylor-Bennett / Most Improved– Sophomore OL Trevor Brown & sophomore TE Brandon Junk / Unsung Hero– Sophomore RB Chuck Turfe Defense MVP– Junior CB Darian Dailey & senior LB Andrew Hauser / Most Improved– Junior DL Brennan Williams / Unsung Hero– Sophomore CB Denzel Butler & redshirt freshman Andrew Siegman Weight Room Awards Offensive MVP– Senior WR A.J. Coney / Defensive MVP– Senior S Zach Guiser / Most Improved– Sophomore OL Trevor Brown, junior CB Jordan George, senior LB Andrew Hauser

This may be one of the reasons Jerome decided to enter the draft this year: "It's the worst wide receiver class I've seen in a long time," said one NFC executive. source

I have, not a huge fan. One and done. For reference, I like the Summer Shandy a lot better.

Akron Zips April 15th Intrasquad Scrimmage

A couple more... Left tackle Trevor Brown, and others provide Kato with protection from a blitzing Shawn Featherstone. The defense gets set as Kato gets to the line. The team run many first and goal at the ten situations. -

Mikel Traylor-Bennett pulls down a sideline route. Safety Vince Lockett nearly gets to a ball intended for Kwadarrius Smith. Sophomore Denzel Butler returns and interception. After knocking a ball to the ground, Darian Dailey reminds the sideline not to come his way. Manny Morgan works hard to gain extra yardage. Nate Stewart pulls down a long go route. Nate Stewart pulls down a Clayton Uecker td pass. AJ Coney hauls in a long pass from Nick Johns. Undrea Bullard and the rest of the offensive line give Nick Johns time to deliver. Tra'von Chapman scores on a quick slant from the slot. The offensive line gathers for some instruction. Brock Boxen looks to put last year's injury behind him. Nate Stewart works for some yards after the catch. Mikel Traylor-Bennett scores from his familiar wildcat position. Mikel Traylor-Bennett celebrates his goal line prowess. Mikel Traylor-Bennett goes low to get into the end zone. Nick Johns scores on a quick slant. Kato Nelson scores on a fade pass. -
“A lot of the guys turn 22 or 23 and their love of the game changes,” UA coach Terry Bowden said of Tuley-Tillman’s departure. “He saw the future of his life out there and football was not where he wanted to go. It happens sometimes. When a player decides they’ve had enough of football, they’ve had enough.” That means sophomore Trevor Brown and junior Undrea Bullard will battle to assume that role for the offense once the regular season rolls around. Good for Logan, hope he is successful in his future. Justin Gilbert should have did the same.

(Referring to the Video above) Denzel Butler and Jordan George making some nice plays on the ball. Who made the tackle to chop down Chapman on the sweep? That was nice. I'm optimistic about our secondary helping our line make some plays this year.

7 million dollars, but you have to move to Pittsburgh. ?
-
If drafted by the proper team with a consistent staff and solid veterans to show him how to become an NFL receiver, he will do just fine. Hopefully he can get drafted at the bottom of a round, and not the top. Just like Hixon. PFF's evaluation is accurate, as always.

I'm starting to think the cookie needs its own thread. AND Keener needs to change his icon.

Mine is the sweet sixteen, and it is realistic. I watched Kent State do it. I'm not disagreeing with you. Only trying to support your point.

Only first-year Duquesne director of athletics Dave Harper prioritizes such a streak. ?

I was hoping it was available to stream???♂️

GT. It's around the 22 min mark. Coach's first response was "I didn't anticipate that question..."
-
He asked the first question...something like, what is it like being here, after being at OU? Love the WZIP interview. Nice job Khalil, get some more.

I was always jealous of OU's tournament success with Groce, so I was a fan right away just knowing his record (where it counts). Then I watched his youtube videos describing his offense and defense when he was hired at Illinois, sounded good to me. Then I watched the video of his presser when he got fired at Illinois, very impressed. Today I was impressed with his confidence and his communication skills. It's easy for me to see why he is coach/teacher. It's great to hear him say he likes to mix in a little zone, I really miss seeing that. Love hearing that he talked about scheduling with the AD before he was hired and wants to be challenged. But my favorite part was when he described TP as experienced because of his hairline. Classic. ? PS Thank you LZip and Blue & Gold for embedding/replying that. Worked well. If you missed, here you go. Starbucks Akron Arena 2020?

Gil is one of my favorite NFL analyst. Hard on the ears, but full of knowledge. Interesting comment by Gil...."Jabrill Peppers –– I've felt for a long time that his best position might be running back." In the correct system, I think Jamal has a chance to make a roster. I will forever remember his senior year as, what could have been for the Zips (with his and TW injuries). And the fact that he come back and played limited snaps injured. Good luck to him. I only wish he wouldn't have gone back to all his Columbus stuff on social media after the season.

I agree. I think everybody on the team should increase their cardio training, starting today.

How fun/exciting is it writing about the remote possibility of a top player transferring in to Akron? Zip basketball fans are in uncharted territory.
