Big Dog, no rebounds in the first half? Odd.

Mark your calendars, June 2, 2017 at Shale Creek Golf Club

Booooooooooooooo.

That sucks, I thought they did a good job. Hopefully some of the talent gets picked up by others.

Player Profiles: Ohio OLB Tarell Basham. The Steelers have already met with Tarell, both Toledo prospects, and Cooper Rush. Seems like a possibility of them getting another MAC player to Latrobe.

The 2012-2013 Akron Zips: The Breakthrough Year That Wasn't
Dr Z replied to UAZip0510's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I sure hope the Zips win tonight, so fans have better topics to discuss. -
With Western Michigan’s win at Illinois and Northwestern last year, the MAC has won a regular season game vs Big Ten opponents in each of the last 11 consecutive seasons, the longest streak in MAC history.

The last guy (Jimmy Hall) to play against Big Dog is 6'8" 235. Hall had 19 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. I hope the guys you listed are less talented than Jimmy. Big Dog will get his touches tonight, no doubt. Hopefully he converts the majority of his attempts, and the Zips hit their threes when he passes back to the perimeter. Something tells me it will come down to Kwan having a successful game to pull off the upset. Time to walk the walk, get to MSG and prove to everyone this program is serious! We need some "January Kwan" tonight! BTW, with the Cal loss, the Cougars are the highest seeded team left on our quadrant. UH coach Sampson says that 330 pound Isaiah Johnson is a joy to watch.

That's awesome.

Don't sleep on Keon and his Eagles in the Tourney. I'll be real interested in Thursday's game with Butler, Keon's team getting 11. Should be a nice money line. ?

The Cougars are ready to go. The Cougars earned their invitation to the postseason by posting the program’s 21st 21-win season in school history and finishing in the American Athletic Conference, which boasted nationally ranked Cincinnati and SMU. Entering Wednesday’s game, Houston has won eight of its last 11 games. Alex Faust will do the play-by-play, and Reid Gettys will be the analyst on ESPNU. Gettys was part of the “Phi Slama Jama” era in the early 1980s. The game is being played at the Health and Physical Education Arena (H&PE Arena) is an 8,100-seat multi-purpose arena in Houston, Texas. It was built in 1989 and is home to the Texas Southern University Tigers basketball and volleyball teams. The Zips are an eight point underdog. Odds Sharks predicts a 70-67 Zips victory.

Michigan State is dancing for the 20th consecutive season under coach Tom Izzo. They won't face UA as I predicted, instead they get the U. ??♂️

"It's good for us,'' Akron coach Keith Dambrot said. "Thank God it's Houston because we have a lot of Houston kids on our team. This will help us get motivated to play. They're all disappointed but we're getting over it." --EA of PD UH Cougars dot com information The Chron lists the Houston connections: Antino Jackson (Cypress Springs), forward Emmanuel Olojakpoke (Cypress Springs), forward Daniel Utomi (Westside) and guard Ty Dalton (Second Baptist). An experimental rule in this tournament eliminates the 1 and 1 free throws, can this benefit the Zips? NIT bracket image found here. ESPN stats and matchup found here.

Akron Zips v Kent State Golden Flashes: The MAC Championship
Dr Z replied to NWAkron's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I would have went with, "Sad." at the end. I always thought one of the toughest thing to do as an athlete is to lose a tough game, and then ten minutes later talk about it to the media. Here are some thoughts from Noah, ten minutes after losing an incredible emotional game. Noah: "I mean, it's tough now, but I think overall we had a good season. Obviously not the outcome that we wanted. I feel so bad for Big Dog and Kwan, Carlitos and Mark, guys that just come in and compete every single day. I came in here as a 17-year old kid, and I'm 20 years old now, and those guys just taught me a lot on and off the court. Just tremendous, I mean I'm hurting really bad inside, but I mean, I got those guys to fall back on. I know those guys will keep me sane for at least the next couple days. I mean, it hurts right now, but I'm appreciative to be a part of this university. Being from Las Vegas, moving to Akron, I appreciate all the hospitality that I've received, and I'm glad to be a Zip. It's a tough day today, but we're a great institution, the great president, great coaching, great players and we have a great support system. But it hurts now, but I'm appreciative of the opportunity that I just had." -
Nice job with the quizzes all year long. ?? Hope to have at least two more.

Akron Zips v Ball State Cardinals: MAC Semi Finals
Dr Z replied to NWAkron's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Question from yesterday's post game press conference: "How do you view the 19 second sequence, the free throws, the two steals?" KD: "Well, if you know a lot about this game, right, it usually comes down to the teams that get the most spurts and the biggest spurt, and we were hanging around, they were hanging around and we couldn't quite shake them. We had chances we missed. If you notice we missed some open shots that could have busted it open early, and we didn't make, which now becomes a dangerous situation, right, because they're still hanging around. But then we went, boom, boom, boom, and that's the game. And that's really what happens in sports. You have to make sure that you get more spurts than the others." -

Dr Z replied to 1981 grad's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I was at the game yesterday, so I'm not positive, but I heard no VPN necessary. For future reference. Thanks for posting this MDZip, I was on the other side of the court and couldn't see. -
Akron Zips v Ball State Cardinals: MAC Semi Finals
Dr Z replied to NWAkron's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I thought Trey Moses played well yesterday (11 points / 14 rebounds). I had to go back and look if he had any success against us in early February, not much in the box, 4 points, 3 rebounds. I run across this article accidentally. Now I have a hard time rooting against him. Darn it. -
