I saw him make a play at the end of the game as well that involved the football hitting the ground and ending up underneath a FIU defender. Neither QB has done anything to warrant starting. This decision rests solely on Icoach and he will take the fall when/if both fail. Why not give time to both because I believe neither has all of the skills needed to get the job done. Hell you might just confuse the defense a little and keep them guessing.

I think you are right. I had said before that we would be able to make a call after the VMI and EMU game as to whether or not progress has been made. The loss to EMU hurts and not winning 3 games this year should be enough of a body of work to make a definitive call on Icoach. JD faced a myriad of season ending injuries and player behavior issues in his last year but he still managed to win three games and be competitive in a few more. Right now we are years away from being at that level. THE TEAM IS WORSE OFF TODAY UNDER ICOACH. I will eat those words if the Zips win 4 or more games this year without getting blown out in other remaining games.

Akron Soccer Attendance - 2011
MaxZIP replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
If you took everyone that sat on the grass or stood during the game, those seats would be filled without a problem. BTW, I'm spending time on an attendance sheet for other schools as well, I've covered the top ranked schools and it appears Akron is 2nd in the nation for attendance. UCSB is 1st averaging 5,033, and Maryland is 3rd averaging 4,093. I'll post the numbers when I'm done. Of course people in GA would fill out the grandstand. Are you suggesting that the people who purchased the reserved seats are choosing to stand the whole game or sit on the grass?? The reserved seats are sold out or nearly sold out and some are choosing to not show up. That's the bottom line. The attendance is still very good. The percentage of sold seats to actual attendance is great. Much better than football. Your passion is obvious. Soccer will not be outdrawing football in paid attendance this year or the foreseeable future no matter how much you would like for that to happen. I'm not trying to sway your opinion, it appears to be set in stone. Just trying to set the record straight. I have sat/stood in the grass instead of the grandstad for games this year. It happens but this is a silly argument. Enjoy the crowd and the atmosphere. I wish it cold last forever. -
I like the quotes from fans about bad football and consolidating tailgating lots. She managed to find an endangered species in the lots...a three sport season ticket holder who still shows up to tailgate. Nice work Marla. According to the IUCN threatened species hierarchy, I'm going to say we're closer to "near threatened" than "endangered" I agree, this is a nice article. There are probably less than 200 three sport zips season ticket holders in the wild. I believe that should put them at at least endangered status. I married an Akron zip woman does that count as a captive breeding program?

Who said that?? Oh yea...YOU. So I am to assume that is your OPINION as I looked it up in the the dictionary and even Googled it and nothing like that came back. Please send me the link if I am mistaken. Wow. I thought we plays to win. I thought we practiced to win. I thought coaches are brought in to win. Apparently my opinion is bunk.

114. EASTERN MICHIGAN (3-2) The buzz: Why is a team with three wins ranked this low? Two of the wins have come against FCS foes and the other against Akron, which, right now, is the equivalent of a FCS foe. Next game: Saturday at Toledo Ouch

As I've said before, if this so-called "phantom attendance" was an acceptable practice, EMU wouldn't be reporting 5,000 average attendance for football. Were you there? Maybe they double not triple their real numbers. It is pretty slim up in Michigan as well.
-
In addition to what I've posted on here before, about student attendance being couinted as "paid" because it's part of their fees, I have also since found out that there are many other requirements to qualifying your attendance, including audits. They aren't "made up" numbers. Bobby, I know you were hoping that soccer would reach an average near 5,000 this year. I was pulling for you. But as I said, the problem in reaching that average was going to be that there would be low games. With 4,300 and 2,300 at the last two home games, you will likely fall way short of that mark. I think your estimates showed that you would predict 5,100 and 4,500 at those two games just to give us a chance at a 4,500 average. Falling 3,000 short of your estimates in those two games combined is just an incredible shortfall to make up in soccer. Maybe a number in the 3.500 to 4,000 range might still be attainable? I don't know. Remember, season ticket holders in soccer that do not show up are also counted. And there are companies that buy tickets that don't get used, same as football. No butt is seat=all that matters. I believe this thread was started in response to posters talking about attendance being a good indicator of general fan interest. All of the phantom fans in the world will not add up to a single zip fan in the seats. Just want to let everybody know here how bad the situation is not to question their counting methodology. Fan interest is at an all time low. 12,ooo invisible people or not the program is suffering and bleeding money. How much longer can this go on? Not calling for the Icoach's head or anything. But LP might as well light stacks of money on Saturdays and save the trouble of having parking attendants watching empty lots, 10-15 police directing traffic, and overzealous ushers scolding people for standing in the wrong place (despite the fact that they are only blocking the egress and view of phantom fans). Akron is not a national TV draw for sure so actual attendance is the only way we have to gauge fan interest. Continue defending systematic "overestimating" as not being made up figures. It is all fine and good but don't be shocked to see huge red numbers on the balance sheet and empty seats on TV while we are middle of the pack in the MAC attendance figures.

