first half of this thread vs the 2nd is something else. How much do Ohio HS "respect" Loeffler @GP1? Because Arth sure owns his a$$!! WIll take some time to rewatch the game and post more thoughts in the coming days. Enjoying victory Saturday

I like this, but what I'm not sure what you're meaning with the highlighted. Do you mean the only assistant Akron has had?
-
Based on what, though? His background is nearly identical to Arth, yet he has no HC experience. Of course it could work, but I see little on paper that makes it a definite.

2021-2022 Akron Zips Basketball- Looking Forward
LZIp replied to clarkwgriswold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
An All-MAC player who decided to transfer here to not be a starter would be quite the surprise.........I'd bet a lot against it. -
I'd personally rather give Arth more time to grow and adjust as well as his players more time to gain experience and develop in lieu of settling for the hope of "lightning in a bottle". My thoughts may change as the season progresses however! I do agree this is not an attractive job at all, and we don't have the money to make anyone ignore the stink.

Zips football attendance and revenue (as bad as it may be comparatively) blows every other sport's attendance and revenue out of the water. Why don't we just cut all sports?

Want to expand on this discussion, as its quite possible we'll be looking for a new one soon. Complaining and calling for people's heads is one thing, but I much prefer listening to solutions rather than complaints. I've heard all about why Arth isn't the right guy. Staff not respected, no D1 experience, etc. Getting rid of him does nothing for the program if we don't hit on the new hire. Is a NFL QB coach, like a Frye or a Getsy who has no HC experience/limited collegiate coaching experience in general acceptable? Arth's resume is better than theirs at the collegiate level and he's apparently just as qualified to be an NFL QB coach as he reportedly turned down the Chargers job. Want a coordinator from a P5 program? Keep dreaming. We've long been priced out of that option. A stud D2/D3 coach? Is that really any different than Arth? A G5 coordinator is a reasonable target, but likely a big gamble. Retread? It worked for us to an extent with Bowden,. Could be an option. I always get the sense those guys are looking to move on as soon as they can though. Lane Kiffin comes to mind. You're also likely going to either hire a guy who flamed out at a top level or who is no longer there for off the field reasons, which brings into question as to whether or not you want them associated with the University. Top FCS coach? We likely can't pay enough to make them want to leave their comfort zone to join this dumpster fire. Just think you need a good idea of what you want before making the decision to move on and likely even have somebody specific in mind. Screw the search firm BS. Interesting in hearing you all's thoughts and and specific names if you got them.

Outside of win/loss and lack of talent, anyone willing to go into detail on why Arth needs to go? Like X’s and O’s type stuff. I believe he can coach. Obviously win/loss is all that matters at the end of the day, but anybody with any sense knows we weren’t set up to win in any year yet with the talent and experience he’s had. Obviously he has a lot of responsibility in that, but it’s clear he’s taken the long game approach. The number of underclassman playing is probably more than anyone in the nation. I’m wrestling with giving it another year as the youth and inexperience excuse is no longer valid next year, IMO. Then it would be bowl game or bust. I think whoever is coaching (including Arth) - assuming they aren’t a whiff - can have success next year assuming they don’t blow it up a la Arth as long as they fill the right holes from the portal, and that’s a credit to him with all the investment we’ve put in on the young guys. There’s an all-MAC QB,an above average WR tandem, and various other pieces moving forward in place. If you bring a new guy in, you have to 1) make sure they can coach and 2) hope they don’t blow it up or we’re going only going to reset the misery and likely end up in the same cyclical hell we have always been in. Not stanning for Arth, Bowden, or anyone. All I care about is the long term success of this program. Something I’ve never seen as a fan unfortunately.

Now that I think about it, I believe you're right as I vaguely recall Liberty paying MAC teams to go there. Still, when we rescheduled the last week with South Carolina the year we canned Bowden, that was tabbed as "the buyout" money or whatever and people still bitched about it.

dre isn't worth the time, brotha.

He was also featured on Netflix's Titletown for anyone who wants to get to know him more.

