Welcome to NE Ohio. Are you new here? We haven't had anything good happen for us since 1964, it's not changing anytime soon.
-
With talent, he has proven he CAN succeed at YSU. Yeah, YSU has more talent than Akron. Keep dreaming. They are a mediocre FCS team, they have as much talent as freaking VMI I believe the internet term for these people is a troll.

No offense to anyone, but Matt Campbell? from freaking Toledo? So we just got a rid of a no-name coach, who was supposed to be a great recruiter and was from NOTRE DAME. This guy won us 2 games. You want to hire a no-name coach, who is supposed to be a great recruiter from TOLEDO. Not a BCS school, not even a head coach, but from a freaking MAC SCHOOL TOLEDO!!! A team that wasn't even good enough to win the MAC West. Let me know how that works out! I'm sure the crowds of people running to get season tickets would be unbelievable! We're already a joke, so let's hire an assistant coach from another school that's a joke? What's next? you want the waterboy from Morgan State? I heard he's a great recruiter too.
-
This could be simplified a bit: "Rob Ianello was the worst coach ever, did nothing right and got fired. he was a no-name guy who had no experience and it completely backfired. We won 2 games, and became the biggest joke in FBS. I'm going to hire another no-name guy that will drive us even further into the ground. email me, and I will ignore them. Get ready for more awful 1-win or 0-win seasons. We will become the Blue Jackets of the NCAA. Thank you for your lack of support of Zips Athletics. I look forward to introducing you to the next joke of a football coach. Go Zips!" TW

I think when they're referring to "info" maybe it's a reference to InfoCision Stadium. Where we go to watch our 1 win football teams, then they cross the street, buy some drugs from the crackheads that makes them believe that Tressel would ever come to Akron. So ya if that's the "info" you're referring to, it's caused about over a dozen pages of hallucination.

The guy in the speedo is all you need to look at. Find the coach that wears a speedo and he's our guy. So you're saying there's a chance....... that our next coach will be Borat? Very Nice!

We're really looking at our AD's wardrobe for a clue about our next coach. It's not Fickell, since he's not wearing a wind breaker, but we now know he's staying at O$U anyway. Now the sweater vest is a Tressel signature, but did Tressel ever wear a hat? Turner Gill wears a hat, could he be headed back to the MAC? Eric Mangini has worn hats on occasion too? Tony Dungy wore hats? maybe it could be him. Not to mention he also would sport the sweater vest and is in fact bald like TW? Maybe TW has intentionally been shaving his head to appear bald, but in fact he could grow a fro if he wanted. Now when looking at the pants, it's tough. Since lots of coaches wear khakis the possibilities of this signal are endless. Don't get your hopes up ZipsNation...if this was going to happen, we would have heard something by now.

Wait until next year we will have a 6'6 PG on the floor. Who happens to have been a major major top prospect. What? The other puerto rican? I believe he is referring to Reggie McAdams whom KD has already stated he plans to play on the wing. I didn't know he was a "major major top prospect" didn't he only get a 80s ranking on ESPN?

Absorb the sanctions. What JT would bring to UA would outweigh most temporary sanctions. The loss of a handful of scholarships? I'd guess the quality of recruits JT would attract would render that harmless on the MAC level. The loss of bowl eligibility for a couple of years? Ha! We're a couple of years away from qualifying for a bowl anyhow. But how could they ban Akron from bowl games and scholarships? That's punishing a school who has zero connection to the OSU problems. The Buckeyes never got any penalties of that magnitude did they? maybe scholarships but I didn't hear anything about a bowl ban. Tressel isn't coming to Akron, but I think he's paid for it already. He lost his job, got a new job with the Colts and had to serve a suspension with them. Isn't that enough? Did the Colts get punished for hiring him? don't think so.

I was thinking somewhere around Dec 20th? There are a lot of "better" coaching opportunities out there so far (Illinois, Arizona State, Arizona, Kansas, Memphis, UAB) and not many good candidates available. Regardless of timing, they all have a better shot at landing a coach than us and thus have an advantage. Once the pieces start to fall it will become harder for us to scramble and find candidates, meaning it will take more time. The coaching carousel is like the NFL Draft, and we are the team picking 32nd. Gotta sit back and wait to see who everyone else gets, and finally end up getting the "Who's That?" signing we experienced two years ago...