Bobby, you need go back to North and learn how to count. Was there 14000 no, but there was about 10000. The stadium fits 29,000, about 14,500 per side. The visitors side was around 20% (2,900) occupied and the home side around 40% 5,800 which is 8,700. No way they were anywhere near the 14,257. Were you there gmann? This pic was during a break in play in the first quarter. I know it doesn't matter and I am officially done commenting on this topic because why call attention to something that is an sore spot and not productive conversation.

Second round of conference expansion is beginning.
MaxZIP replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
The OVC caled today and told Icoach that Akron would need to win more games to earn an invite. I think they are bluffing and we have a shot based on the performance of soccer and basketball teams.EDIT:The OVC does not have soccer. We need to win more football games...darn it. -
Is the VMI game the last straw for Ianello?
MaxZIP replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips Football
They outscored GW at times last year as well. We got muscled-up by them at times as well. Also VMI will not be giving 15 yard cushions playing prevent D. -
I have been saying the same thing. The UC game almost does not matter= I am expecting to get trounced. The recovery has to begin by beating VMI, getting some confidence and then taking care of EMU. Get those 2 wins and get some momentum and let the kids see some level of success and the FIU game becomes one where MAYBE we can get something good rolling.Said it after OSU game...Ianallo has 5 weeks for me to not become another member to completely turn against him. Temple game was WORSE than I thought, but I am sticking to my 5 weeks. My mindset is right there with yours. Development HAS to become apparent on Saturdays at some point soon. My biggest area of concern is the offensive line. Pughsley (sp?) has been out all year, Straight is questionable for Saturday and the guys who have played have struggled in the 1st 2 games. Hopefully, some of those guys will get healthy and the unit as a whole will start to improve. Otherwise, it's hard to envision even a slight turnaround occuring this season.I sit right behind the bench. Wasn't Pugsley only in on special teams plays last year. He was on the three man punt protection wall and that is as I remember from last season. I don't think the season was by any means resting on his shoulders.

A building process w/o progress is failure. Are we supposed to believe that the stars will align and poof we have a good team? Or should we expect to see growth over time (1-2 years should show a positive trend)?
-
This is after game 14 not 2 for Ianello. I think we will know after the EMU slug fest (game 5) if there is any hope. We must beat VMI and EMU...no excuses! 1-4 or 0-5 is not good enough.
-
How would you rate our building process and project those thoughts into post 2012?We have torn whatever structure previously existed to the ground, but there is no visible evidence of any building yet. We're still sitting at rock bottom.According to Icoach he is laying the foundation extra special with no cracks. When will we get out of the subbasement? Seems like we have years to go until we can be on the ground floor.

1,000-1,500 season tickets (more than generous)2,000 single game tickets1,000 Students (Generous)=4,000-4,500plus 2,000 tickets possibly given to sponsors and your have max 6,500. I just don't see how over 15,000 ticekts were sold to this game. Hell if they can sell that many to this team more power to them. They are making numbers up at this point because they will have a hard time doing it at the end of the season when 500 people are in the stands. Expect a number right around 14,500 for the VMI game.Max, as far as I know, there's some very strict rules as to what you can count as "paid attendance", which would not include tickets that are given away. If the only thing schools had to do was inflate their numbers, without any standards, restrictions or penalties, then nobody would ever have a problem reaching the minimum attendance mark required, right? And since EMU reports attendance around 5,000, I would guess that inflating your numbers isn't an advisable thing to try to do.Remember, many large companies in the area purchase large blocks of tickets to Akron sporting events. Heck, I even know owners of small businesses who buy groups of tickets to several sports, and often do not use them, or are unable to give them away to people who might use them. And those still count, even if they don't show up. When a family of 4 buys tickets, but little Johnny gets sick and they don't show up, those count as well. It's no secret. Football did this on a very large scale back in 1985 to get our attendance to the level needed to jump to D-1A.Still no way were 15,000+ tockets sold.

Looks good on paper but most >80% of the students who attend these schools are comuters. I know he has target a 30 mile radius but that is a long way to travel often. Location and access are key. I agree that much of the savings could be accomplished through combining contracts for energy, supplies, and services. no need to get all comunist on the system and dictate who can have what majors.

There were many drops last year as well. Didn't see much difference in the passing game. The bench was in the game for exactly 6 min. I was 8 rows back and they were all sleeping. At least they were not joking around this year while down big. The D coordinator was taking care of making sure the defense was at least paying attention. The kicking game is better at what 50%? That is sad. Penalties were out of control and the play calling stil suspect and lame.
