  1. My mistake! Thats what I get for not looking it up.
  2. Bummer. Sibley to Liberty.
  3. Good for Buffalo. I hope they’re undefeated when we play them ?. Beating Syracuse and WVU on the road will go a long way towards the MAC getting two bids this year if they end up losing the MAC-C. Still have St. Bona and Marquette though. Winning 1 of those 2 and then losing no more than two games in conference play should do the job, IMO.
  4. I mean, we have played Clemson, Illinois State, St Bonaventure, Marshall, and will play Nevada this OOC. 4 of those 5 at least won 1 NCAA game last year. I believe Illinois State was picked to finish high in the MVC. We also play Buffalo twice, who won a tourney game last year lol - and is undefeated, unless they lose to Cuse tonight. I agree the home OOC sucks tho.
  5. Just pulled Lance Leipold's bio. Buffalo actually lost one more game in his first year compared to the year before he took over. He actually even regressed, only winning 2 games in his second season. Didn't even have a winning season until this year (his fourth year). I think its fair to assume there is quite a gap making that jump that these coaches likely have to adjust to. I would imagine that is a large part of UT-C's immediate regression, along with other factors I'm sure (which have been brought up). Let's hope Arth cut his teeth at UT-C and can hit the ground running here. I like the fact that he 1) is a local guy who seems to want to be in the area and 2) isn't always looking for the next job, even though recent history might suggest otherwise. Keeping him here at least an extra year or two if he's kicking ass would be nice and would likely do wonders in making our program more than a flash in the pan in the MAC.
  6. Keep an eye on this guy. New staff offered him (also recruited at UT-C). 3 years to play 2. https://247sports.com/Recruitment/Koby-Perry-121065/RecruitInterests/ Another one we just offered that Arth was recruiting at UT-C. Looks like 3 years to play 3. Apparently originally at OK St. https://247sports.com/player/james-lewis-83495/
  7. Early signing period begins tomorrow and runs through Friday. Total shot in the dark, but I'm setting the O/U for early signees at 6, which may include some non-qualifiers/greyshirts from last year's class like Sibley and Phillis. Also, a good thing for at least this year - and kind of expected - the spring roster shows Featherstone, Lloyd, and Robbie Kelley. So looking at 3 less schollies to fill and have quality players using them, in my opinion.
  8. Coach Mounds has liked two tweets related to Akron naming Arth HC, FWIW.
  9. correction: we had 3 shots on the final possession and missed all of them.
  10. Good info from TP here. Zagorski will be on the staff, whether it be OL and/or OC, but Arth expected to call plays regardless of position. Both of his recruiting classes were ranked top 10 in FCS. https://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/2018/12/akron-football-new-coach-tom-arth-gives-zips-local-star-power-terry-pluto.html
  11. I don't even know why I tried to watch this live. Such a 3rd rate broadcast.
  12. Good answer re: finances. People on here apparently were struggling to grasp that.
  13. Sound blows.
  14. Unsure how much we should expect to hear on the recruiting front after this early signing day. Dead period starts today and runs through January 10th.
  15. FYI - Intro presser is today at 4. Should be streamed live on Akron Zips official facebook page and Gozips.com
  16. Just searched twitter and I cannot find anything about any of our players transferring (at least as of yet), so that is good I guess! Thanks for sharing the Zagorski's twitter @zzx. I'm pretty excited about him.
  17. If you think it has more to do with ESPN, why does it only affect Akron and not Kent?
  18. Meh. We didn't like it when KD took guys and UTC fans don't have to like it if Arth takes a few guys. Literally every other coach does it and we paid UTC their money. I don't think its fair to hold our staff to some higher ethical standard than the rest of the country. https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/college/2017/01/08/western-michigan-losing-recruits-pj-fleck-minnesota/96316750/
  19. I took a look at their commits, and this QB along with his HS teammate WR (who also has/had an offer from K State) are the 2 I think we should keep an eye on. https://www.hudl.com/profile/7799361/Giovanni-Dyer
  20. Found some names seemingly worth knowing about here. Upon further look, I was wrong. 4 of them had P5 offers per 247. https://247sports.com/Player/Josh-Walker-81369/ https://247sports.com/Recruitment/Kohl-Henke-90582/RecruitInterests/ https://247sports.com/Recruitment/Mychal-Austin-106393/RecruitInterests/ https://247sports.com/Recruitment/Genuine-Potts-95582/RecruitInterests/
  21. I don't think anyone would disagree with that in general terms. Just based off of what I can find regarding last year's recruiting class, he brought in at least 4 guys right out of high school who had FBS offers (2 of which has P5 offers). Our best QB this decade was a career FCS back up before transferring to Akron for their 5th year. We shouldn't be quick to write off anyone just because they might have been a level lower.
  22. Bro. 1) KD had previous D1 collegiate experience before coming to Akron. 2) He was not hired as a HC directly from SVSM.
  23. BG's new coach kept 4 of the former assistants on staff, so it doesn't seem unreasonable that we could retain some. #KeepCoachMounds
  24. Absolutely was not revenue neutral. If the game wasn't scheduled, we still wouldn't have gotten paid by Nebraska, which the cancellation was in no way Akron's fault. The University has 1.3m that it would not otherwise have had if that game wasn't scheduled. Its not like we swapped one for the other. Circumstances beyond anyone's control screwed us and Larry W. turned lemons into lemonade. BTW - we did get half of the Nebraska payout, which I think is a solid alternative to battling it out in the courts and potentially getting it years down the road.
  25. Larry Williams scheduled the SC game and we got paid 1.3m that the program/University otherwise wouldn't have had. That gave us enough money to pay for TB's buyout (assuming it is needed and he doesn't take a job with the U a la Scarborough), Tom Arth's buyout, and STILL have money left over. Larry talked a little bit this year about how football really is pretty much a break even sport with the TV deal and some other things the U gets that it otherwise wouldn't have without football. John Groce's contract is also dirt cheap for the first two years. We are saving A LOT as a result of KD deciding to leave us. Seems a bit odd to single out football but no complaining about the other sports, especially the non-revenue generating ones.
