Nice size @Blue & Gold. That’s what we need. Though I wonder if we should get too invested in the staff’s class this year as they may get fired and it’ll all fall apart lol.
-
Whether or not it was the right decision in hindsight, he hasn’t taken the same approach as many other coaches, and there’s what, like 1-2 players being productive for another school? You can’t fault council for going to Auburn and WR is not an issue so it’s not like Boogie was some big loss. Boogie transferred because he wasn’t better than Mathison. If I could pick Arth’s brain, I’d bet he isn’t where he wants to be this far in, but I can’t take anyone serious who can’t see he took the long approach in a rebuild. I imagine that plan was discussed in the interview process. Moving the goal posts in the middle of it and leaving no hope to escape the black hole of suck barring a miracle would be such an Akron move. His initial recruiting class is still underclassmen. If you’re gonna make a change, you can’t miss on the replacement. Given Akron’s history, granted Guthrie wasn’t a part of it, the odds aren’t in our favor.

I saw his sister just committed to Georgia State for softball. Akron should have been recruiting her if there was any sort of forethought.

What “rebuild” is needed? We need to bring in talented players that can compete right away. If I’ve got to wait another 3 years for the Zips to be competitive, I’d rather give Arth another year to see if he can learn from his mistakes/his bets on playing all these underclassman pays off. Regardless of who is coach next year, I want bowl eligibility. There are players who have a lot of experience on this team who are pieces to work with moving forward. Some of the starters can be supplanted by transfers, but they still provide depth. Not to mention the majority of the rest of the conference is going to lose a lot of experience next year while Akron is not.

What a sloppy ending to the half.
-
Defense looking competent was fun while it lasted.
-
Why hasn’t Norrils played the past 4+ games again?
-
Defense holding well so far. Doesn't seem like WRs are getting open??
-
Gibson needs to get something going.
-
A bit of a bummer based on his film. He doesn't have any other D1 offers at the point per his twitter, so who knows of the circumstances behind the decison.
-
One would think ESPN pays all of these conferences because they make some money on it. I wonder why Fox doesn't get in the game? We are in the B1G's footprint.
-
I agree. We are just sitting back and seemingly not doing anything. The MAC is either letting a chance to survive or improve the conference pass by. Feels like we are just falling further and further behind. I'd like for somebody to get the Commish's thoughts on the current landscape. What do you mean by get off the ship? Akron shouldn't be doing anything by ourselves. If you want to talk spring football, we just saw this past spring how that would work (not good).

I heard on Zips Live I believe last Tuesday where Groce mentioned they have a scrimmage with a big named school prior to the exhibition vs WVU. Anyone with insight on that?

Put me down for not really caring about the logo and uniforms as long as they aren't ugly. I personally like our new uniforms as well as the script logo. Toledo and Ohio also have their names in their logo for what its worth. I also like 14 hour briskets and craft beer so not sure where that puts me

I don't know why any MAC school would want to join the C-USA. Our TV deal appears to pay twice as much as theirs (without considering the impact in the future with the amount of their big-market schools being poached), competition certainly isn't a leg up, and travel distance increases. Love it or hate it, the one thing the MAC has going for it is stability with all of the schools so close to each other geographically.

So Terry's shortcomings were due to the administration yet Arth's aren't?

It's quite obvious by anyone who watches this team that they lack talent and depth. If you think increasing playing time for walk-ons is going to lead to more success, I don't know what to tell you.
-
2nd. Though last year was only 6 games and they've mixed starters up quite a bit this year. I was in favor of bringing at least one in from the portal and still am for next year.
-
All signs pointing to Gibson to start per pregame show.
-
I think we beat the spread. All of the issues this team has didn’t suddenly disappear. I’ll be thrilled if we’re able to pull it off though and think that’s be a great sign going forward. Go Zips.
-
ABK. Anyone but Kato.
-
For whatever reason, listening to Arth is much more tolerable after a win.
-
I was told just last week most of these guys don't have potential to develop :) Like Ham said, I remember watching Gibson the past 2 years. While many wrote him off, I thought he had talent, just needed to clean things up. Against OSU and again yesterday, it looks to me like it happened. Having 2 viable QB options is a great problem to have. Kato no longer counts as one...sorry. He's the same player he's been all his career and he was the one with the hype.

I don’t agree. We’ve ran at least a few multiple TE sets this year and Brank has been regularly involved in the offense. He was 3rd on the team in receiving before today. #11 was more involved at the beginning of the year and seems to have gotten at least some more action today. Yarmo gets regular PT as well, though he doesn’t seem to do much in the receiving game.
