W. Soccer exhibition game at the new stadium
mes102 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Zach and company, How would you rate the goalkeepers? I read they played a half each. Does freshman Alex Luevano have a chance to unseat the veteran keeper? No...Jeny Wolbert is still going to hold on to that seat...Pfau has a lot of faith in Wolbert...Luevano had a nice save on a free kick that was a difficult shot to stop, but did a nice job...I would still give it to Jeny Wolbert...I think he wants to give the backup GK some good experience when it comes to say an injury, or lack of play...but I don't look into it like that...just getting her feet wet...I heard from Zach that Alex Luevano will have a couple of her defenders coming in next year's class...so the communication will be there so next year might be more of a possibility... -

Yes this will be good, almost a Spring Game II. Anyone attending this scrimmage who attended the Spring Game, please give a progress update. I wonder if they will have any kid friendly stuff this year ala the Open House last year? My daughter had a blast in the inflatable obstacle course. I'll do that...i was at the spring football game...i will be going to this and will let people know what I think each position group has progressed since the spring game....

That may not be entirely current, knowing how gozips.com keeps things up-to-date. The Rowdies have recently opened their own website, http://www.akrowdies.org Sign-ups will be held on Welcome Weekend, August 21st and 22nd. As a commuter I won't be on campus that weekend. Will they also have sign ups during the opening week? I heard something about they will be in Student Union tuesday and wednesday also...I don't know if that would be the 24th and 25th or not...

2020 Cleveland or 2022 Cleveland? if they don't get it, I meant 2020 as Olympics and 2022 as World Cup

What I meant was the fact of not attendance, but the "buzz" of the city of Akron...I have to admit, i set myself up for a No answer because it will be always bad football before great soccer for attendance numbers... I just can't get going with bad football...If I had a choice to work on a day of a football game, or a soccer game, I'll work on the day that the game will be less entertaining, and what i mean by entertaining, is by which game will we have the best shot to win... Why should I watch 2 hours of bad football like I did last year when I could of been working?

Last year we saw the Men's Soccer team go to the National Championship. We saw the Women's Soccer team win the MAC East and host a MAC playoff game for the first time. We have all heard that Caleb Porter has said that this is his deepest team YET. And now, I just saw a comment on facebook regarding someone saying about how they are excited for this fall(actually said Aug. 13th scrimmage), and then UA's women's soccer GK made a comment on there: " yay! you and and the whole lot of you better be there... oh and just a little side note.. we're winning the MAC this year..im just saying" We could have the women's program in the NCAA tourney, and also the men's program in the College Cup this year...would that start making it more of a basketball/soccer city than a football/basketball city... The more I think of it, Mack did a great job making sure that the women's athletics were startign to be relevant again to this university... All I have to say is... AND

I voted for EMU...then, I would move BGSU to MAC West so that they can play their rivals Toledo twice a year like we do with Can't State...Third, I would ask Temple to move permanently to the MAC East. If not, these are schools I would put in place by location and level of play in all aspects of their athletics: 1) Temple 2) Marshall University 3) Cleveland State, with Temple staying as football only 4) College of Charleston, with Temple staying as football only 5) Niagara, with Temple staying as football only 6) Western Kentucky, with Temple staying as football only What's your thoughts on this list? Feel free to tear it apart...

An objective look at Ohio's FBS Football Teams
mes102 replied to ksu sucks's topic in Akron Zips Football
You make valid points. But...just because a teams football program drops to Div 1A (or FCS) does not mean all other programs must follow. Dayton went through the same process and the BB team remains Div 1. Also...Dayton's football program gained support after they dropped down. Without any bias...I think some of the MAC schools would benefit dropping to FCS. It may even serve the MAC to facilitate the transition by creating a FCS division. They could then ad many new schools that would love being associated with the MAC. It may require going to 20 schools for other programs. Just a thought... They have a national championship 16 team playoff also...and all the playoff games are on television also...can win a national championship unlike in the FBS...and if all people care about is a winning team and making it far in playoffs, maybe attendance will go up for the Joe Akron? -
Boise State is going to announce today that they will be moving to the Mountain West Conference...

It was all about LeBron...short 5 minute conversation....talked about how LeBron will be going to wherever he can win a chanpionship right away. He did mention that Akron is his hometown, and not Cleveland, so at least that's out there...

+1 With Abreu and Ennis in the backcourt should be very entertaining. Then you add on Michael Green, Josh Egner, and some of the other recruits, we should be looking at some entertaining basketball in the near future. I can just imagine Diggs, Egner, Abreu, Ennis, and Euton on a fast break...
