  1. wow really I never would have known that. Baby steps for UA, if only we could get CMT too. But thats just being greedy!
  2. I don't think the Akron dorms carry STO so this sucks big time! As much as I love this school, these little things really are starting to get on my nerves...
  3. It looks like Dix Stadium or Youngstown State's stadium, our soccer team deserves better. Terrible, just terrible. Only reason this would be better is if they were going to expand the grandstand at the end of this season, which looks possible. I just don't see why they didn't make the upper bleacher section the same width as the chair-back section?
  4. Yeah I heard about a starbucks going in the old "campus palette" location or whatever the failed art store was. Also had heard about a Chick-fil-a going in the student union where planet underground used to be. But I'm not sure how true these rumors were seeing as I heard them years ago and still nothing has happened... Starbucks isn't a rumor, I have seen them loading espresso machines and milk steamers into the old campus palette all summer. Scheduled to open in the fall. great news, although I tend to feel awkward going into that place, they do have some great drinks

  6. What I wish was on exchange: 1. Chick-fil-a 2. Arbys 3. Johnny Rockets (will never happen) usually only in very busy parts of town 4. Krispy Kreme 5. Cold Stone (would run DQ out) I think girls would want either Panera, Chipotle, or ya another Starbucks... id say the top 2 are most likely, Chick-fil-a is actually sold at the JAR and Info, and Arbys is the sponsor of the student section. So both have somewhat connections to UA.
  7. does anyone else have this crazy unreadable font on that site? I seriously cannot read any of the type its just stupid symbols haha
  8. It's better than previous years but not as dynamic at the rest of them I've seen. Would have been cooler to use a panoramic photo of the stadium in the background instead, like the one used for the homecoming brochure. I'm sure there are plenty of students over in Folk Hall that could design us some kick a** posters for free! find it odd Syracuse had the NYC skyline in the background. I understand they wanted to tie in orange empire with empire state. It would be like the Zips using the skyline of detroit or pittsburgh. Only difference is the Big Apple is over 4 hrs away, and Syracuse is definitely NOT any kind of empire...
  9. Thanks for the pics. I can't believe how much they still have to do. I wish we could see the updated drawings because they seem to have changed a lot. I sure hope they keep our "awesome" pressbox there. It will really help give the stadium a big time feel! haha why they did not design the Infocision press box similar to the soccer one is beyond me....
  10. Let me ask you this, name coaches you would have rather had. Realistic choices, and I bet you they are all from FCS, D2, and D3. Like I said before everyone wanted the guy from Mt. Union and I even heard some PSAC coaches named. Please...Division 3 has no recruiting or scholarships. It might as well be high school, and D2 isn't much better.
  11. Although I agree that RI deserves a chance, I disagree with believing "we got the best that was out there". IMHO, Wistrcill did not give due diligence to the search for a head coach. He took the easy way out and hired a former acquaintance. I don't like RI's qualifications (i.e., "lack thereof") and am not excited about football season. I did renew my season ticket, but I fully expect to just go and watch with little to get excited about. I'm certain there were numerous successful head coaches at FCS and lower division schools who would have taken the opportunity to move to FBS. Although nothing is guaranteed, a successful HC from a lower division would have given me more confidence in his abilities to "run" a football team. People around here lost credibility when you guys starting calling for Larry Kehres of Mt Union and guys alike. I don't care if RI was a waterboy at Notre Dame, he has a better resume than some guy who coaches D2 or D3 football. The only way I could accept even a FCS coach is if they had a handful of National Championships and even then I might not think too much of them. We needed someone from a big school.
  12. What has Rob Ianello done to make you mad? He hasn't coached a game yet and who did you expect the Zips to hire Charlie Weis or something. Like it or not we are in the MAC, we don't have that many good coaches to hire from. I think we got the best that was out there, and frankly I think we got some of the best assistants too. Give the guy a chance before you hate. People are mad he's not marketing the team, but thats not his job. He's a coach, he came into a mess of a football team and there's a lot more important things to do before he can worry about meaningless golf outings. You can get mad at the Athletics dept too, but I'm sure they're working hard. The key to selling a sport is winning. Everyone in Ohio knows Akron has a football team, so a billboard to remind them is a waste of money. Can't has billboards, they suck, and no one goes to the games and we still outdraw them. Everyone goes to soccer games, but when was the last time we saw an ad for them? the team sells itself.
  13. I don't care if RI isn't "marketing" the team. He's the coach, he should be coaching! Leave the Marketing up to our AD.
