  1. EA of the PD reports that at Akron's pro day, Lane... "did 16 reps on the bench at 225 pounds at the indoor practice field, and said he posted his best vertical jump ever at 37 inches. Lane did not run a 40-yard-dash but said he is a consistent 4.5."The 40 is not big to me,'' Lane said. "My game speed shows up.''Lane is not considered a first-day draft pick, but he fits the measurables pro teams want on the flanks. That could make him a prime target in the late rounds of the draft, or as a priority free agent." Pro Football Focus has Jerome listed as a top 25 receiver in their draft rankings.
  2. Josh being honored at halftime of the Appalachian State game last year.
  3. I agree with this. I was incredibly disappointed when he went up against WMU and didn't shadow Davis. They moved Davis to X, Y, and Z in that game, and Scott kept his position. Obviously that is coach Amato's D, but it's a question I hope to get the answer to in June. I would love to see his pff grade throughout his college career, I'll bet it's impressive. They rank him as the 24th CB in the draft. Still disappointed not to see numbers here. The below list is from GoZips dot com.
  4. Good luck Josh.
  5. That's a lot of apples and oranges.
  6. I can't find any recent data comparing athletic program spending, but this fact has always stuck with me. In 2012, ACE indicated only eight public university athletic programs either covered their expenses (across all athletic programs; not just football) or broke even. Pennsylvania State University (Penn State), University of Georgia, University of Iowa, University of Michigan, University of Nebraska, University of Oklahoma, University of Texas At these schools, athletic programs brought in enough revenue in 2012 to cover their expenses without requiring financial support from the university. According to ACE, most of that money can be attributed directly to football. source Here is the followup article on all Ohio Schools that includes this graphic.
  7. Edit to Marquess Callaway from this article by Michael Beaven. "...senior defensive back Marquess Callaway is working on improving his ACT score to earn a scholarship during the summer or fall..." Callaway had offers from Toledo and Malone, and was generating interest from several schools including, Michigan State, Indiana, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Iowa, Iowa State and Youngstown State.
  8. ??? Details of Brian Gregory's USF coaching agreement ???
  9. In a recent interview, I heard Jim Boeheim indicated the way he measures the success of any team is not by their record, it is by who they beat. That makes a lot of sense to me.
  10. Carlos Carrasco - The American Dream "... ever since I became a U.S. citizen looking at the flag has meant something more. Home. It’s my anthem and my flag now, too. When I got to my locker after the last game of our series in Washington, my clothes were gone. My teammates had hung up an Uncle Sam costume for me to wear on the flight home instead. “Welcome to America!” they all cheered at me. I wore that outfit on the bus, and then on the plane ride back to Ohio. I loved it! The guys are so happy for me, and it’s been great to share this with them. There’s just this spirit here — from my teammates, to the people in the front office, to our trainers. It’s unbelievable. We’ve gone through so much together on the field, of course. But they’ve had an even bigger impact on my life because of everything that has happened off the field. Every day they helped me learned English. They are the ones who really helped me become an American..." "... it’s more than just standing out on the mound. Or starting my first major league season as an American. It’s looking up into the stands at my wife and kids. It’s looking over at my teammates. It’s looking around at our fans in Cleveland. And knowing that I’m home..."
  11. Going through multiple shoulder rehabs myself, toss, and throw are two different things. Tossing the ball in March is a positive sign he will be throwing the ball in the near future.
  12. Positive sign
  13. Apparently the last upgrade resulted in some defaults resetting. This should again, be set back to 19.5 MB. I'll keep an eye on this for future upgrades.
  14. Good read. Interesting projection at the very very bottom: ?? Balls on Overview ?? Biggest strength: Quarterback Tommy Woodson had some huge games when bouncing between injuries. A healthy Woodson could erupt, if he has receivers to throw to. Biggest question mark: Is Akron any better equipped to handle a run of injuries? They derailed the Zips last year, and a couple of poorly placed knocks could again bring the house of cards crashing down. Biggest 2017 game: The trip to Bowling Green (Sept. 29) could be big for either bowl eligibility or MAC East title purposes. Summary: Akron was on a run of 13 wins in 19 games before injuries led to a devastating late-season collapse. The Zips’ starting 22 will be more talented than much of the MAC, but how many of those 22 can stay on the field?
  15. UTA is a well coached team, they sure did a lot of things correct. Love their offense, and love their defense. Cross had a simple game plan, shut down Big Dog, and make the rest of the team beat you. They did an excellent job executing that game plan. Their kids sure looked like they were having fun playing offense and defense. Lots of hustle all around. I'll probably watch their game Wednesday against CSU Bakersfield. Since our offense will no longer run through Big Dog, I'll be intrigued to see the Zips offense next year. I would hope Ivey gets some specific attention in it. Go Zips! PS As poorly as the Zips played, hats off to the announcing team, I thought they did a nice job pointing out what the Zips were doing wrong, and what UTA was doing successful without being too annoying...being a Zips fan.

  17. Comprehensive New Players Listing - 2017

  19. And we're off...
  20. The Zips are five point underdogs tonight. Brett likes the Zips and the points Odds Shark's computers predict the Zips to lose 70-73. "Rebounding is always a key in handicapping, and Akron is ranked No. 196 in NCAA. Contrast that with Texas-Arlington's No. 35 mark in the paint." Elton Alexander writes The Zips are looking to continue their road success. "I've been gone so long I feel like a pro coach,'' Akron coach Keith Dambrot said. And he notes the players are out of their comfort zone as well. "They're about ready to lose their minds.''......"They're going to be challenging. They're big and have a really good point guard Dambrot said. The Mavericks will have a lot of bodies to throw at the 6-10, 290-pound Johnson as five players stand between 6-8 and 7-1. The team has three double-figure scorers and three more that score better than eight points a game." George Thomas gets KD on the phone for some discussion about Texas-Arlington yesterday. "There could be a wild card for the Zips in this game. Center Isaiah “Big Dog” Johnson tweaked his knee against the Cougars."
  21. If this were my offense, I would explore adjusting my personnel packages at the line of scrimmage with the flexibility of MTB and TC. Assuming TC could lineup at WR and RB, we already know that MTB can lineup at TE, WR and H-back. With the same huddle, you could adjust to 00, 01, 02, 10, 11, 12... after getting to the line of scrimmage to see what personnel the defense was playing. That would be a tempting option for me to experiment with a couple times in each half.
  22. Lining up inside and outside.
