  1. Obviously the faculty proposing this dropdown do not read this forum. It has been discussed to death. There is no going back. The Rubicon has been crossed and going back would be the first step of scuttling the program. Anyone and I mean anyone who thinks UA can automatically compete at the highest levels of FCS as a simple proposition is high on drugs or stupid. The best FCS teams play at a higher level than an average MAC team with fewer scholarships. My God. My head is going to explode.
  2. I agree 100%. The recent news stories about football attendance fall into the embarrassment category as well.
  3. I have a feeling you won't know much before they take the field in Norman. If summer practices are closed to the public as they were in the spring, the best reporters, ZN.o posters, won't be able to get the story out. Good luck getting any information from local media.
  4. More love for SS: http://www.cleveland.com/akron/index.ssf/2015/07/university_of_akron_students_f.html
  5. It hurts to see my school being gutted. I realize that some of the changes that are happening now are inevitable, but perhaps if Dr. Scarborough had done a better job handling of the whole polytechnic fiasco, there would be more support for the current moves. However, due to his bungling of the rebranding, many alumni have labeled him as a tool. I don't see that changing any time soon either. I am concerned that we have only just begun to see the very beginning of the wholesale transformation of our university and I'm afraid a lot of us aren't going to like the results.
  6. My prediction: Akron will rue this day that baseball was scrapped. As the planet continues to warm, NEO will eventually become the most conducive region for baseball while the South will actually become too warm for Spring/Summer sports. As the SEC, ACC & southern BIG XII & PAC-12 schools are forced to shutter their bb programs rather than subject players to heat stroke, Akron will once again be left woefully unprepared to fill the void.
  7. Do you think the new service will keep London Broil on the menu?
  8. FIFY
  9. I hope that everyone concerned with attendance purchased some tickets to be given away for Military Day. There's a good program to get some people in the door to be exposed to the product.
  10. I don't know about the rest of you, but I saw a number of people this weekend that I hadn't seen in some time. More than once I had to hear "what's going on with Akron football attendance?" Anybody else get asked about it?
  11. Has anyone had opportunity to ask Dr. Scarborough how tailgating its into Akron's polytechnic identity?
  12. Ok. I'll take the bet. We can't bet money on ZN.o, though. If I win, you have to come to the Ohio tailgate with a couple of friends, introduce yourself to the gang, drink my beer and eat my food. If you win, you can choose the menu and drink selection. Deal?
  13. I probably should have said linesmaker. The handicapper gives expert opinion on the line that the house provides. My bad. I would take the under on 20k. I just don't think there are that many Pitt fans that will travel. I could be wrong, but it's a very interesting bet. There have only been 3 games over 20,000 at the Info so far and I think the odds are pretty long on Pitt becoming the 4th.
  14. Are you a handicapper? That sounds like a pretty good stab at setting the over/under. I think I would take the over as well, but not by much.
  15. Word is that Dr. Scarborough is also considering scrapping our traditional fight song for this: (Never gets old for me)
  16. If anyone would like to wager some money on a Pitt attendance bet, set the over under and let's talk.
  17. Beyond ridiculous? Ahem. Maybe you didn't read this part. . . 1Emphasis mine.
  18. Infocision has been open for 6 years of football. The numbers are as follows. Draw your own conclusions. 19. The attendance numbers for BGSU are greatly exaggerated because of the tuition promotion held that night. Once the winners were selected, the students went home and you could hear the crickets. Actual attendance for the UMass game was probably around 400. No joke. The 5571 number must account for all season ticket holders plus any tickets that the University bought because I am positive there were absolutely zero walk up sales that night. The Howard game was a season opener on the Thursday leading up to Labor Day weekend. Not exactly the same as a late season shitty weather MACtion game and probably shouldn't be in this conversation. I will grant you the fact that the 3 Saturday home games were poorly attended as well and I have no excuse for that. It is what it is. But if you think that a prospective non-diehard season ticket buyer looks at a home schedule with 6 Saturday games with the same interest as 3 Saturday games and 3 weeknight games there is no use even having this discussion. It's a no-brainer and if the U hadn't lured out the students with a giveaway, the numbers would have reflected it. The poor numbers versus Marshall. EMU and Miami are a joke, no doubt about it. I can't make excuses for them. Evidently none of the 3 created much buzz for a walk up crowd.
  20. CK, I guess I should save my "attendance sucks because of weeknight games" argument until the Zips reel off about 10 consecutive trips to the MACC and attendance still sucks, because you are right. We should wait and see how winning AND I MEAN WINNIN' impacts attendance at UA because that is a variable that has never entered the attendance equation here. Hopefully winnin' means more here than it does in Dekalb. I wish the season would just start already.
  21. Lots of amusing comments following the story, but this one is the best. Until the league office wakes up and stops signing the ESPN contract for these awful weeknight games, attendance is going to suck. Although the party line spoken by the commissioner and parroted by the MAC coaches that the exposure is an invaluable recruiting tool, I call bullshit. The best FCS schools recruit at a MAC level and are hardly ever on television. That kinda shoots holes in the whole argument. What the best FCS schools have is a fan base that cares. Students, alumni and the community. Anybody remember Game Day at NDSU? I'll wager that kind of atmosphere excites a potential recruit more than seeing Akron vs. UMass on ESPN3 in front of 150 fans.
  22. Lots of Akron University representation on that page.
  23. I realize it's impossible to quantify, but having the worst attendance in all of FBS has to seriously damage the ability to recruit. It's all a big circle.