Pretty defeated to be honest. Can't force myself to go to another game this year. Completely unacceptable how we couldn't stop the QB who couldn't throw the ball. They ran the same 2 plays over and over and over and we couldn't stop it. We may be stuck with Arth, but I want Feeney gone. I noticed on third and short he seems to take big guys out and put smaller ones it. Doesn't make much sense to me. We have a few players, but by and large, the entire unit is quite likely the worst in the nation. I was watching gameday this morning and they were discussing Clemson's offense and how they're starting two freshman on the line as part of the excuse for offensive struggles. Trotting out 5 freshman OL (including a walk on in Robarge) to protect Irons might be borderline negligence. The shake up in the interior doesn't appear to be working. Can't believe we are down to a walk on freshman RB. Reminds me of year 1. Side note: when walking up to buy tickets, I saw Dollard and I believe McCall wearing "Free #7" and "Free #99" shirts. Surprised (and maybe somewhat hopeful for the future?) they appear to be on campus still, even though they're clearly clowns for the shirts. I was listening to the radio on the way home and they were talking about BG and mentioned how them bringing in 7 transfers on D is really helping them this year. The new NCAA rule will force Arth's hand whether he planned on it or not this year. In addition to the annual 25 counter, you can bring in an additional 7 from the transfer portal for each player of yours who entered the portal. So far we've lost Gavin Blunt and Bryce Peterson. Shouldn't be too hard to upgrade those schollies. Getting a lot older next year and the chance to bring in more P5 talent is the only thing that gives me a glimmer of hope for the future, as "Jimmy's and Joe's" is largely the issue in my eyes.

Irons is suited up….
-
We just can't catch a break.... I was pleasantly surprised by Bischoff and Corner in cleanup time vs OSU however.
-
My comment was directed at the statement that DJ liked it.
-
Irons being out would certainly be unexpected as there was nothing that indicated he was hurt and I had zero issues with our WRs during the OSU game. Really don't have an issue with the playcalling either.......Tough to do much when you are overmatched in terms of size and talent at every position. My issue is the defense in general. That unit is a sieve. If we have a slew out guys out, its no wonder OU is a favorite. We aren't that talented nor experienced, we can't afford to be missing many starters.
-
How much of Ant Williams, Oran Singleton, Jalen Hooks, Boateng, Fann, and maybe even Bubba do we have available? Of course thats a rhetorical question, but if we don't get healthier, its going to be tough. And I only bring Bubba up as Arth mentioned multiple LBs getting banged up, though I never noticed anytihing during the game. This definitely appears on paper to be one of our two best chances to win another game this year. OU has looked pretty dreadful thus far, as LoyalZip indicated. If Irons and the WRs can stay healthy/develop, I think they can give us a chance in some games.
-
there is nothing wrong with scheduling 1 or 2 pay day games a year..its the games vs the bluebloods I think most are complaining about.
-
2 drops that drive alone…
-
Corner and Bischoff would appear to be in for Bubba and Boateng. Hopefully Boateng’s injury wasn’t serious.
-
This is the first game it hasn’t been Beckman, for what it’s worth. I thought the biggest upgrade we could have made would be to maybe try out Chambers at LT and leave everything else alone.
-
This year is likely "long enough" if we only win 1 game. I'm not sure of my thoughts if they were to win something like 2. If I end up being satisfied based on reasonable expectations this year, my expectations next year are bowl eligible or bust, without a doubt. This would give Arth another year to address issues with players and staff, his original class would be in their 4th year in the program. There's been a lot of issues the staff has had to face - some self inflicted, and some out of their control. Taking the long approach and booting a lot of Bowden players/playing their recruits, COVID, way under the scholarship limit, losing the best player on offense, potentially defense (McCall), and the O-line coach unexpectedly this season. I haven’t seen much that makes me think “incompetent” from the coaching staff. Some of the weird head scratching stuff seems to be ref screw ups (based on the games I’ve been to).My biggest head scratcher is some of the personnel decisions, but they’re obviously around the team infinitely more than me.

I've noticed our entire interior OL is switched around tonight. They aren't looking good, though they are playing against a bunch of 4 and 5 stars. Robarge I believe isn't even on scholly. Our #2 RB, Hester, isn't either I don't believe.
-
I think we’ll score again. The OL is a weakness but our skill players are solid.
