  1. this video link sucks. Stuck at work and wanted to listen, but the audio is so quiet that I have to crank it all the way up just to hear anything. That and there doesn't seem like there's much "production" going on Did i expect much more from the U? No... but I didn't it'd be this bad... **EDIT** 15 minutes later, things got better. Finally some worthwhile video. Quality sucks, but I'll take it.
  2. http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...TCLID=205074899 4 Paragraph: Fans unable to attend the event can still watch the presentation live via video streaming on GoZips.com for free. Click here and follow the Men's Soccer Championship Celebration link to watch once the event begins.
  3. If there's one person right now to trust in keeping the Zips at the top, its Porter. He'll bring in a recruiting class that should be able to maintain that level of excellence we've come to expect. Let's not forget we've lost a significant number of players to the MLS draft in recent years and every year we seem to have gotten better. Porter will have the new recruits well entrenched into our system and I expect another exciting year. Like zip37 said, maybe a few more losses due to the lack of experience, but I firmly believe our style of play and the level of talent we bring in will keep things going. It will, however, be interesting to see how things go come tournament time.
  4. I dont know the letter of the copyright, so I can't say. One would assume that making copies for free wouldn't constitute copyright infringement, but to me this seems like a copyright "grey area". Perhaps someone with greater knowledge of copyright laws dealing with copies of a televised program could chime in?
  5. I would assume there would be a copyright applied to the video that prohibits the reproduction and sale of the video. Either way, I plan on ripping the DVD to a digital format so I can play it anywhere
  6. I know a thread exists about this topic, but I can't find it. Oh well. I was linked to the NCAA on Demand site and submitted a request to be able to purchase the 2010 championship game on DVD. Here's the response I got back: So I guess it comes down to whether we would be able to gather 25 orders...
  7. Current indications are that it won't be during halftime and instead before the game Sent them a request!
  8. whats the difference between pregame and halftime? Maybe an hour or so? I sure hope the reason it's before the game isn't becuase of the MLS draft. A flight to Baltimore doesn't take that long and it would be entirely possible for them to fly out after the game. The soccer team deserves a halftime celebration, not some cheesy, half-assed pregame mention.
  9. I just got an email and it sounds like the "celebration" will be before the game. LAME.
  10. Do you mean the gold trans-am?
  11. +1 With a type of infrastructure like HSR, you can't wait for demand to be there to begin working on implementing it. It takes forward-thinking to see mass-transit becoming increasingly in demand and putting yourself in position to best capitalize on the demand. Ohio definitely doesn't have people in charge who are capable of thinking that far ahead. And that goes for areas outside of HSR.
  12. that vast majority of Europe would disagree, RootforRoo. Rail, both in the forms of conventional speed and high-speed, have proven to be a very effective means of mass transportation. There's a reason why they're still in the process of building a rail tunnel through the swiss alps instead of it being a highway tunnel. Sure, taking a train ride down to columbus may cost a little more than driving and take an almost equal time, but consider the other savings. First and foremost being environmental pollution. If every train rider drove their respective cars, it'll produce a lot more pollution than a single train would. Second, theres next to no wear-and-tear on your car from the trip aside from the drive to the stations. Thats a long-term cost savings right there. Third, you aren't required to DRIVE, meaning you could take a early-morning or late-night train and not have to worry about staying awake. You can sleep, read a book, surf the web, do whatever you want while on the train. Its just relaxing and much less stressful. Lastly, the rail lines are almost always on-time, meaning you won't have to worry about traffic jams from accidents, long lines at the security checkpoints, or have to deal idiot drivers. I would glady pay more to go to columbus or points further if it meant a more enjoyable ride and an overall better trip.
  13. No... see LeBron is a professional passer. Thats how he got away with putting up decent numbers while quitting on us during the playoffs. He'd just pass it off and let someone else screw the game.
  14. This just showed up on my news feed as well. If this doesn't shut up the naysayers who think Porter is headed for "greener pastures", then I don't know what will. I think we can all rest assured that Porter has found his greener pasture and he's not going anywhere.
  15. thanks for the heads up! Ill be heading over that way tonight to check it out
  16. You are correct in that the lot 9 dorms are in a holding pattern due to the lack of funding. However, the only reason these dorms are going through is because the University doesn't have to put forth any capital. From the article: "In the meantime, the university will not have to tie up any of its capital money in construction, and Signet will assume the risk. If enrollment or student interest in on-campus living falters, the company, not UA, would be on the hook." **edit: Dr. Z beat me to this quote. Still, this should be emphasized I do agree that the entire memorial field property should be razed and turned into an all-purpose field. Let the students who live around there use it as greenspace and then use it as tailgate central for football games
  17. I wonder if this effects Lot Niners™ hahahaha no If you look, these dorms will be replacing the townhouses, Grant Residence Hall, and Galucci.
  18. I would absolutely love this just for record-keeping sake. I've been putting together a folder on my computer full of pictures, video, and whatever else I can get my hands on.
  19. Im hoping dedicated concessions and bathrooms would be on that list...
  20. I think the 1 main point some are missing right now is that all this talk about Porter being lured to "supposed" greener pastures are all purely rumors. This exact scenario played out with DC United offering Porter a job there. Porter knew he'd make more money there than he would here at UA, but look at the decision he made. Not only did he turn down the job, he signed a 5 year contract extension. As a reward for his loyalty to our program, we built him a beautiful new stadium he can be proud of. Porter has made it clear countless times that he absolutely loves where he is at with the support of the students, fans, and the University. In fact, if anyone cared to read a post I made last night quoting an ESPN article, Porter said the following: "Also, my mentor [Jerry Yeagley] stayed at Indiana his entire career. He had other opportunities, but in the end, he got so attached he could never leave it. And right now, that's kind of where I'm at." If thats not an indicator of where Porter intends to be for the foreseeable future, then I don't know what is. You can always make more money elsewhere, but you can't always be happy and comfortable there too. Porter has a GREAT gig here and I believe he'd be hard-pressed to even consider going anywhere else.
  21. Like LeBron, Ken Lolla leaving was probably the best thing that could have happened to this place.
  22. Another good article by the folks over at ESPN. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/columns/sto...&id=5913687 best quote of the article doesn't come till the end: "Also, my mentor [Jerry Yeagley] stayed at Indiana his entire career. He had other opportunities, but in the end, he got so attached he could never leave it. And right now, that's kind of where I'm at."
  23. When I read the title of this thread, I thought to myself "Not even 5 hours after winning the championship there's already someone raining on our parade". Thankfully, I was wrong. I agree, BUT this should just be the continuation of dominant Akron soccer. Akron has always had a really good soccer program, especially over the last few years and it's not as if we've never been a really good team before. If there's one thing to take from this championship, it's that Porter is always going to play the same type of game that got us here in the first place. I have faith in our fearless leader to continue his winning ways. The bar has been set for next year's team. Its up to Porter and the guys on the pitch to put it together again. But... for the next 8 months, WE are the best team in the nation and WE are soccer kings. Nobody else can say that until the final whistle next December. **Edit, just for Zipmeister: 12 months, depending on how you read the above statement
