  5. fine...i thought it could use as a joke that people are uptight right now that we're the only university going for a national title this fall(other than Mt. Union) in Ohio...but you know, if ur going to take it like that, and make me an outsider, i'm done on here...I'll be back on in the summer... It's not like other people have done that in other threads, but for some reason ur all out to get me...so fine...im done here...
  6. I guess I'll come out of the closet... ...I have experience with "mascots"... I was the "soccerhead" this year within the rowdies and got a lot of compliments, strange looks, etc. BUT THIS IS UNBELIEVEABLE!!!!!! HOW BAD DOES THE UNIVERSITY LOOK WHEN ESPN ASKS WHERE THE MASCOT IS WHEN THE OTHER 3 ARE THERE!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
  7. Zippy can not make it to Santa Barbara...one of my Zippy friends told me that UA said there wasn't enough in the budget for the mascot to go. But they're using Zippy's twitter page...typical UA...if u want to know more about this Z.I.P., let me know...
  8. fine...ill edit it ...i just thought it was real funny...i hate OSwho... their fans are #$##@$#$$#$#@@$...i thought everyone could use it as a laugh...guess not...whatever...i didn;t know where to post this...and by the way, this is the first time i posted something of OSwho on here... I'll edit this post and the other if it hurts you that much....
  9. I thought to throw this out there...looks like some tension down in Cowlumbus Someone's status that i graduated with in high school that goes to OSU, --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- she said "Only thing keeping me from california is 2 days and 2 finals" I said "california for what? watching the Akron Zips win a national title?" she said "there is more to life than your college's soccer team...so no" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- a little uptight that OSU isn't playing for a national title i guess?
  10. I'm going to head to my friend's house friday night at about 7pm...we'll play FIFA, eat pizza, chips, and drink pop while waiting for the start of the game...Better than not knowing what ur getting at the Barley House or the Tap House...this is what i found on facebook on what the tap house has planned: Tap House: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=1728...090&index=1
  11. To be fair, the game wasn't their fault. I was there as well and that game their cable provider dropped the ball. I was there as well...Texas A&M game...FSN Southwest dropped it due to lack of attendance...the owner actually told the cable provifder off...i can;t say it on here what he said since ZN.O is a family friendly site...
  12. u think there's any way that that video willl be on youtube or something? the new one they showed tonight at the send off party after the "This is Akron" one...i want to plaster that on to my facebook, and brag it to all my friends in my hometown to see if they want to come up to akron friday night for a big atmosphere...
  13. I can't go Friday since I have to coach a high school basketball game on Saturday at 7:30pm. But, if we make it to the national championship game, I might be able to go, if I can get some one to help me get there, or go with...
  14. but expecting them to stop wearing OSwho crap to Akron games/events, is perfectly reasonable. +1. When this happens, the Rowdies should ridicule the guilty person with chants to the point of utter humiliation. Perhaps that would curtail it from happening again. Yeah, because then they'd want to come to another game for sure... Who cares what they wear? They are a PAYING customer who, on that night, made the decision to go to an Akron Zips game over other forms of entertainment. If they have a good game experience, they'll probably come back. If they're ridiculed for wearing a shirt of a school that isn't a rival, isn't in our conference, and never plays us because some of our fans have an inferiority complex with Ohio State, they will probably say screw it and go to the movies next time. When we start selling out games, you can start being concerned with what fans wear. If it's not graphic or vulgar, who cares? Good God...it's no surprise our fan base (especially student fan base) has trouble growing with short-sighted, ignorant attitudes like this. Our fan base has trouble growing because of the short-sightedness of allowing people to think they can get away with wearing the colors of a school we actively compete against for recruits and TV time. How can you be taken seriously when nobody cares that half the fans are wearing the gear of another team and not the one they're watching? Complacency kills. You are on to something here. I have always felt that there are too many people attending Akron sporting events that should not be allowed to attend. Something must be done about this problem before it goes any further. You are brilliant. I'm going to try once more to get some points across... Attendance - Akron was 6th in the conference last year. For this program to grow, more people need to go to games. Publicly ridiculing people who wear OSU gear (or anything else you may not like) to a game will not increase attendance. The irony is that growing the fan base is essential to reaching the goal you (and I) want to reach - Akron being on the same level as Ohio State as far as basketball programs go. If you're going to alienate fans, get used to 2,800 at the JAR every night, which hurts the program going forward. Recruiting vs. OSU - We very rarely compete with Ohio State for recruits, unless I missed Jared Sullinger's visit to campus. Take a look at OSU's recruiting targets for the next three years (http://ohiostate.scout.com/a.z?s=145&p=9&cfg=bb&c=4&yr=2010). ZERO of them have Akron listed as a school of interest. Aside from a rare case, we just don't go after the same players at this point in time. Competing with OSU - Different conferences...never play each other in the regular season...the only time we'd see them is the NCAA Tournament. Aside from a very rare occurrence, we don't and won't directly compete with OSU on the court. Look, I'm a die-hard UA sports fan, but anyone who thinks our program is on the same level as theirs right now is delusional. That's not to say we can't get to that point. But for that to happen, increasing attendance and expanding the fan base is a must. Simply put, to get this program to the next level, we need more fans...and if you're pushing them away because you can't get over them waring an OSU shirt to a game, you're hurting the program. Let them have a good time at the game and enjoy our wonderful basketball team in action, and I won't just guarantee that they'll come back, I'll also guarantee that they'll eventually trade in their scarlet and gray shirt for a blue and gold one. The fan base will grow, which helps the program grow, which helps Akron eventually become a major college basketball program. Or you can be petty and childish, ridicule these people, push them away, and we can keep the status quo. Up to you Zips fans... It's common sense....You are going to an AKRON game...find something blue or gold even if you don't have anything with "Akron" or "Zips" or anything like that embroidered/printed on it...It's like wearing a shirt or hoodie of a different high school to ur own high school....it's common sense...