  14. Isn't there some tanning business still in there? Yes, but they've decided to start using natural sunlight, so the building had to go.. Funny. But now that I think about it, there is the new " artificial tanning" tax being put into effect recently. It's a good location, but so is that old carwash that was supposed to be a skyway that isn't anything at all. You would think that both those corners would see new business moving in to take advantage of the stadium and new dorms. You would think so. Maybe restaurants are weary of losing customers during the summer when most students leave, or during the winter when they are too lazy to walk to get food. Also any place that opens up HAS to take ZipCards. If any place doesn't, it will totally be ignored by students. Taking Zip cards isn't a problem. The Chipotles at Chapel Jill and Highland Square take them. The Sheetz at the corner of Main and Waterloo takes them. It's not that big a deal, especially if you're just across the street from campus. And losing students in the summer is a big thing, but other businesses on Exchange seem to do just fine. In the winter, with the new dorms being built on Spicer, it's actually easier for the students to walk to that location the Subway next to it than to walk around the field house to campus. I know taking ZipCards isn't a problem most places oaround campus do take them, but there are still some that will refuse. They don't realize how much business they are losing. I've never found an Arbys to take one, same with Swansons and all the good chinese places near campus. It's frustrating because we don't want to spend money on food, when it is technically already paid for. Also UA really needs to make a better system. A lot of the time the scanners won't work and that means more money out of our pockets. One time I had over $100 worth or groceries at Daves and the stupid card machine wouldn't work. The lady didn't even try and I didn't want to spend money so I had to leave all the food there. terrible experience!

  16. Maybe they'll build another plasma center, or Jakes on-campus arena
  17. Do we know what ranking we got for this class? like a few years back I remember someone saying we had the #1 class in the nation. But I wasn't Sure what we got for the 2010 & 2011 classes...
  18. Some people might still remember the first Spring soccer schedule when Caleb Porter arrived. I can still recall the remarks about Akron playing Rio Grande! We've moved up to Michigan and Maryland. Maybe the football team will scrimmage ND in the future. If we ever do scrimmage/play ND, we'll kick their asses too. GO ZIPS!! 2010 Well if we tied Notre Dame we could act like it was the biggest win in the history of UA athletics! you don't need coaches, refs, and pads to play football
  19. I heard patrick nicely played a game of chess outside of Bierce Library yesterday, against the qb from youngstown. PN7 actually lost. YSU is just toooo good for us! ....we might as well just give up on the 2010 season already...
  20. It's fine that he told us about the 7 on 7, but what annoys me is that he made a point to say that we tied and that YSU's offense couldn't be stopped. It's 7on7, no pads, no refs, no tackling, no purpose caring who won or lost, or tied. It's not just him, but all penguins fans are the same. ankle-bitters, and at least eguins doesn't try to trash talk like most do, but still.
  21. This is especially true in baseball and tennis where 7 on 7 drills result in the field seeming fairly empty or the court quite full, respectively. Found out that Youngstown State was never stopped on offense, but considering Nicely threw 6 touchdown's I find it hard to believe Akron was ever stopped on offense either. Sounds like each team's defense was pretty ugly. inferiority complex exemplifies Penguin fans. They are nothing more than a bunch of ankle-bitters that are trying to act like we are rivals. Akron is in a whole other level of college football and we don't care about YSU in the least. It's getting annoying when I watch zips videos on youtube there's always a comment from a YSU fan. They comment on the crowd and cow "crappy" our stadium is. I guess compared to their glorified high school stadium, the amazing Infocision stadium is pretty crappy. This scrimmage meant nothing and I have no idea why it was even mentioned!? I'm sure no one outside of Youngstown even knew it took place. Sad thing is that a tie in a 7on7 scrimmage against us, they are acting like they won a National Championship or something.
  22. I noticed the Akron University thing too, it's awful. Honestly all three of these designs are strange. I don't really like the idea of another school winning either, and I really hope UA's entry wins. Why couldn't they just have all 5 entries come from UA?
  23. You know I actually agree with Jake for once. We need to stop acting like our only focus is Can't State. We are better than them in every aspect and we need to start acting like it. Does Ohio State run around saying "Can't State Sucks", no because they could care less. It's just like how we could care less about Youngstown State. They are also crap and when someone comes around trying to talk trash we just laugh because it's just the YSU. Yes we are a MAC team, but we are better than the rest of the MAC. Our school is better, our fans are better, and we dominate most sports, and the others will come around. Can't sucks and they always will.
