Hoping we won't need any of that gimmicky stuff if we can keep Keyondre/once he is here -
2018 Commit Akron East DT Ramon Fields
LZIp replied to zipsoutsider's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Damn that is a big boy. He stuck out on offense when I was watching Floyd's tape. He seems to move fine for a guy his size. Put on some muscle and put him at NT and all you really need him to do is plug up the line and hold his ground. -
Informative. Please share the others if you see them. Would like to see the new guys in charge try to expand use of the Info.

Don't think I've read read a better Zips preview, even without the Warren Ball mention. I don't know what a majority of those advanced stats are, but am not surprised that we look to be close to dead last on some things I can guess, like rushing stuff rate on offense and rushing stuff rate, adj. sack rate, and general efficiency on defense.

Gotta turn this one off. Going to be the largest loss of the season. -

Coach rode TDM for way too long there. This one is over. -

We need to get our crap together but not all of those travel calls were legit. UTA player also just took 3 steps across the lane on that layup and nothing was called. -

We have damn near 4 travels already. INEXCUSABLE -
Obviously this can change some, but I looked at 247's top Ohio prospects and it seems to be a down year in the Akron/Canton area. The only one I saw in the top 53 was Nate Bauer out of Hoban, and he came in at 44. http://247sports.com/Season/2018-Football/CompositeRecruitRankings?InstitutionGroup=HighSchool&State=OH

The offer list is quite large and all of them certainly aren't listed on here. As of today we are aware of 3 commits for the class of 2018. Keyondre White, 3 Star RB from FL. 247 link Hudl link Devanier Floyd, RB from Akron East. Hudl Ronald Beasley, assuming recruited as an OL, from FL. Hudl

2018 Commit: Devanier Floyd, RB, 5-9, 205, Akron East

I can't keep up with all these East guys...Is this the one you were saying you think is better than Suggs? -
2017 Spring Prospectus Lots of mistakes in there......and I'm not sure I'd take some of that depth chart seriously, but I figured I'd share. I'm assuming at least the players not participating in spring ball is factual. I bet you all can guess one of the players. Hint: He's a popular topic of discussion on here about being under utilized.

If only we had some media members that "gave a damn" and would investigate and report this type of information, right @Balsy

This TE talk has me thinking. I wonder if the coaching staff would explore moving MTB back to WR. He underwhelmed some there I think (certainly wasn't bad though), but he was only a true freshman and sophomore at the time. Lane and Natson essentially forced him to switch positions last year in order to see the field. With the addition of Long at TE, and assuming he is solid, I think it might be a good idea to find a way to get as many playmakers on the field as possible, especially with the questions at WR going into the season.

See my post above his. Assuming he is showing that Snodgrass is not listed on Lackawanna's roster.

Appears Snodgrass went the JUCO route. Not sure how we all missed this before..

Akron Zips v Kent State Golden Flashes: The MAC Championship
LZIp replied to NWAkron's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
It was shocking to me as I didn't even remember him as being an impact type of player and credit to him for sticking around so far, but Richaun Holmes from BG was actually drafted by the 76ers in the second round of 2015. -
I agree that the battle between Kato/Johns should be intriguing. What I don't agree with (unless I am misreading things), is the notion that there is a true QB battle assuming Woody is healthy. He is the guy if healthy come the first game IMO.

DE still looks like a glaring need..we really need to find a guy or two here. I think they can survive with Boxen and Jest and the other guys as depth on the interior. Looks like Otis Mounds' son is now listed on the roster. WR is a huge question mark. A known commodity in Wolf is back, but there is nothing known outside of that. Gladney could step up, but he rarely saw the field last year. Bickley showed some potential as a true freshman before falling off his Soph year and then leaving and then coming back. Coney is what he is I think, just a guy. I like Smith's potential based on what we saw last year but he needs to develop into something other than a go-route runner. Even so, the position group is senior heavy. Its hard for me to count on any other of those other guys who haven't seen the field yet.

I was trying to think of a reason why I disagree with it and I can't. I mean the top 4 teams already DO get an advantage based on how the play in the regular season. Trying to keep bias out of it, I think it is probably fair to give the regular season champ, top 2 teams, or whatever baseline you want to set as much as an advantage as possible when we play in a one bid league. There are also other benefits that come from your best team(s) winning....best team representing the conference, hopefully more respect gained by playing teams close/winning, and better atmospheres at the Q for the conference tournament. It really does suck that a great season can all be a waste if you don't bring it every game in the conference tourney. But there are teams in better conferences also feeling the same sting (Illinois State) that realize they are at a disadvantage and are going out and doing something about it. I saw Brad Bournival making a point on twitter during Selection Sunday. Basically saying why not put another MAC team in over some of these horrible 15 or 16 seeds. Its a good point, but also a dangerous game to play as we are one of the little guys and are constantly at fight for at least a chance in every major sports championship.

Well it appears to have worked Mr. Snark. I'm assuming they used rotary phones to communicate back in your day.
