Basketball fundamentals...free throws and lay-ups. Just weren't there today but surprisingly looks like we'll take this one!
-
Well tied with about a minute left? This season has shown us they will lose this game...

I agree he hit that 3 with a flick of the wrist. I have the feeling there might be some disciplinary reasons, but I hope not. KD has always seems to pull the hot shooters and I've never understood why. Also he is a fan of mass substitutions. It seems like a lot of the time, we have a nice run going and he subs out 3 guys. It's a huge momentum killer and he does it constantly. Like we're watching a hockey game. Oh well let's just hope they can get their heads on straight and avoid an embarrassing loss to freaking Miami.

Had to bring up this old thread, since we got a new coach. Seriously think we need a change to usher in a new era of zips football. Forgetting the past and a new look to completely remove ourselves from the Ianello regime. Obviously I know that recruiting and winning is most important... I know this topic is brought up a lot, but I think it's almost a must. Watching the bowl games, it is apparent football uniforms have become more important than they ever were in the past. Recruits pay a lot more attention to uniforms than you would think and even minor details like that couldn't hurt.

Its great to see so many people, on his facebook, saying positive things about Akron football. Looks like we're getting a lot of support from FSU fans! I only attended 1 game last year, but am seriously considering season tickets for next year. Needless to say I will definitely be driving to Akron for the first game.

PD Article: Terry Bowden talks Urban Meyer
akzipper replied to scottditzen's topic in Akron Zips Football
Terry should have just answered the question with "Who cares if Urban will win at OSU? Akron will win more" -
Regardless, but no use ruining a Terry Bowden thread by bringing up that irrelevant glorified high school.

I really don't pay any attention to YSU fans anymore, its just not worth it. They suffer from a severe inferiority complex, causing them to hate Akron. Honestly we are not rivals in any way, other than the fact we are located in the same state. Maybe there was a time we shared a conference, but now our schools are on completely different levels. Our complete demolition of their bball team was an obvious example. YSU fans comparing their "school" to Akron, is like comparing Wayne State to YSU. All they ever bring up is...Tressel, some random AA championships, wearing Under Armour, and attendance. 4 things that are completely irrelevant...

Talk radio in Raliegh discussing the Zips
akzipper replied to Zipgrad01's topic in Akron Zips Football
Sadly the sleeping giant is in more of a coma. Win 2 games next year and have increased attendance. All I ask Terry! Is there any truth to Tommy Bowden coming on board to coach? That would be an amazing hire, especially as a recruiter, OC, or Wr's coach. BTW seems his daughter is a bit like Bernie Kosars haha, be careful when doing a google search! -
I noticed a lot of people supporting this too. But saw on twitter and facebook, the Akron Basketball account mentioned it yesterday and Follow The Roo did this morning. Wonder if it's just a coincidence or they noticed it on ZipsNation?

Nike is doing a contest, guess the top 15 teams with the most "roars" gets t-shirts made. Kind of pointless really, but I guess it would be a way to get a bit a national recognition from Nike. Possibly get us some better Nike gear to buy at team shops if they realize that we do have a few hundred fans haha. Would be cool to get some Nike "Fear The Roo" shirts. If you want to vote: Nike Basketball We have the most "days won" with 9, but Duke is leading with over 200000 ...I know I misspelled the title, can't figure out how to change it!

It's Official -- Chuck Amato is new DC!
akzipper replied to NewZipsFan's topic in Akron Zips Football
At first I was excited about this hire, but then I remembered when Walt Harris was brought in as an assistant. Former HC of both Pitt and Stanford. I sure hope this turns out better...but who knows -
Also first ever to install the every exciting "punt offense" at Akron, which was completely revolutionary at the time. Maybe Kansas would be better with him as special teams coordinator? But in all seriousness, how did we go from Rob Ianello to Terry Bowden and Chuck? not even on the same level!

