8/20/13 Men's Soccer exhibition vs. Marshall

Najem subbed off after his second goal. I was really, really impressed by both he and Souto. Both of them were great, with Najem turning in a man of the match performance. He had two goals, an assist and I'm not 100% positive, but I think he set up the first goal with a perfect through ball to Saad who assisted Quinn from the touchline. The way the two freshmen combined in the midfield would have made you think they've played together for years. -
Would love Zeke to go to the Spurs! Don't forget though, they cut Danny Green too.

2013 Zips in the MLS, NASL, USLPro Thread
jem101 replied to Crew8's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Nice article on Aodhan Quinn's development via the Sounders U23 site. The one thing that jumped out at me, is did any of you guys realize that Aodhan's dad was an MLS coach? In fact, he actually coached San Jose when they drafted a midfielder by the name of Caleb Porter. You all might be familiar with him. I was blown away by this. How have I never heard of that? -
From what I was finding online a couple days ago, it looks like he would have been going pro if it wasn't for injuries. Sorry. don't have the links in front of me. I'm excited to see what he can do!

Caleb's Porterland Timbers FC

That brought tears to my eyes. What an incredible move by Porter, the Timbers organization and especially the fans. OUTSTANDING! -
My cousin goes to a small Baptist college near Dayton called Cedarville. They had Owl City perform 1.5 years ago when he was somewhat popular after his one hit song. This just screams small school mentality.
-
Starting lineup is Betancourt, Gilliam, Kretzer, Treadwell and Marshall
-
According to Zack Jackson's twitter, Walsh and Pat both on the floor for warmups.
-
No way that Walsh starts on the bench. Way too smart of a basketball player and that's what you need against Havoc. I'm expecting the same lineup as this past weekend.

MAC Championship - Behind the Scenes Documentary

I love this team. I started following the Zips in 2009 when I came to Akron, and I never could have expected the sports memories. There's something special about knowing that's your school. It's something that rooting for OSWho never accomplished for me in my time prior to becoming a Zip. I have so much pride in MY school. -
Was watching the game again today. There was one point where he got past Tree and instead of driving to the rim, he pulled up for an off balance jump shot. The announcer said, "Baltic inexplicably pulls up for the shot" or something to that effect. Unbelievable from a big man. On a side note, Baltic came back onto the floor to shake hands with some Zips after we cut down the nets. Very classy move by him.

THIS! First year out of college. If the Zips play an early afternoon game, it'll be torture.

Leaving the arena Friday, I was disappointed, but after thinking about it it would have taken a miracle to win that game. To lose your floor general 24 hours prior in a shocking manner is nearly impossible to overcome. I think with a week of practice and preparation under their belts, they will be fine. Will they win the tourney? I'm not sure, but I expect the offensive effort to be much better this Friday. I think defense is the key. If we see a defensive effort like we saw in the second half against Can't State, we'll be fine.
-
Fans were outstanding in the second half last night (I think shellshocked in the first). On their feet when the Zips were down 13. Can't ask much more than that. We were trying to will this team back, but the hole was just too deep.
-
If they came out in the second half and played like they did in the first, I would be gutted right now. As it stands though, there were a lot of positives. I think with a week to prep for the tourney, this team is still capable to win it. Tree was an absolute freak in the second half and it seemed that he was singlehandedly trying to will the Zips to victory with the countless offensive rebounds in the early 2nd half. I love the motor on him. Also liked what I saw out of Chauncey. With Melo at the point, I wouldn't mind seeing Chauncey getting the start over Harney to add more shooters on the floor.

Never been so mad at a college athlete before. What a selfish, selfish move... :puke:

I really hope someone gets this... Go Zips!

Just started my first job out of school two weeks ago. Something tells me asking for time off this soon might not be a good idea. I'll be cheering from Akron though!
-
I completely agree. He consistently outmaneuvers defenders in order to get great looks, he just needs to get better at finishing.

Was visiting family in Greenville, SC last week and had a couple really good beers. The first was a Bell's Hopslam. For hopheads like me it is an outstanding beer. The other was a Highland Cold Mountain Winter Ale that was incredible. It's a regional brewery in the NC area and it was incredible. If you're ever in the area in the winter months I'd definitely recommend it!

Don't think this one has been posted yet. Yahoo's Pat Forde wrote an article about NCAA hoops and one section was devoted to teams that could go undefeated in their conference. Check out what he has to say at Yahoo. Edit: It's point 31/40 so you have to read down quite a bit.

Here's an ESPN Insider story from Miles Simon. Fortunately, the section in the article that discusses the Zips is part of the article preview.
