  1. we look incredibly sluggish.
  2. Some have trashed this coaching staff, but in just a year and 2 months since they've been here, we have had 4 assistants move on to better opportunities - Kevin Koger (Packers), Shelton Felton (Tennessee), Jonathan Cooley (Rams), and Davern Williams (Troy). Seemed like Shelton Felton had some good GA recruiting connections. In all of Bowden's years, I only remember one coach moving on to better opportunities - Terrell Buckley (Louisville).
  3. big win #20!
  4. Atleast we aren't...UCONN... https://247sports.com/Article/UConn-Huskies-football-transfer-portal-college-football-independent--143915275/
  5. We still have 2 open spots we can fill next year, correct? Lose (at min) Cheese, Banks, Riak, , and X. Have Currie and Clarke signed. T
  6. Since Groce has been here, we've took players from Iowa, ECU, South Carolina, Dayton, Long Beach State, Florida, and St Johns. Some have been pretty good, some have punched out teammates, and some remain to be seen. However, I don't believe any were the caliber Currie was out of HS (except for maybe Hester, who never ended up playing here). He's the third leading JUCO scorer in the country. I have pretty high expectations for him...and we get him 3 years.
  7. I laughed when the CMU player made fun of LCJ’s height after he made a layup over him. Sure looked like a tool talkin smack to the best player on the court who was embarrassing your team.
  8. I struggle to see it happening after this season or next season. His "failure" at Illinois may make him more hesitant, as well as other programs. While this season has been great, and reminds me of my college days (Zeke era), he hasn't done anything here yet. But hey..if he wants to win a tourney game and head out, so be it. He didn't do that at OU though.
  9. From what i've seen so far, I don't picture Ali, Tribble, or Dawson ever being much of a threat shooting the ball. I think all are good athletes, defenders, and have the capability of being pretty good slashers, however.
  10. Can't believe we won that game, but I'll take it. We got incredibly lucky at the end with EMU choking and our players finally hitting some shots. Obviously I'm happy we were able to come out with the win, but am I the only one who has a real problem with Groce's end of game strategy today, even though it ended up working out??!! I just cannot get behind giving the opponent free points with just under a minute left while we are only down one score. Regardless, can we kick EMU and their boring a$$ style of play out of the MAC already?? Why would any player want to play for that program? Incredibly boring style of play. I don't recall a team EVER not trying to rebound on their own player's FT attempts regularly throughout a game. They'd rather make sure they are set up in their lame zone. The true CBB equivalent of "parking the bus". ?
  11. Welp, top returning OL appears to be gone. https://247sports.com/college/akron/Season/2020-Football/TransferPortal/
  12. To distinguish position groups. You'll notice some groups might have only one player (like Sampson at DE). I just pulled those off of the roster, though not all may be correct due to changes within the past year (like Bentley).
  13. You're correct on both accounts. I'll refine classes/positions once spring roster is released.
  14. Bio of today's signees: https://gozips.com/news/2020/2/4/watch-as-akron-football-commitments-post-on-wednesday.aspx Interesting notes - Konata Mumpfield and Ryan Jankowski are going to greyshirt and enroll in spring of 2021, counting towards next year's class. So, assuming 26 total available, it appeared we were at 27 with today's signings, but are actually at 25. Its tough to find anything out there about a player being medically disqualified creating an extra "counter" and allowing a team to sign more than 25, but I'm trusting @ComettoZip's word there. With that, there is still potentially 1 open scholly out there. We are currently 9 under the limit and can maybe get it to 8. There is no doubt players will end up transferring. This handcuff is worth keeping in mind throughout the year. We are doing everything we can to get to a "level" playing field, with likely less talented players overall, while much of the stable opposition is looking for ways to shed players so that they can bring in more talented ones. 15. So that puts us at 6, which means we should be full now, unless there is something I don't know. Julius Hawkins and Ronald Jackson were surprises, who both had admirable offer lists. Konata Mumpfield and Tobias Thomas potential non-qualifiers and/or greyshirt candidates?
  16. Am I the only one who didn't realize tomorrow was the late signing day? Don't know why I thought it was mid-Feb. https://gozips.com/news/2020/2/4/watch-as-akron-football-commitments-post-on-wednesday.aspx I think there are 6 spots left. Absent any surprises, we should be looking at: Konata Mumpfield (WR) Dimarco Johnson (DB) Charles Amankwaa (DB) Tobias Thomas (DB) Ryan Jankowski (QB) George Qualls (JUCO WR)
  17. Guess: Konata - Scholly. Cook - PWO.
  18. On 1/15, Grimes tweeted he received a PWO offer from Akron, so this wouldn’t count as a scholly unless something has changed.
  19. Keep an eye out on Rosser ending up here in the end. Akron is now listed as the "favorite" on his 247 profile. I have not seen that before. Maybe he decommitted and couldn't find anyone to take him this late, or maybe he didn't have a choice? Who knows. For what its worth, none of our string of decommits from back in the season have committed anywhere yet (Jordan, Rosser, Bass, and Bulley). https://247sports.com/player/charles-rosser-46083431/
  20. Big, inconvenient loss for YSU. That game scared me, so I'm glad to hear this. Will his brother be taking over? Read that he wouldn't move without his "own" being taken care of.
  21. I do not believe so - at least none reported on here (outside of the Marshall TE transfer and the St. Eds TE).
  22. Another one. A LOT of DBs brought in this recruiting cycle. https://247sports.com/player/tobias-thomas-46083510/
  23. With Jankowski committed, I wonder if there is room for Brown at the position. I am a bit surprised Arth brought in another true freshman QB with Marousek already signed. However, the more competition at that position, the better. I just would have preferred a transfer who would be more likely ready to contribute immediately and challenge Kato. Another player I forgot about is George Qualls. There was mention of him signing on his side after our early signing period class was announced. So we may only have 2 spots left after Jankowski's commitment. A true freshman WR (we haven't signed any yet) and a transfer OL to get me excited about would be a nice close to the class.
