I know this is tongue-in-cheek but I sense it will be a theme for many moving forward, so I'll say this and then move on: Akron was a mediocre program when Keith Dambrot took over. He and his staff built it into a consistently winning program with 3 NCAA Tournament berths along the way. When KD left, he left the program in FAR better condition than he received it. Even the biggest KD critic should be able to admit that he took the program to a higher level than it had been before. In fact, John Groce is not Akron's coach today if Dambrot didn't build it into a program with a winning reputation first. Dambrot took us as far as he could, and now I believe Groce will take us to the next level in finally getting that NCAA Tournament run. It's OK to be excited about Groce and what he's doing while still having great appreciation for 13 years of hard work KD gave us. Keith Dambrot will one day have a banner next to the one belonging to Bob Huggins in Akron. I think we can all agree on two things: #1- That banner better be hanging in a new or renovated arena, #2- It'd be perfect if John Groce fulfills what we all believe he can here to have a banner up there as well. Rant over, back to scouting awesome prospects. Go Zips!

Updated the original post. I'd expect a guard for the last spot just vacated by Dalton.

Love it! Really needed another big. -
Per Evan Daniels, the Missouri transfer is in for an official visit.
-
I should clarify - I wasn't saying Noah had decided anything.

Check the 2017-2018 thread. I'm keeping the OP updated. Antino is the only one up in the air.

Groce and Pridgen were checking out Northwest Tech workouts today. Here's their roster: http://www.ntmavericks.com/sports/mbkb/2016-17/roster

It's nice to see the Groce family on social media getting acclimated with the University of Akron. Mrs. Groce has posted a few pictures in and around Akron. Hopefully John is on the road finding us some talent though!

I mean... Didn't you do the same thing there? Listen, I was wrong to bash Dials based on what I've heard instead of my personal experience. I will always hold my opinions, but saying what I did didn't contribute to the conversation. That's why I've owned that mistake. I think we both bring good insight and that we're better than my comments on Dials and yours on Dambrot's staff. At this point, if you'd like to discuss further, feel free to message me, but I'm done discussing it here. Let's get back to constructive debate.

This is the silliest thing I've ever read on ZN, and we all know it gets ridiculous here. Congrats! I've had no personal experience with Nick. I'm basing my opinion of him as a coach on second-hand information from people I trust. I am, however, happy you've had great personal experience with him and wish him well.
-
I do have a clue about it. Maybe not ALL of the behind-the-scenes stuff at UT, but certainly about his relationship with UA's program after leaving. I also know the way UT handled letting Nick go was awful by anyone's measure and that he deserved better. I do find it curious to see some all of the sudden against being critical of coaches, but it is what it is. With all of that said, as I noted in my previous post, I'm going to pass on going further than this on the topic. Best of luck to Nick.

I didn't intend it to, although I concede I didn't make him sound favorable. I don't want Dials here and have my reasons, but I also respect he's a man trying to build a career to support his family. He's also a former Zip, of course, so you won't hear any more from me on him.
-
I'm sure he pissed them off but it had nothing to do with recruiting/losses. I'll leave it at that though, no need to bash the guy for past mistakes. Just saying - there's reasons Dials was let go by UT.
-
Not sure on the specifics but he's always been enamored by a "big" school.
-
Correct. That's not 100% but probable.
-
Robotham formally announced he is leaving. One other previously gave it some thought but that SHOULD be it.
-
I'm not sure what to say when someone bashes the former staff and proposes we add Nick Dials in the same post.

Watching the stream of the PIT with Big Dog

He can shoot for sure, although today wasn't the norm. Much more efficient for him to back down a (usually) smaller opponent and drop it in. Big Dog did great under KD. -

He was MAC POY under Dambrot so I think he did alright. -
Antino and Noah were not a good fit paired as starters. Neither one was willing to be 6th man.
-
Updated the original post to remove Noah and Hughes (that will be coming next). Only one more possible, but I think that'll be it for outgoing transfers.
-
Larry, is that you?

An update on our players in limbo: Antino - seemed likely to go a few weeks ago, but now I'd bet on him staying Dunn-Martin - Gone Hughes - Likely gone Dalton - Staying Robotham - Toughest one to figure out...depends on who you talk to There's 1 or 2 others that have given thought to leaving, but I think the list above is probably it.
