  1. Clarification. The sign said Akron exploits black athletes. Apparently the whit or brown ones weren't/aren't "exploited".
  2. When It rains it pours. It’s no wonder nobody has any pride in this school. Constantly treading water.
  3. From the video and what I've read, the whole '6 of 11 colleges' statement needs some context. Seems like they are looking at some consolidations (ex. CBA and law school as mentioned above) to reduce administrative overhead that probably isn't really necessary. Doesn't seem like over 50% of the majors are being cut, which is what I think somebody would take from that comment on its face.
  4. Maybe it was just me, but I kept reading the article waiting for the answer that doesn't involve cutting sports and all they could come up with is salary cuts (not to mention it would supposedly save "millions")? Does not compute.
  5. "Stay in FBS? Meh. FCS or D2?! Sign me up!" Such an odd take.
  6. I've seen nearly every assistant coach post a recruiting graphic on twitter today. The optimist in me makes me think we might be 'okay' on the football side. The timing of these posts seems too coincidental.
  7. We need to root for this issue to be as widespread as possible...if many are dealing with it, exceptions have to be made I'd think. https://www.crainscleveland.com/rachel-mccafferty-blog/kent-state-cut-fiscal-year-2021-budget-20?utm_source=afternoon-report&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20200427&utm_content=article5-readmore
  8. According to Hoke's previous comment, we are technically at 20 sports, so can afford to cut up to 6 (of course likely without much flexibility due to Title IX).
  9. #1 priority should be increasing enrollment. We had 19k in enrollment in fall of 2019 as opposed to 26k in fall of 2014 and 30k in 2010. The U spent all that money expecting 30k+ enrollment and now we are down close to half of our peak. Its no wonder we are in the position we are now. Increasing enrollment fixes everything. Unfortunately the constant turnover and bad PR over the past ~7 years makes it a hell of a lot harder than it needs to be!
  10. Some more numbers: https://www.cleveland.com/datacentral/2020/02/why-university-of-akron-outpaces-other-ohio-schools-in-subsidizing-its-sports-program.html
  11. That is neither....that is the total amount of institutional support the University provides the athletic programs. Hoke is certainly doing some embellishing pushing the student fees narrative.
  12. Not to mention 800m Olympic medalist Clayton Murphy.
  13. Not to my knowledge. An estimate repair cost of $1mm, IIRC.
  14. Obviously this is a very passionate discussion for most on here. Unsure how much of a difference, if any, it might make right now, but if anyone wants their voice heard I might recommend considering making a restricted donation to the sport(s) of your preference. https://gozips.com/sports/2017/5/25/zfund-Ways-to-Give-Sport-Specific.aspx
  15. Looking at those figures, we've ramped up football spending, but are only slightly above conference median. Those figures also don't show any student fees going to athletics, which we know isn't correct.
  16. Or the details are already known, just not made public. I hope President Miller knows better than to make a blanket statement like that and realizes the negative effect it can have on programs by not being transparent, leading us into further spiral.
  17. Good point. The stadium is used by at least: Lacrosse, intramural sports, one off events (high school playoff games, band competitions, etc), and everyone who uses the tower on a daily basis. I don't know if it is or not, but the cost should not be entirely allocated to the football program. Same goes for the field house as well.
  18. None! I'd rather the money go to basketball than football nobody cares about. If I wanted to be associated with somewhere like Ashland, thats where I would've went. However, once again, I find it hard to believe football is in real danger. We've already invested the facilities and we can't make those costs go away and we get the most exposure from football and men's basketball. I really do believe those two, along with men's soccer due to the success of the program, would be the last to go (obviously without considering all the TItle IX hoops). I'm also not in favor of FCS..though all G5 creating their own thing in shall I say, spring, would be intriguing, and a way to gobble up more money than before. There is no competition with the XFL gone.
  19. Saw something out there that the NCAA is looking at a one time transfer waiver for the 20-21 season. Maybe explains why we haven't heard much regarding the last two open scholarships. Could be some really good pieces that become available...
  20. I'd still be shocked if it happens, but the U can consider myself done with them if football goes away. I'd be embarrassed to be affiliated with a school who couldn't manage to field America's sport when so many other across the nation can. Some may have to (and probably should considering our financial situation) unfortunately go, but football, men's soccer, and men's basketball should be the last.
  21. I see we have a bunch of cheaters up in Canada. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/29078661/buffalo-hit-probation-forged-documents
  22. I was told by faculty at the STEM school (where at least the good Livingston attended) that he wasn't going to make grades to play, which is the reason he/they transferred. Didn't seem to have anything to do with the coach, but I'm not sure simply transferring to a private school could skirt grade eligibility requirements, so there may be more to the story...
  23. Looks like the OSU game is scheduled for 11/19. They also lost a couple of players to transfer, and not players they wanted to lose. One went to Marquette and one went to Arizona State. Can't wait!
