  1. The Athletic Department may lack in this area but UA Leadership as a whole has shown to be very proactive. Proenza will not let the football team continue to fail without getting involved. Dr. P wants increased revenue, improved student experience/environment, and exposure from the football program. They have a long way to go and ICOACH and TW are only temporary custodians of failure.
  2. Good MAC programs have prospects commit early so they don't end up playing for teams like Akron when the music stops. I am concerned and this is all that matters. ESPN Link When will Icoach break the seal. We have schollys to burn and the other MAC teams are not "going fat early".
  3. Can he get "cut" in the NBA?
  4. Not sure what you mean by this. Speas is from Stow; so, he has spent a lot more than 2 years in the Akron area. He spent a whole bunch of time in the College Cup here as well.
  5. I watched the Jamaica game at KOB's with the Outlaws. It was my first experience and I had a great time. I believe they are going to be gathering again tonight. I like to welcome Ando to AO Akron! It was great meeting you and thanks for coming out to both you and MaxZIP! Signed up 3 others, 49 Total AO Akron Members! Great atmosphere. This Saturday vs Mexico at Kevin OBryans Pub is going to be nuts! Can't wait! Ando, have fun in Chicago. Here is the pub where AO Chicago gets together if you're in the area during USA v Mexico - AO Chicago - Small Bar MaxZIP, you can't tell me next match anymore. AO Akron #50 has your name all over it The $1 domestic bottles and $9 16ounce strip really hit the spot. Thanks for having me out I'll take number 50.

  7. Really slow loading. Looks nice when it does eventually finish.
  8. 300 new grandstand seats will be great. How many chair back and and box seats are there now?
  9. The article says a former business partner is lookin to open the restaurant. They very well may have the right to open a restaurant bearing the name. I wonder if it the partner who ran the restaurant in fairlawn.
  10. It ain't bad but it's not worth the $5 a pint most places charge for it. I believe the restaurant is in stow
  11. Of course they are not the problem. The coach is.
  12. They have about 4 42-47 inch displays. Not bad but not great.
  13. So who is going to be in the seats. I tell hundreds of people about zips events and sports year round. You need to get a fanbase to hold corporate support. No fans no sponsorship. The golf outing addresses the most hardcore fans. The fans that will go out and sell other or at least keep pushing the university. Will all of the seats be full of scrub wearing zips fans? The sponsorships will go away in 5 years if there is not a much larger fan ass than currently exists. Summa and imfocision didn't pay millions to be on Sto 5 times a year and reinforce their brand to 800 workhorse. Fans are important. The golf outing hits the top 5% of football fans.
  14. College baseball is huge in the south. Crowds of 1000+ are fairly common. Check out the top 50 for average attendance last year. How many in the top 20 have a MLB team and a AA affiliate in town or within 35 miles? Most of the teams on that's list are the only baseball outlet in town. Also, Can't has a lock on mediocre MAC baseball talent and fans in the area. Best case Akron becomes as good as Can't . Worst case money is wasted. Do you have Mac attendance records?
  15. Or find a young coach and give him a chance. Hope the team gets better and save the money for a basketball or soccer. There is too much competition in Akron and Cleveland for baseball to draw. Are there any teams in the NCAA that draw significant fans?
  16. Nicer football stadium -> better recruits -> better team -> more hype -> higher attendance, etc. This logic didn't work for football. In terms of basketball, we are already getting better recruits and have a much more talented team than in the past. In order to generate better hype, they need to do a better job of winning more ooc games and against some major programs. Everything can't be about a yearly "building process" leading to the MAC Tournament. The team needs to be ready to play on day one. Like I always say, there are games to be won and tickets to be sold in December just like there are in March. If they can't do this, then they won't fill the JAR and don't deserve anything other than the JAR. Renovating the Rubber bowl would have cost 20 million. Sponsorship and premium seat sales have brought in 20-30 million more. I doubt a renovated Rubber Bowl would have generated that type of revenue, lasted as long as the brand new Info, and sure wouldn’t have been the on campus stadium most fans desired. Bottom line is that short term struggles are not enough to declare the new stadium investment a loss. Also, funding for a new arena could be raised if there were enough support. I understand the basketball team is winning (and I love the team) but the football team was on the upswing when planning began for the football stadium. It will be just another case of if you build it they will come and attendance at bball games has not been great. The Basketball vs. football struggle for resources will never end. Why didn’t the football team get a new stadium 25 years ago when the JAR was built? I agree something needs to be done to the JAR to eliminate the track and add more chair back seating. I only missed 2 home games last year and my back is killing me from those damn high school bleachers. I am sure the AD and Buchtel Hall have done some market research and are considering what a new arena would bring vs renovating the JAR. The new landscape for learning has been a success thus far and I trust them to make the right decision when the time is right.
  17. "The Tar Heels will then fly home after the game on Friday night so that they will be able to open UNC Asheville's new arena on Sunday, Nov. 13." Now that is nice of them. Before anybody starts the arena talk...Kimmel is a 3500 seat multi-purpose venue.
  18. +1. I put a group outing together for last year's Northern Illinois game. I was humiliated. I'm not subjecting any more casual fans to Zips' football until they become somewhat respectable/competitive. I was completely embarrassed and felt so sorry for the folks that trusted me with their time & $$$ for a fun family night. I'll still be there - every game - of course. But I'm only going with my closest friends. I am glad you consider us fellow ZNO members friends
  19. I am embarrassed to even invite people to the games this year. I only renewed 2 of my four season tickets because I am tired of having to make excuses for lousy football week in and out to friends and family. IT IS EMBARASSING TO TAKE PEOPLE TO FOOTBALL GAMES . I can’t even sell going to the bars or tailgating. A .500 record would help immensely by removing the 500 pound elephant from Infocision Stadium, Summa Field.
  20. If the Zips start winning, Ianello's biggest detractors will be riding on the bandwagon as if they'd been there all along. I'd like to see if anyone continues to crusade for dumping Ianello if the Zips start winning. But the main thing I want to see is the Zips winning, whoever the coach may happen to be. I agree that we need to support him even though he's a tad bit arrogant and might need to work on his people skills. It is what it is... I have never called for icoach's firing. They still need to win. They still need to reach the fan base. One letter or one party is not good enough. Act like a d1 program first and worry about BS later. Win the damn games.
  21. Then again maybe I am not
  22. So now that you have an invite to this party we all should give the Athletic Department a break? I think it smacks of elitisms just as much as kicking “normal” fans out of lot 9 to clear way for the $5,000+ donor stampede. Call me when they do anything for the majority of their fan base. The biggest gesture they could make to convince me would be to win some damn games. You said/typed it yourself…We have been giving the Athletic Department and Football Coaching staff a hard time. Maybe members of this board should be careful they are not being lured into a trap. The best idea to come out of the Marketing Department in years might be to eliminate their main detractors. They may have learned something from a recent vicious murder in Florida. Just a warning.
