So let’s say we cut football, or drop it into Tiffin’s league. We lose the ESPNU Tuesday night payday. We lose the annual 7 digit away games against P5. We lose attendance (if that’s even possible). We eventually cut scholarships which actually cost what? I’m assuming the radio coverage is zero cost/income. We still have the Dialer. Which from everything I have heard cost less than renovating/reconstructing the Rubber Bowl. And basketball and soccer become independent or also drop. More programs are cut, since FBS football covers itself and a big chunk of the rest of the athletic department budget. I’m not saying the University won’t drop football. I don’t have a lot of faith in “management” making any competent decisions. I just don’t see the huge cost savings that a few keep preaching about...

If football goes, I might be done with my old school. A program that is not only self-sustaining, but covers a lot of the athletic dept. budget deserves better.

I’m going to watch pro football, with or without the crowd. Might be a little strange for while, until I get into the game. Then I’ll barely notice. College football, without the huge contracts a lot of the FBS programs have, rely too much on gate money to sustain. The MAC is at the governor’s and COVID’s mercy

Well you can start with the money that comes from the TV networks for coverage, esp on weeknights. Then factor in the money from bowl games. FBS buy games. Sponsorships for the team and the stadium. Ticket sales. As we’ve discussed, he’ll I can’t count that high

There's a theory going around that the gov't is doing that to all of us by reopening some stuff, the numbers go up, ICU's fill back up, and they quarantine again. Wash, rinse, and repeat until everyone is immune. And a lot of the old people are off the social security/medicare coffers...

College athletics are a convenient target right now, and a big reason for that is a LOT of the faculty is very jealous of sports. My high school was the same way. But college athletics are a drop in the bucket as far as university spending goes. It's easy to take what is budgeted, and divide that by what 450? 500? student athletes. To be honest you also need a head count of student sports fans who attend the games for recreation, and try to factor in the name recognition and publicity it brings. But you also have to consider the network TV money football brings in, the away games at FB$ stadiums, and ticket revenue. Football revenue covers a substantial part of the athletic department's budget. Imagine if the team were successful and the university had the foggiest idea about advertising and marketing it... Then we could compare that to the costs and student utilization of (for starters) the busses, the bowling alley, the pool hall, the theater, the workout facility, the rock climbing wall, the indoor pool. That's a good start. Then we can look into things like, why the University spent $22,679,000 on Quaker Square, so they could evict all of the small businesses in there. Then spend an untold amount of money converting the hotel into dorms that would only be used a couple years before they locked the doors and left it sit empty. We could go on questioning university spending all week, without even getting started on the Scar's spending. Athletics are a drop in the budget. Bucket. Something like that...

The virus is hitting Florida and Arizona hard again. That’s where the NBA is planning on playing their games, and where the MLB is planning to restart spring training. In football numerous high school, college, and pro players are testing positive. Same with NASCAR. I’m not getting my hopes up about watching team sports in the coming months.

Don’t confuse “cutting colleges” with “cutting programs”. When I graduated in 2012 my College of Nursing was merged into the “College of Health Professions” along with seven other programs. It didn’t hurt the nursing. program in fact it was expanded to Wayne College. They just cut a lot of duplicate staff off the top.

It was Dinger’s first win on an oval. He’s a heck of a road racer, won several IndyCar races. But he couldn’t catch on to the ovals. Maybe he’s finally turned the corner on ovals, so to speak.

I think this new economic reality is going to separate the haves from the have-nots even further. The programs that have had their crap together the past 25, 35, 50+ years are going to further distance themselves from the rest of the BCS. That could help Akron if they get their crap together. There's no reason we can't compete with the rest of the MAC, and the bottom half of the Big Ten and other P5 conferences. IF. For such a short word, it is huge for us.

An NFL team has what, 45, 50 players on the roster, and plays 16-20 games? Yeah they have a pool of talent to bring in as backups when they have injuries. But why do colleges need twice as many?