  15. Indiana on game(last post on page 17 starts the talk) http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread....775&page=17
  16. The point is to FORCE the students to sit in one area. How many students are scattered throughout the GA section that could be packed together? How many of those students don't cheer because of the oppressive atmosphere created by the old folks who yell at them to sit down and stop being so noisy? I'm going to sound like a prick here, but I'm going to be honest...a lot of students don't want to be associated with the AK-Rowdies. Many choose to sit up top, and it's not because they don't like the view from the current student seats. Then they shouldn't pay the ten bucks. As soon as they do that, and they get the t-shirt, they are associated with the Rowdies...there are about 2,000 students in organization...about 85-90% of them pay the 10 bucks just to get the t-shirt...this problem has been going on for a while...I see students at Akron events talking about Ohio State, and Auburn, and many more like we don't have an athletic department and acting like we're just some community college...I see so many OSU memorabilia around and other colleges' memorabilia on campus, and it makes me I told some UA students that I hope OSU loses to Michigan and they're like...."why? they represent ohio? u HAVE to like OSU?" I said back to them..."Actually, OU is the representative university of ohio since Ohio is not "Ohio STATE"...the state is just "ohio" I feel like I keep repeating my self in conversations to hear...
  17. I'm just wondering why our best game so far(excluding Millikin), was ON THE ROAD at Dayton...and our 2 games so far that we haven't played well was HOME vs Youngstown State and Cleveland State
  18. We're not saying that you have to do the same things the Rowdies are doing...but at least stand up and clap or do something...it's awefully sad when CSU fans were louder than our fans the whole game.... I'm sorry...but what happened to standing up until we make a basket? that's all I'm saying for now until this argument continues...alumni bashing on students, and vice versa... I wouldn't of cared if we would of won or not, I still would of posted this...and why did it take until McClannahan's buzzer beater to send the YSU game to OT for you fans to stand up? Just asking, because I got a text from a couple coaches on the coaching staff I'm on, and one went to Mercyhurst and the other went to WVU...and they asked why was it so quiet against YSU...they were there...and they said that if they had the choice, they would of been standing for the last 2 minutes of that game...they said it was too intense...
  19. A lot of the Rowdies want to yell and cheer and everything, but the problem is that the "outsider" rowdies don't want to do that and just watch the game so they sit in the wooden bleachers above....they get away with it at soccer, because there is so many...thats the problem...we saw that last sunday, because the noisemakers made almost all the noise. Now we can use them, and we realize that most of them don't care... I'm not even wearing the soccer head this sunday like I usually would....It's off for this sunday to yell at the goalie, and cheer as much as I can...
  20. When I would coach( or even back when i played organized ball), the opposing team would be up by anywhere from 8-20 points and we would call a timeout and then tell them what they need to do...and you know what happened on the way back out to the court...THE FANS MADE NOISE TO GET THEM GOING...about 7 out of 10 times, we came back and made it a game...we didn't win those 7 out of 10 times, but we made it a game with the noise even though being down by anywhere of 10-20...Tonight when we were down by 12 or more, and if it wasn;t for the band, we would of been able to hear the players in the huddle...heck...i think we did after the band stopped for the start of play. It's sad when i heard the same amount of noise as the women's basketball game on sunday. It did. Plain and simple. So let me get this straight...you all say it's because the team plays awful and you should wait for a better producy on the floor? the roblem is....THAT'S THE MOMENT WHEN THE TEAM NEEDS YOU THE MOST!!!!!! I KNOW FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE!!!!! Also, no more talk about the 80's and 90's...im a traditionalist, so obviously the whole LBJ teaming up in Miami did not follow suit for my philosophies; however, this is a new generation and things change from generation to generation...
  21. The street is 2 ways, but it starts with the fans...teams that go on the road LOVE it when the crowd is quiet...why do you think that CSU was making most of their shots in the second half...and it`s hard for a team to be motivated from the beginning WHICH WILL CHANGE THEIR ATTITUDE AND THE WAY THEY PLAY THE GAME...Defense is all effort and hustle...which means they need motivated...i know that since im on a high school coaching staff for basketball this year... Football is going for perfection of losing, Men`s basketball is always going to stay the same, and the only sport that has gone to the next level is soccer. The fans that show up for soccer are loud and are knowledgable on when to cheer/yell/shout...what does basketball and football have in common, but not soccer? this exactly... Is this a coincidence? u tell me...
  22. There was a minute and a half left in the game, we have ball...the rowdies try chanting "stand up"... no one did it...we miss the shot, and then CSU scores... Some of you think that the soccer and basketball teams aren`t playing with a killer instinct...i wonder why...they have NO motivation because fans like we had in the reserved sections DID NOT stand up for the most important/crucial part of the game...this was on STO and the fans did not do their part....if this keeps happening, Can't will beat us twice again this year and so will ohio...and soccer will lose this weekend to Indiana... Sure, Dambrot will say in the postgame that the atmosphere is great...but he HAS to say that...or you fans will boycott and not come... If the atmosphere never changes, by doing the simple things to keep this team motivated, then all this program will be is what it is now...
  23. As a student at UA, unfortunately, I can't make it to many games because they play the same days basically as high school girls basketball and I'm on a coaching staff at one of the local high schools. I did watch them last sunday, and I feel this team will be good, as long as the youth can find ways to win on the road...
  24. Yeah.....I don't know any other coach in the nation that would buy 500 student tickets out of their own pocket(that's $2500)...oh yeah...and buying 30 boxes of pizza last sunday for the students and this sunday as well.
