Gosh. Bowden got a free pass for his 1-11 season. What u got against Sonny?
-
Everyone acts like we can't get another coach if we fire Bowden. Everyone wants a name. Here's a name. Sonny Dykes.

Ding ding ding. I don't stand for the National Anthem at a movie or concert.

Again, here we have another culture war situation. . . The NFL can crack down on the National Anthem controversy if they want to but they don't want to touch it with a ten foot pole because they are scared to death of the social implications. The league has no problem restricting players freedom of expression after touchdowns, sacks, hard hits, etc. They have deemed excessive celebration detrimental to the game. Excessive celebration is not nearly as damaging to the league as this National Anthem deal. The NFL needs to wake up quick. When people unplug, they tend not to come back. Ask Brian France.

President Wilson makes his rounds through the tailgaters every home game with his wife and kids. They actually take the time to engage in some meaningful conversation with the fans. Last game, they came into the southwest corner of Lot 9 off the Exchange Street sidewalk as some folks were throwing the football back and forth. He immediately started jogging across the lot with his arm extended asking for a pass. He grabbed the ball spun around and fired it back across the lot. It's hard not to like this guy. So far, he seems great.

It is pretty horrifying.

You had to ask didn't you???

That pic made me instantly think of another undersized 57 that could play. . .

I can't remember if I have ever shared the link before, but there is a Facebook page called Akron Rubber Bowl Memories that has some fantastic images posted. Check it out. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1467742330193691/?fref=nf

Skip, We live in a strange time right now. On one hand, I think you have a pc culture gone crazy and in the other hand you have a resistance movement being non-pc for the sake of being non-pc. The pc agenda has seeped into every aspect of our society. Everything is offensive to somebody somewhere. It is quasi-censorship. It used to be that the left said "I may not agree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it". No one is saying that anymore. Polarized America wants to silence opposing views. It is the opposite of the tolerance doctrine that is preached to us everyday. Strange days, indeed. Most peculiar, mama.

Ok, so let me get this straight. . . You're coming here to give us a little respite from the Bowden bashing by posting up some links which basically say ISU should have beaten our team by way more than 27 points. Thank God you're not here to bash Bowden. Your post may be the most passive aggressive post of all time. Bravo! ?????

Woodson is probably not the top area of concern for the Zips but he gets the most attention because of his position. The departure of Natson and Lane is a gaping hole to fill and there is no one on the roster that can hold a candle to those two guys. Lane's talent was really blossoming and JoJo was the biggest playmaker on offense since. . .Who? It goes back some years! We have currently whiffed on WR recruits and transfers. I have to wonder if the NC State guys would have made a difference. The story of the Zips in the Bowden years has been Jatavis Brown and the transfers that panned out. The reason why the Zips went 8-5 once is because of Jamal Marcus, Cody Grice, Rodney Coe, SeVon Pittman, Dylan Evans, Jatavis Brown and Daryl Monroe. Period. That's a 100 year storm. It's never happening again. We play in the MAC and I am not going to ever be happy until we have a balls out, tempo, score as much as you can track meet out there on the field. Bowden always saying how he wants the Zips to be known for their defense shows how out to lunch he is. You have to recruit well for defense. It's see ball, hit ball. No amount of scheming is going to make up for lack of talent. This is basic $hit!

My favorite social media poster has to be Brooks Southerland though. ??????

Some of the parental bashing is trashy but some of it is just plain sad.

Poor kid. He left Virginia because they wanted him to change positions and now he is at Akron changing positions.

While we are enjoying history class, which title of this thread did most ZN.o members like the most? "Fire Coach Bowden" "Questioning Coach Bowden" Or "Critiquing Coach Bowden" Maybe it will be renamed soon to "Remembering Coach Bowden"

Wisdom from one of the ancients.

Ok. No. You are right. Let me rephrase. There are lists of coaches that pundits are professing worthy of a shot at being a D1 head coach. Some are sitting head coaches deemed worthy to move up, some are coordinators poised for a first time HC job, some are HC guys out of the game looking to get back in. Do you think Bowden's name will appear on any of these lists if he is terminated? I think this question can't be skirted by technicality. Perhaps I am wrong because maybe if Bowden was fired he will miss the publishing deadline. It was a rhetorical question anyway. If you are fired from a MAC school you are pretty much done as a HC. Doug Martin got another D1 HC job after Kent fired him, but I can't think of another off the top of my head. Bill Cubit went to Illinois as the OC after WMU. I am a loss to even think what happened to most former MAC HCs after they are done. Ianello resurfaced in D1 again, I guess. Go figure. Bowden is just the next Akron coach who will meet the same fate as all the rest of 'em. He will be fired. Hopefully the next coach will be good enough to do what no coach before him ever did; be poached by another university for a better paying job. Here's a totally rhetorical question that doesn't require an explanation as to why it is untrue. It is for entertainment purposes only. . . Does Bowden wear a ski mask when he picks up his paycheck?
-
If Bowden was fired tomorrow is there another D1 program in the country that would want him?
-
Oh shoot. I forgot to put in my smiley. ????

Old grump checking in here to say even though you were born into the abject poverty of 1-11 Zips football you should still dream big. You may never make it into the 13-0 1 percenter lifestyle but you shouldn't be satisfied with a 5-7 dead end job even though it did get you off the street.

I played football. Loved it. If I was more athletic, I would have tried to play in college. I actually still have a recurring nightmare where I decide not to play my Senior year and beg the coach to let me join the team late after the season started. Both my nephews stopped playing football. One played through 6th grade and the other played through 8th. I tried to talk them out of it but they wanted to concentrate on baseball and basketball instead. I am afraid they will regret not playing when they grow up. So, I guess in a long-winded-beat-around-the-bush way I am saying I am an advocate of kids playing. ???
