...so how about that Luke Holmes kid? hes going to be a BEAST. From what i saw during the game and during the highlight video, his footwork looked fantastic and will give us that second dimension we needed.

We CAN have an extremely bright future. Just not the way we thought it would be 5 years ago. Our football world is changing and we just have to be open to making the best out of our situation. Its truly unfortunate. 5 years ago we thought that with a better coach in place we could really start making a splash in our corner of the pond. Now it seems like we're just a fish out of water. We all know where its gone terribly wrong... the question is if thats going to cost our program a lot in the long run. My gut feeling is yes, my hope is no.

Great article... especially in helping to explain why these conference realignments have happened. it never really made complete sense until now. As far as our zips go... well... the future doesn't look bright

I saw many red shirts piled up on a table. I asked what they were going to do with them and they said they planned to donate them. Not sure how this helps lessen the red plague in NE Ohio. Im cool with it if they donate them to communities outside the country....

@Zip Watcher I think this has been hashed out countless times, but the layout of the JAR for students has been what i believe to be the issue with gathering student attendance. Compare the JAR with the Hill... divided, small section for students vs a large, unified one. When students are able to sit with their friends and have a good time, theyll come back. When they cant because their friend is on the other side and has no room for them, they lose interest. Personally, THATS the key issue. Given the success of our basketball program, the students SHOULD be there. I firmly believe the student seating is what kills it. Just my take on it. More on topic... OSU students were VERY unoriginal in their chants. I don't think I heard much in the way of creative and unique chants from them. They may have been louder at times, but at least our chants are original and awesome to hear. If we could get the ENTIRE hill to participate in our chants.... OH boy would that make for an electric atmosphere.
-
the DAY-O chant can only really be done with Willy and Heller. Nobody else, to my knowledge, is capable of reproducing what they can do off-the-cuff. This is why last night was the first night this year it's been done - they've graduated and aren't active members there for every game. Unfortunate, but just how the cookie crumbles. quick, cheap, and easy solution? print and hand out at every home game the words to all the chants we use that way nobody has an excuse for not knowing what we're saying short of completely disregarding it. Thats my $0.02.

PAUL HAMMOND, PAUL HAMMOND.... lol I mean, our chant about Akron scoring a goal totally warranted that talking from him... we pretty much crossed that line by about a mile lol HOWEVER.... Theres still no excuse for standing right with the core rowdies and not participating. Look at this video around 2:10 and youll see what I mean. Theres maybe 200 of us actually going crazy. The rest just stand there and "look pretty" Maybe we're asking too much of them? I realize we can't get everyone involved, but come on... if youre going to be a frontrunner, at least cheer when you should.

thats awesome to hear... slowly but surely well show people the light. The attendance record tonight showed that.

My personal take: if youre going to stand at the front of the student section, you are required to make as much noise and heckle as much as humanly possible. If not, move to the back. Let those of us who are there to support our team and uphold the Rowdie tradition show you how it's done... EITHER WAY... I hope the noise we did make was well recognized. I don't want people to say that the OSwho students were louder than us... they may have been more organized since there were fewer, but we have the potential to be obscenely LOUD. I just want to know we did well... haha. i didnt lose my voice for nothing....
-
the issue stems from the simple fact that some students have turned the game into a social event and take more pleasure and chatting with friends than participating in chants. Being one of those "core" rowdies, I can assure you we were trying to make as much noise as humanly possible, but when you have 1800 students and a minority are actually fully participating, its difficult. Ive noticed a TON of underclassmen who, understandably, don't know our chants but aren't making much attempt to make noise. I can't tell you how many times Ill be screaming my head off and look immediately to my left to see some freshman or sophomore who found their way to the front socializing with some friends instead of participating. just my $0.02 its hard to be unbiased when youre standing in the student section...

It comes as no surprise given the media coverage since the suspension. Ill have to dig for it later this week (yay for finals) but there was an article on Deadspin a while back not long after the suspension touching on this issue. -
Just happened to see this today while at work. Very interesting. But I like the look of the building http://www.uakron.edu/im/online-newsroom/n...?newsId=1895032

Got this email. It came as no surprise as I am sure most people who know the building knew it involved UA students. Just glad that those who were responsible were found and are being handled with.

2011 Schedule and New Facility Name

only if they install rubber bowl troughs.... -
it may be me, but i honestly think gallucci has become a breeding ground for thug-like students. When I lived in Exchange, it just always seemed like there was SOMETHING going on over there. That being said, it almost didnt surprise me that it happened. Do not think for one second that I dont care because I certainly do - a close friend was an RA there just last semester - I just feel like this was almost an eventuality. I just hope this was someone who gained unauthorized access to the dorm and not students who were doing this. I want to believe they weren't students but its almost impossible to rule out anything when it happens IN the dorm. Its most unfortunate that these things happen. The low-lifes that do these things are the scum of society. And to just randomly rob the next person who gets off an elevator is absolutely mind-boggling.

I don't, actually. To what area(s) are you referring? Baseball? that "coach" we have that supposedly leads a team of football (american) players. -

im hoping this money gets used to finish the facility and the money originally intended for the facility can be directed towards other areas of athletics... you know where im referring and its NOT the unicorn basketball arena. -
not sure if this has been posted elsehwere... i apologize if it has. http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...TCLID=205127144 the 2011 schedule has been released and looks beast. definitely pumped for the home matches against some quality teams. hoping for more media coverage too! on a slightly downward note, The Jack is no more. Its now called the "Cub Cadet Field".

Creation of a Supporters' Group
tbozeglav replied to RootforRoo44's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
from what i understand, the goal patrol was just a specific student group for soccer but eventually was renamed to the rowdies once that (the rowdies) became an officially recognized UA student organization. many of the core rowdies today were in the goal patrol. honestly, make sure whatever name you get is unique. ROOligans fits that. And if this takes off, it'd be nice to see this group make the west goal equally as noisy as the east goal.