I don't know, Keener. I do agree the odds are stacked against us, because every other program in the nation is also fighting for Top 25 votes. But I still think it's readily attainable here at Akron. I think a Top 25 ranking is deserving (even if deep down we'd all secretly admit that we weren't really one of the best 25 programs in the country) if we could stay undefeated into the 6th week of the season with a hypothetical schedule that included: 1) 1 FCS school to kick of the season: Gardner-Webb, VMI, Liberty, YSU. 2) 2 BCS schools along the lines of say Pitt, Duke, NC State, 'Cuse, Minnesota, etc. (We need to forget Penn State for a while.) 3) 3 MAC schools. I'd bet that, if we were 6-0, even with that weak of a schedule, we'd sneak into the Top 25. look at Houston, beating weak teams all year look at all the HC openings this year. Kansas, Illinois, Memphis, UAB, and last Akron. I feel like we'd be the least desirable school for any coach. As much as I feel for Ianello because of the timing of his firing we are about to get lost in race.

I'm not against hiring the guy, I'm against believing we actually have a chance of it. It's simply not going to happen and even Luke Fickell is a long shot. We were in this exact same spot two years ago and look how that turned out! We hired a no-name coach who drove us into the ground. So may I ask, why should I think positively about this next hire when we've had such disastrous results in recent history? I'm for all the negativity, but the ridiculous optimism on this board just ends in disappointment. Every year the predictions and optimism about our teams are about 95% wrong around ZipsNation. This years basketball team is a perfect example. Just don't get your hopes up Zips fans...

I just have a hard time believing Tressel would come to Akron. It's almost a too good to be true scenario.
-
How many goosebumps will you have if we lose to two bcs teams next year and our ooc foe, in say the first three weeks of the season next year? Short term, Faust sold tickets for UofA. Short term, Tressel will sell tickets. Long term? How fast will people turn on Tressel if the team goes 3-9 next year? 3-9 is an improvement over last year isn't it? Heck even Fickell could do that!
-
FBS is a step up from FCS. We aren't saying this, it a freaking fact! Comparing YSU to Akron is like comparing YSU to Wayne State. Completely different level.
-
Does anyone remember how long it took after JD's firing to hire Ianello? Just wondering what the time frame would be until we hear who the new coach will be, or at least hear about some interviews.
-
I agree!
-
he only thing more disappointing than our season, is who they decide to replace him. I hate to say this but I think we still have some rough waters ahead of us. With the relief we feel now that he's been let go, the disappointment we will feel when they announce the new coach will be BAD. I just don't have faith that they will make a good hire and the general public will answer the announcement with...."who?". Just like we did with Ianello, and just like us Browns fans did with Pat Shurmur. Oh NE ohio if only people cared about soccer...

Not sure how to change the topic title? I misspelled the dang thing out of excitement GOZIPS announcement
-
"Rob Ianello Will Not Return as Akron Football Coach #MACFootball" "A national search for Ianello’s replacement will be conducted immediately. #GoZips #MACFootball" This is very promising! I agree, but this is really bad form for the conference communications guy to comment on before the university has made an official announcement. Is GoZips.com official!!!!!! CHECK IT OUT HEARD IT HERE FIRST

It shouldn't even be a question of "if" this is going to happen but "when" it will happen. If TW honesty thinks it is a good idea to keep around a guy who will only win 1 game next year (if he's lucky) he would also deserve to be fired. I just don't see how anyone with a brain can think that having 100 people at our games next year will benefit the University, and how it is logical to keep a guy around who's causing this school to lose MILLIONS and MILLIONS of dollars!!
-
won't happen, he'll be under contract to coach at Akron. right after our basketball team makes the Final Four and the pigs start flying over InfoCision Stadium

Should Tom Wistrcill be fired for hiring Rob Ianello

What was wrong with Hunter Yurachek?
