I don't think anyone would disagree with that in general terms. Just based off of what I can find regarding last year's recruiting class, he brought in at least 4 guys right out of high school who had FBS offers (2 of which has P5 offers). Our best QB this decade was a career FCS back up before transferring to Akron for their 5th year. We shouldn't be quick to write off anyone just because they might have been a level lower.

Bro. 1) KD had previous D1 collegiate experience before coming to Akron. 2) He was not hired as a HC directly from SVSM.

BG's new coach kept 4 of the former assistants on staff, so it doesn't seem unreasonable that we could retain some. #KeepCoachMounds

Absolutely was not revenue neutral. If the game wasn't scheduled, we still wouldn't have gotten paid by Nebraska, which the cancellation was in no way Akron's fault. The University has 1.3m that it would not otherwise have had if that game wasn't scheduled. Its not like we swapped one for the other. Circumstances beyond anyone's control screwed us and Larry W. turned lemons into lemonade. BTW - we did get half of the Nebraska payout, which I think is a solid alternative to battling it out in the courts and potentially getting it years down the road.

Larry Williams scheduled the SC game and we got paid 1.3m that the program/University otherwise wouldn't have had. That gave us enough money to pay for TB's buyout (assuming it is needed and he doesn't take a job with the U a la Scarborough), Tom Arth's buyout, and STILL have money left over. Larry talked a little bit this year about how football really is pretty much a break even sport with the TV deal and some other things the U gets that it otherwise wouldn't have without football. John Groce's contract is also dirt cheap for the first two years. We are saving A LOT as a result of KD deciding to leave us. Seems a bit odd to single out football but no complaining about the other sports, especially the non-revenue generating ones.

IDK if he's a homer or not. I've seen his tweets come up on my timeline, and I can tell you he's an idiot.

I guess that opinion re: Bowden is fair, but disdain for the Bowden firing shouldn't be held against him. BTW - Don't look now, but the Browns have a franchise QB and are in the playoff hunt!

Meh. This is kind of a bad post. I don't even need to look it up to guarantee 90+% of that list had some sort of collegiate experience prior to being named HC at the D-1 level.

Everyone should give him a chance and support him 100% until its determined we shouldn't. We as a fan base need to be better. It'll only make us more attractive in the future. I'm not much a fan of media myself, but there seems to be plenty of approval from the move in that realm.

Tough to get answers when there isn't anyone to ask them, eh? We're criticizing Larry W. when we have no clue what did and didn't happen behind the scenes. George was too busy showing off his scarlet colored shoes to a "fan" dressed in buckeye gear at the game yesterday. Looking forward to the introduction presser to see Arth and maybe Larry address some of these things. It would also be nice to get some info on coaching hires. I was at the basketball game yesterday and was thinking to myself I'm glad Arth wasn't there to be introduced. He's got work to do with recruiting and putting together his staff. Hopefully thats what was going on.

Good. Looking forward to your constant crying disappearing from the football board. Funny that you want to cry about finances when Getsy would have been by far the most expensive option (assuming he even had interest). Funny you want to cry about his HC experience when Getsy has none. You're also pretty clueless being that you didn't know he was HC at JCU. Tough to take your opinion too seriously.

Team's biggest need is better interior play IMO. Riak has size and athleticism, but he doesn't bring anything except an outside shot once in a blue moon. Sayles might have the best all around potential, but so far this year his game has regressed. No great rebounder or inside threat to score. I would look at Kostelac, TBH. I think he's looked improved in his very limited time so far. Crowd energy was also pretty disappointing yesterday if you ask me, especially considering the opponent.

I wonder if coach Arth is going to give a rally cry at the basketball game today a la Terry Bowden ?

Welcome Coach Arth! Now the fun begins!

Per Football Scoop. Yes. Ugh. http://footballscoop.com/news/scoop-staff-tracker-2018-19-new-head-coaches-staffs/

I have to wonder why there weren't some serious hours being put in right after this first happened? Numerous other schools have lost their HC after ours and have already found a replacement.
-
That account better be taken with a grain of salt, imo. All of their "news" seems to be reported almost right after the same thing is posted on this site. As for the Chargers WR coach, I remember a media person brought his name up at the beginning of the process. I don't recall who, however.

Interesting take considering this happens literally every year. See this year with NDSU's coach going to K State and last year with Scott Frost going to Nebraska, among numerous other examples. I hope that isn't holding Larry up. Regardless, you don't have to let the public know that you are interviewing someone/are taking an interview.

Of course hiring the right guy is most important, I hope my post wasn't interpreted in any other way.

Not unexpected, but still sucks. We need to end the coaching search ASAP and stop the bleeding.

bunch of damn floppers

Post from the UT-C message board: "I heard Arth and Akron have come to terms." Who knows how reputable the poster is, however.

Nice talking point. My initial thought is why are we so sure that Mount and JCU always have vastly superior talent to their opponents? Mount, while they do have a great reputation, is in the middle of nowhere. JCU is in Cleveland, but there is plenty of competition here with various universities. Capital and Otterbein are in Columbus. JCU has a solid reputation as well (London Fletcher and various guys on NFL staffs/Front offices), but the program definitely improved significantly when Arth was there. They were a .500 team before he became HC and were one right after he left (though this year was better). Lance Liepold, Buffalo's coach, previously from UW-Whitewater, was the equivalent of the Kehres coaches at Mount Union. I think he's shown that it *can* be the coaching, as that hire seems to be working out alright for Buffalo. Maybe I am wrong, but we seem to be in a fickle spot. I don't think we can't afford top coordinators at big time programs any more (Yurich at OK St, Getsy at Miss St) with our financial situation and the ridiculous inflation of P5 assistant coaches, unless they want to take a pay cut. Buffalo having the success they are makes me feel better about a dominant coach at the D3 level. Arth's lack of success at the FCS level is something that should be questioned, but if its explainable then its explainable. I've read he just got his OC from John Carroll back on staff, who just finished a season 4-0 as interim OC at EKU (another FCS school), so I would think his offense will look better no matter if its with us or UT-C. He also fired a few other coaches who weren't getting the job done, something I'm not sure TB ever did. His stop at the FCS level before coming to FBS could have been the perfect place to get his feet wet with taking it up a notch and recruiting. Hopefully the learning curve has flattened out for him if he is indeed the guy. He seems to have the respect of a lot of people. I'll support whoever, assuming the hire doesn't come out of left field somewhere, like the RB coach at Texas Tech or something (looking at you BG). I just hope Larry W does proper due diligence and at least interviews a few different candidates.

Let's go Zips!

TB took our program to the highest level it's ever been by just about any measure you want to look at. Sh!t, its the end of the season and Northwestern played in the B1G championship and is ranked! Saying any chump could've done it is ridiculous, because nobody else has. TB did a great job getting our program back to its peak, we just need a new guy that can take us up a level, because unfortunately the peak is pretty depressing. There is quite a bit of talent on the roster (assuming the new coach can keep it). The recipe is right to take the program up a notch and do it quick.