Hope you're watching the OK State Fiesta Bowl Game
akzipper replied to NewZipsFan's topic in Akron Zips Football
Wouldn't surprise me, their band is weird as hell. Weird shirtless dudes, vests, strange hats, random dancing? I don't get how a University as prestigious as Stanford would want themselves represented that way. I'm glad our band at least plays with some class, acts, and dresses like it! -
I predicted 7-7 going into MAC play and everyone said I was crazy. I claimed I was being realistic. Well I was only off 1, so it was a pretty accurate wouldn't you say? Now looking at the MAC schedule I could see us going 11-6, ending with a record of 19-13. Most likely the 6 losses would be from Can't 2x, Ohio 2x, and we usually lose a few to scrub teams like Buffalo and Eastern.

I honestly don't have much respect for a guy who left like that. It's one thing to use a mid-major as a stepping stone, which I don't agree with, but he left Akron to go to another mid-major. Really hard to not hate the guy. Would be like KD saying F- Akron and going to coach at UAB or something. Best thing is that we have a national championship and he doesn't. So I say screw Mack and screw Houston!

How the SEC Came to Rule College Football
akzipper replied to johnnyzip84's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
The sad part is, during the past year during scandals at Miami and Penn State who are always the first people to rip on them? OSU fans. Irony at it's core. Worry about your own problems before you start pointing fingers at other programs. Just an FYI, Urban Meyer doesn't automatically make you good. Just remember Teblow is coming with him. OSUcks -
Like I said most NBA arena's are fine for both. Reasoning is most were built recently and have been configured to house both. The only arena's that you have issues are those that were built decades ago with one sport in mind and later decided to add another configuration. I've been to the Q many times and have sat all over the place. Never once had a problem seeing the game.
-
Almost every NBA team plays in an arena that houses a hockey rink. It makes no freaking difference! as long as it means we're getting a new, bigger, and nicer arena I don't care what else they use it for. Just that the Zips get to call it home.

School to the East's reaction to the Terry Bowden hire

Yeah I agree it is a few steps away from being a good arena. Step 1: Tear it down Step 2: Build a new one So you're saying a university of over 30,000 and city of 200,000 doesn't need a nice arena? I don't buy that. Do you realize how many companies are located in NE Ohio that would put money forward to have their name on the building? and it isn't renovating the JAR at the same time, it's building a new arena and then converting the JAR to a practice facility in the future.
-
Well have any hiring been officially reported by the university? Its a bit different for the Plain Dealer or Beacon Journal to report something, as opposed to some random football rumor website or internet forum. If they wrote articles about every rumor Ohio.com would be a complete mess and would lose credibility. They asked Coach Bowden several times about the hiring process. He said that it's up to the university on how they would go about announcing the positions. Chances are they are going to wait until the whole staff is in place and have an official announcement. Which then will be safe for the Beacon to post.
-
I figured the renovations were to create a players lounge. If they are going to build a new arena, they would still need the JAR to practice and work out. Some big schools have a separate building for practicing and working out. Like he said, it had to be done eventually. Just like when we built Buchtel field and Stile fieldhouse. Did that mean we weren't getting a new stadium? No. Just more convenient that way... Just search around the internet. You'll see a lot of great basketball practice facilities at bigger schools. I'd like to see a new arena and then the JAR converted to just a practice facility. As opposed to demolishing it like Memorial. Would also help bring more tournaments like Lebron's to campus.
-
Don't drop another dime on the JAR. Sorry, but we deserve a new Arena. If they can build new facilities for football and soccer, there's no reason they couldn't for basketball. Something that seats at least 8k but more preferably something around 10k range. Recruits don't and will not get excited about the JAR. Unless we are content with being mediocre in the MAC forever, then fine... That is what BG has done. Do you think a school that builds the Stroh Center wants to be a force in college basketball. Heck no! they built a glorified high school gym... There's no problem working with the city to get it done. They need the arena as much as we do, and would be a win-win for everyone.

Florida St connection. Isn't T-Buck the inventor of the Lambeau Leap? Wonder what he will invent here? Summa Skip? I hope Coach B can use his Florida connection for players too. Will his Akron coaching debut is as good as his NFL debut? Leroy Butler invented the Lambeau Leap if I remember correctly...
