It worked out well for OU with Solich, but I'm not crazy about hiring a coach whose career is in a downward trajectory. I'd rather try to catch a guy on the way up. As long as they were successful at the BCS level I think they should be considered. Hell I'd even take Butch Davis, but that would never happen either... Sad part is I think a school like Memphis has a big advantage on the lower level of coaches. As in the coaches not good enough to be a BCS HC, but not bad enough for 1-AA, if that makes any sense.

Since it worked so well the first time.... I'm trying to get excited, but really so names really give me hope. When it comes to Winters, how many casual fans would you think even know about him? Unless they followed the Zips back when he was on the team, I don't think most fans today would take that as a selling point. Not to mention the jump from D2 to FBS is quite a jump. Even FCS to FBS makes me a little nervous, unless it was a guy who won multiple championships.

Mark Mangino anyone? The guy had problems at Kansas, along with some health concerns. But I wouldn't mind him and with our facilities he'd weigh 100lbs after a week in the gym. Just don't tell him about Swensons or Barberton chicken! hah

I'd take Getsy, but LeCharles is a HUGE buckeye homer. I followed him on twitter for a little but on Saturdays it was unbearable. But he was on ESPN Cleveland so being obnoxious about OSU is something they're known for sadly. But I think our OL coach, WR coach, and DC are the most important hires we will have. The key to rebuilding this team is to focus on defense and the OL. Just give the QB, whoever that may be, time to throw and our RB's space to run. Defense keeps the opponents off the board and everything else will fall into place. I know it's harder than it looks, but hopefully we can bring in a head coach with some connections and can bring in some "steals" for assistants. Since I don't think the HC will be anyone to get excited about...

We never had a shot a Leach anyway. Plenty of BCS schools were going to give the guy a second chance. In reality there aren't any coaches I can imagine us having a chance to get that will bring excitement to the community. Of course I'd like to see Stoops, but he just left Arizona so I don't see that happening. Winters is okay, but I doubt any casual fans would even know who he is. Bowden isn't coming here Honestly a DC from a BCS school would give me a little confidence. Reason being I think a successful program begins with defense. You can air it out and score 30+ points every game, but if your defense sucks you're not going anywhere.

I'm sorry you don't take pride in the success of our soccer and basketball programs. I'm also sorry you don't think a MAC Championship for our football team means anything. I could care less about what idiots from OSUcks think of us because I have a lot of fun going to Akron soccer and basketball games. We have great atmospheres for both, and when football was winning, there's weren't bad at the Rubber Bowl either. I understand you hate seeing others get all the national attention and it makes you feel our program is insignificant. But why worry what others think? There's a lot to be proud of here in Akron and I'm sorry you don't share the same feelings. It's just depressing. I'm sorry for bashing our school, but the feeling of going to football games and seeing 100 people there makes me sick to my stomach. It's like a slap in the face to every dedicated fan, and what makes it worse is that our administration seems perfectly okay with that.

As long as he's a Zip I'll stick behind him. Everyone makes mistakes... He's a young kid, and hopefully he learns his lesson and doesn't let it happen again. Most importantly let's hope it doesn't hurt his future.

I mean actual media outside the soccer world? Do you think anyone cares that we made it to the tournament twice? and in both years we barely made it and lost in the first round? So please explain to me how I should be happy about our football team having 2 wins in the past two years, having a mediocre basketball team that plays in a dump of an arena, and being good at soccer? Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! How cute. Sounds like someone's still upset that they had their toy coach taken away from them! And I don't know where akzipper comes from, but on the planet where I live, football (or "soccer" as he terms it) is the biggest sporting and cultural event in the lives of most of our people. At one time religion held sway over the lives of common men, but we have now replaced that with football. Still, we seem to have maintained a certain magnanimous humility about our sporting/cultural lives, at least compared to those civilizations for which sport still is a proxy for warfare. We were surprised that when we eliminated our armies, our athletes actually began to exhibit less hostility to opposing teams, and sportsmanship has overflowed. Now our sporting clubs are exemplars of the cooperative attitude that underlies our international trade alliances. Sports has become a tool for maintaining peace and sharing in our planet's sustainable prosperity. Just kidding. Ahhhhhhhhh! How I would love to live on THAT planet. If you're referring to Tressel, I said from the day Ianello was fired that we had ZERO chance of getting him.

I think when they're referring to "info" maybe it's a reference to InfoCision Stadium. Where we go to watch our 1 win football teams, then they cross the street, buy some drugs from the crackheads that makes them believe that Tressel would ever come to Akron. We're really looking at our AD's wardrobe for a clue about our next coach. It's not Fickell, since he's not wearing a wind breaker, but we now know he's staying at O$U anyway. Now the sweater vest is a Tressel signature, but did Tressel ever wear a hat? Turner Gill wears a hat, could he be headed back to the MAC? Eric Mangini has worn hats on occasion too? Tony Dungy wore hats? maybe it could be him. Not to mention he also would sport the sweater vest and is in fact bald like TW? Maybe TW has intentionally been shaving his head to appear bald, but in fact he could grow a fro if he wanted. Now when looking at the pants, it's tough. Absorb the sanctions. What JT would bring to UA would outweigh most temporary sanctions. The loss of a handful of scholarships? I'd guess the quality of recruits JT would attract would render that harmless on the MAC level. The loss of bowl eligibility for a couple of years? Ha! We're a couple of years away from qualifying for a bowl anyhow. But how could they ban Akron from bowl games and scholarships? That's punishing a school who has zero connection to the OSU problems. The Buckeyes never got any penalties of that magnitude did they? maybe scholarships but I didn't hear anything about a bowl ban. Tressel isn't coming to Akron, but I think he's paid for it already. He lost his job, got a new job with the Colts and had to serve a suspension with them. Isn't that enough? Did the Colts get punished for hiring him? don't think so.

I was thinking somewhere around Dec 20th? There are a lot of "better" coaching opportunities out there so far (Illinois, Arizona State, Arizona, Kansas, Memphis, UAB) and not many good candidates available. Regardless of timing, they all have a better shot at landing a coach than us and thus have an advantage. Once the pieces start to fall it will become harder for us to scramble and find candidates, meaning it will take more time. The coaching carousel is like the NFL Draft, and we are the team picking 32nd. Gotta sit back and wait to see who everyone else gets, and finally end up getting the "Who's That?" signing we experienced two years ago...
