Jimond Ivey is just who I was about to say he reminds me of. Also wears #0 to boot.

KD made $1m after bonuses his last year at Akron.

We didn't start to pull away until the bench mob got in the first time. Nice contributions by them again. We are legit 10 deep, and anywhere between 2-4 of the scholarship players not in the rotation probably would be on most teams. I noticed Currie missing from the bench as well. He's been a huge question mark this year and we haven't gotten any answers, but he has seemed to score in his limited action and I haven't noticed him stick out on D. However, I don't think taking minutes from Freeman/Reece would happen at this point in the season. As Groce said, he wants players to be all-stars in their roles, and we are winning so no complaining here. Also, Aziz moves pretty good for a 7 footer. Him and Clarke have both looked good in limited time.

MAC Men’s Basketball - Catch-all Thread
LZIp replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Sure would be nice if literally anyone else in the MAC would beat Toledo. -
Calling them not a top 5 A10 team was a weird take then.
-
No sir. Scholarships offered to walk-ons who have been in the program 2 or more seasons do not count against the 25 annual counter.
-
Should have up to 8.

I’m sure I could be wrong but I’m not so convinced Groce would take a high profile job again. He’s done it and it didn’t work out. Both times in the MAC he’s had great success. He honestly still has a lot to prove at Akron. How about our first tourney win? Money isn’t an issue at this point in his career nor would it be if he were to stay at Akron. Probably wishful thinking though.

The bench mob of Tribble, Reece, Dawson, and Wynn was fun to watch last night. That group brought a different type of energy.
-
Well unfortunately we drew all of Toledo/WMU/Ball State. Bryant and BG are our two most surefire wins. Temple has had a ton of turnover and had a very bad year last season., they could be a game we pull off. We could also (and I expect) 1 or 2 upsets in MAC play. 2 wins worst case scenario, 5 wins best case scenario is was we are looking at I think.

Where can I get my Enrique Freeman jersey?

Really nice first half of team ball. No over reliance on LCJ. Everybody is contributing in one way or another. Love the energy brought in by the #BenchMob

Ali has had some nice post moves.
-
I'll tell you what, Reece sure does get some weak fouls called against him. Good on him for keeping his cool as long as I can remember.
-
Ty Groce must be 30.

Prediction: we shoot much better against the zone at home than Ypsi and kick their @ss. Go Zips

We were the only FBS school to offer Riley and he was ranked .7682 per 247, which is lower than any ranked member of our current class. How on earth was he highly touted?

Mike Neu didn't win until year 5. I'd love for our program to be in Ball State's position right now. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Neu Chuck Martin didn't have a winning record until year 6. I'd happily be in Miami's position right now. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Martin_(American_football) Lance Leipold didn't have a winning record until year 4. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lance_Leipold There's 3 current coaches who didn't "win" until at least year 4 and they should all be MAC competitors for the foreseeable future. Terry Bowden's only winning season came in year 4 as well.

I can't remember what exactly Groce was doing last year in that game, but I got into a verbal back and forth with another Zips fan over it. I believe we were intentionally fouling down 3 or less with like a minute left (or something of the sorts) and I just couldn't grasp giving them free points when we didn't need to extend the game at that point.Turns out they sucked at FT shooting, then X hit the game winning 3 as time expired and I looked like the idiot. I still wouldn't have done what he did, but I guess it worked.

As official news as we are probably going to get.
-
Well it seems like our 3 most impactful players from last year aren't going anywhere for the time being.
-
Yeah it'll be tough. More likely 3-4. However, falling one or two wins short of whatever baseline you think there should be (while still trending upward) isn't worth blowing it up if its believed there is potential for the program to keep improving. And if you are able to show improvement year over year, I'm not sure why anyone would think we can't keep improving until proven otherwise. The goal in my mind is sustainable competitiveness. If he can't compete in year 4 when he has a team filled with all his players, they're experienced, and with 2 more years to fix issues, then its time to shake things up. We should all be looking at the patience shown to Chuck Martin and Mike Neu. It took them a while, but they got the ball rolling and their programs look like they'll be competitive for the foreseeable future. It can pay off.

3-5 would have been doable if we played YSU, UMASS, and NMSU like we were supposed to. I expect some progress next year, but just don't see us competing for the MAC (not that I'm saying anyone does). Not to mention we have a tough schedule. I think year 4 is the year we need to at minimum make a bowl game/be bowl eligible. If he can't get it then with a very experienced team and 2 more years to fill holes on the roster, I'd say its unlikely he ever will outside of a random season here and there, and if that was good enough, we would have kept Bowden.
