“A lot of the guys turn 22 or 23 and their love of the game changes,” UA coach Terry Bowden said of Tuley-Tillman’s departure. “He saw the future of his life out there and football was not where he wanted to go. It happens sometimes. When a player decides they’ve had enough of football, they’ve had enough.” That means sophomore Trevor Brown and junior Undrea Bullard will battle to assume that role for the offense once the regular season rolls around. Good for Logan, hope he is successful in his future. Justin Gilbert should have did the same.

(Referring to the Video above) Denzel Butler and Jordan George making some nice plays on the ball. Who made the tackle to chop down Chapman on the sweep? That was nice. I'm optimistic about our secondary helping our line make some plays this year.

7 million dollars, but you have to move to Pittsburgh. ?

If drafted by the proper team with a consistent staff and solid veterans to show him how to become an NFL receiver, he will do just fine. Hopefully he can get drafted at the bottom of a round, and not the top. Just like Hixon. PFF's evaluation is accurate, as always.

I'm starting to think the cookie needs its own thread. AND Keener needs to change his icon.

Mine is the sweet sixteen, and it is realistic. I watched Kent State do it. I'm not disagreeing with you. Only trying to support your point.

Only first-year Duquesne director of athletics Dave Harper prioritizes such a streak. ?

I was hoping it was available to stream???♂️

GT. It's around the 22 min mark. Coach's first response was "I didn't anticipate that question..."

He asked the first question...something like, what is it like being here, after being at OU? Love the WZIP interview. Nice job Khalil, get some more.

I was always jealous of OU's tournament success with Groce, so I was a fan right away just knowing his record (where it counts). Then I watched his youtube videos describing his offense and defense when he was hired at Illinois, sounded good to me. Then I watched the video of his presser when he got fired at Illinois, very impressed. Today I was impressed with his confidence and his communication skills. It's easy for me to see why he is coach/teacher. It's great to hear him say he likes to mix in a little zone, I really miss seeing that. Love hearing that he talked about scheduling with the AD before he was hired and wants to be challenged. But my favorite part was when he described TP as experienced because of his hairline. Classic. ? PS Thank you LZip and Blue & Gold for embedding/replying that. Worked well. If you missed, here you go. Starbucks Akron Arena 2020?

Gil is one of my favorite NFL analyst. Hard on the ears, but full of knowledge. Interesting comment by Gil...."Jabrill Peppers –– I've felt for a long time that his best position might be running back." In the correct system, I think Jamal has a chance to make a roster. I will forever remember his senior year as, what could have been for the Zips (with his and TW injuries). And the fact that he come back and played limited snaps injured. Good luck to him. I only wish he wouldn't have gone back to all his Columbus stuff on social media after the season.

I agree. I think everybody on the team should increase their cardio training, starting today.

How fun/exciting is it writing about the remote possibility of a top player transferring in to Akron? Zip basketball fans are in uncharted territory.

UA did not confirm the hiring but reportedly has scheduled a news conference for Thursday

Peoria Illini writes "Good for Groce! I'm assuming Dustin Ford and possibly Parnham may follow him there. We'll see him in the dance in a few years." Dustin Ford Dustin Ford is in his fifth season as an assistant coach for the Fighting Illini. He was hired in April 2012 to coach John Groce's first staff at Illinois. Prior to coming to Illinois, Ford served on Groce's Ohio University staff for four seasons from 2009-12, helping guide the Bobcats to an 85-56 overall record. Ford specialized in working with the frontcourt, aiding in the improvement of players such as Jerome Tillman (first-team All-MAC in 2009), DeVaughn Washington (honorable mention All-MAC in 2011) and Ivo Baltic (honorable mention All-MAC in 2012). Prior to his stint in Athens, Ford served three years as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator on Larry Hunter's staff at Western Carolina from 2006-08 and was promoted to associate head coach in the spring of 2008. During his tenure at Western Carolina, he was responsible for recruiting two eventual Southern Conference Defensive Players of the Year in Brigham Waginger (2010) and Richie Gordon (2011) and a SoCon Freshman of the Year in Harouna Mutombo (2009). Ford began his coaching career as the head varsity coach at Jackson High School in Jackson, Ohio, for four seasons from 2002-05. Paris Parnham Paris Parham is in his fifth season as an assistant coach on John Groce's Fighting Illini staff. The Chicago native is an 18-year veteran of the coaching profession. Parham came to Illinois after five years as an assistant at Illinois State. ISU won 104 games during Parham's tenure on former head coach Tim Jankovich's staff. The Redbirds recorded four 20-plus win seasons in five years, advancing to the NIT four times and the Missouri Valley Tournament championship game three times. Parham spent the previous three years in Chicago, serving one season as head coach at Morgan Park (2007) and two seasons as head coach at Phillips Academy (2005-06). He was the Chicago Public League's Red-Central Coach of the Year in 2005 after leading Phillips to an undefeated conference record. During this time, Parham also coached with the AAU program Full Package and assisted at the Chicago Bulls Training Academy. Impressive.

Let me get this straight, now some Zip fans are making excuses for Groce winning in the tournament. I'm was just getting used to the excuses for KD losing in the tournament. I'm going to have to have some adjustment time. ?

Fleck is a Genius, Just Ask Him 7 on 7, how inventive, he should contact LegalZoom for the patent. Why don't I miss this guy?

Dambrot says 'yes' to Duquesne this time
Dr Z replied to GeorgeThomasABJ's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
KD is going to build it with old school Pittsburgh. Can't wait to see him at a Steeler game with his face painted waving the towel. -
Which Zips QB will start the most games in 2017?
Dr Z replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
I had to look him up. I can't believe someone is actually from Key Biscayne. Moving from an island to Akron can't be a picnic. -
I know some University employees read here, but maybe a well written email to Larry would be appropriate. krex@uakron.edu You seem passionate on the subject, and he seems like a good communicator, and may be responsive.

Linvingston wrote: "Dambrot seldom challenged himself or his team with his schedule" Seems like an unbefitting article since Dambrot is packed and gone. I could have respected it, if he were still actually coaching at Akron.
