  1. That's correct, AFAIK. GT has never been one to pay much attention to detail, unless we're talking about movie plots.
  2. https://www.ohio.com/akron/sports/university-of-akron/university-of-akron-mens-basketball-zips-strengthen-roster-with-five-experienced-players#.WvCudOF1t-o.twitter
  3. I wonder if anyone thinks this would've been reality two years ago.
  4. FWIW - KD had 4 scholarship players transfer out of his program this year (compared to our 3). He also brought in a large freshman class. It may work out for him in 3 years, but is Duq going to be patient for that long? Would we give Groce that long? I think I like Groce's approach better for now personally. We've had our transition year. Time to stop the bleeding and maintain/build upon what the program was prior to last year. Can't waste valuable time waiting/hoping for freshman to develop. Cap'n did a good job on hitting on how it compares to the football program. More freshman will come in once the program is stable again. As for the 500 college transfers. This is the state of college basketball.
  5. I do not listen to ESPN Cle, but surely I am not the only one who heard that because the Browns drafted Mayfield, 1) Goldhammer is supposed to eat horse poop (which he claims he still will do) and 2) Grossi is supposed to retire. Please, please let both of those happen.
  6. sounds right to me (with how it stands today of course).
  7. Yeah this is interesting considering I thought we were full on scholly's. My totally uniformed opinion - Zipmeister brought up Williams' academics for some odd reason. I'm starting to think he is ineligible this year and doesn't count as a scholly?
  8. I believe I saw Jamal Marcus is going to get a try out for the Jets as well.
  9. Meh. The almighty Steelers took Josh Dobbs last year and people were saying something similar. That pick must not be so great if they are willing to spend higher draft capital on another QB a year later.
  10. spelled it exactly the way TB pronounces it though.
  11. Ulysses Gilbert is going to make himself some money if that 4.34 is accurate. Also - is Charlie Frye really faster than Kato?!
  12. booo...Hoban safety commits to the sweaters.
  13. and at Dayton and Akron at that. History has shown you can be a damn good MAC player and still not sniff the NBA. Quite the expectation being placed on him, IMO.
  14. I mean the last I checked you can leave college after 1 season. If he doesn't belong here, why is he still here then? I hope you're right Zipmeister, but the hype seems a tad unsubstantiated.
  15. Here is a complete list of offers for 2019 (at least the recruits with 247 profiles). https://247sports.com/college/akron/Season/2019-Football/Offers
  16. That's my general thinking as well. Hope to come out of OOC 2-2, win the MAC East, and see what happens in Detroit. Though it will be tough this year as Ohio should be about the same and Miami and Buffalo seem to be on the rise. Defense should be pretty darn stout. I was thinking during the game about how stacked we are at LB. Looks like we have 7 guys that can play quality minutes - Gilbert, Bell, Lloyd, King, Bubba, Lako, and even Ward. Something to keep in mind - our offense was likely playing without our top WR in MTB (maybe top 2 as I'm high on McGriff..if he's even on the team), top RB in Sands (maybe top 2 RBs if you include Keyondre), top 2 guys at H Back (though Wolfley could surpass them), and we were playing touch. Many of those sacks on Kato would not have ended that way in a real game. The only guy I remember getting injured was Sampson. Hopefully it was nothing serious.
  17. It was nice to just watch some football. Got a nice deal on sneakers and some compression pants. I, too, got sucked into that damn grab bag and got a Wilson bobblehead. I saw some people getting what looked to be youth sized Lebron Akron jerseys. I personally didn't take much from the game. It was nice to see O'Leary and Gasser hit decent length FGs. One bad long snap which caused a safety on a punt attempt. Lyons looked pretty upset about it. Rich Hall and Wolfley stuck out to me. Booker and Williams better be ready to compete, because he is going to push them. I saw Warren Ball and Jojo on the sidelines. Good to see them there. Looked like MTB was held out, hopefully for just precautionary reasons. I keep wondering about McGriff. I did not see a #8 on the sidelines. I also noticed Darryl Long lined up in the slot once.
  18. Has anyone heard anything about Suggs' status? This article mentions 3 scholly RBs are expected to join the team in the fall. We've got Alce and Floyd as true freshman coming in. I'm guessing the 3rd is Suggs rejoining the team.
  19. I like what I see. Offer list seems to be made up of mostly low-majors, but I guess that beats no other offers. Verbal commits doesn't even show us as offering, so who knows if we are seeing the full list.
  20. and Memphis and Georgetown, among others. I think my reason for being disappointed is I had my hopes up that we were getting a pretty nice player when Parrish was seemingly pushed out. It seems we've mostly struck out (with the current only outstanding offer being Alvarez). Here's to hoping they can save face and close the class with 2 nice high school recruits.
  21. Caleb McConnell commits to Rutgers. What on earth is going on....... https://247sports.com/player/caleb-mcconnell-94511 Only outstanding and uncommitted offer at this point is Alvarez.
  22. TJ Moss has committed to South Carolina. Bummer.
  23. KD has had two players leave this offseason, including a talented freshman and the 3rd leading returning scorer who is getting looks from UConn and Oklahoma to name a few programs. It's just the state of college basketball, IMO.
  24. Which makes me feel better, but is still surprising. These coaches better be working some recruiting magic behind the scenes.
