  1. Right. Should have clarified just the quoted part from the prior year in the link.
  2. Well...I think I am using "sketchy" in the sense that the business model just not make sense to me.I linked a pretty good article below from Forbes detailing it.Seems they are mostly running on investor money for the time being, which is understandable to start. They expect to turn a profit in Chicago and give it about a 50% chance to be profitable in Toronto in 2017. They are also reporting 6 figure revenue, which could mean 100k or 900k. Either is pretty small I think. The 50% chance to turn profitability in a market of 6 million people does not seem like a good sign to me either. There are 4 teams in Toronto - the Raptors, Blue Jays, Maple Leafs, and Toronto FC. Meaning they need 8,000 subscribers in a market of 6 million people, or roughly 1/10th of 1% to turn a profit and they are not sure if they can do it. They are saying they need a little under 2,000 subscribers PER team PER market to turn a profit. So Jason Llloyd, the Cavs beat writer, himself needs 2,000 subscribers and those subscribers would generate a whole 100k in revenue. Now I'm not a genius but in the NBA season you have 41 away games, plus playoff away games, plus a few preseason away/across the state games. Heck..you could even throw in summer league games if they want to send him there. I'd have to be convinced that all of that travel isn't close to 100k in itself across a whole season. And I sure doubt Lloyd is jumping ship for to work for free or a pay decrease. FINALLY they are getting some good writers, I will admit that. HOWEVER, why would I or anyone pay for their analysis when you can get it for free from various other sources? Its not like whoever now writing for The Athletic all of the sudden has access to insider information that will make people want to pay for their service. http://www.forbes.com/sites/darrenheitner/2017/01/10/why-2-1-million-was-invested-in-a-sports-news-subscription-site/#c1405e142c41
  3. I guess you could classify this as marketing. Bowden will co-host the a radio show on WAKR from 10-2 tomorrow, with UA and other local special guests. My guess is you will learn some things from this. http://www.gozips.com/sports/fball/2017-18/releases/20170221f27jxn
  4. Troy surprised last year, and looks to have even bigger expectations this season. http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2017/2/20/14622230/troy-football-2017-preview-schedule-roster BTW - can't help but think of a team we are all familiar with when reading their previous year preview.
  5. Another embarrassing error by GT? Color me shocked. Speaking of the ABJ, Jason Lloyd is leaving them for some media start up called The Athletic, whose business model seems sketchy at best. The sole revenue source is dependent on paid subscriptions. Not a good sign when one of your top talents is taking such a risky move to get out.
  6. I know. We must win to keep our at large and high seeding hopes alive!
  7. Well crap.
  8. Kwan needs to take the corn rows out after this game. Clearly bad luck.
  9. Hitman is indeed in the house!
  10. 3rd(?) foul on Poke was a bad call. Hall hooked him.
  11. Utomi does. not. miss.
  12. Over 300 early bid student tickets sold. Have to say that is more than I would have guessed.
  13. BIG if true.
  14. More nice ink from Terry Pluto (again). http://www.cleveland.com/pluto/index.ssf/2017/02/keith_dambrot_at_akron_waffles_wins.html#incart_river_index
  15. Dang. It appears you are right or at least close. Not sure why I was thinking it was much smaller. For those interested... Here is a link to the EY Statement of Work: https://www.uakron.edu/budget/docs/ua-sow-dec2016.pdf Here is a link to the actual report: https://www.uakron.edu/budget/docs/ernst-and-young-report.pdf
  16. Probably a good read for all of you who enjoy talking RPI, KenPom, BCS, FPI, whatever. Made it about half way through. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-ncaa-is-modernizing-the-way-it-picks-march-madness-teams/?ex_cid=story-twitter
  17. This time grad students are the target of cuts http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2017/02/university_of_akron_will_save_129_million_over_two_years_by_reducing_financial_support_to_graduate_assistants.html What was the deficit again?
  18. Archie Miller. I'd advise you not listen to that shitty ass station. You'll save some brain cells.
  19. Not bad points. I don't really care about road trips though. Do we REALLY have a regularly scheduled crossover game with Toledo, or is that just the way its worked the past few seasons? It's not as if they are a permanent crossover game even though I do like playing them. Also couldn't care less about playing BG every season either. Just want Buffalo, OU, and Kent on the schedule every year. UCONN has been pretty bad recently but they just rehired Randy Edsall who is their winningest coach of all time, won a couple of Big East titles, and took them to a BCS bowl in his first stint there. I think I'd be okay with it if the basketball games happened like above and our cut of TV deal/Bowl money didn't decrease (which is unlikely). The MAC is already in last place when it comes to coaching salaries, and Akron is near the bottom of that.
  20. I like the thought of them in football and I also like the thought of extorting them for some basketball games.
  21. Wow. What a selfless and seemingly unprecedented move by Wilson.
  22. They could almost certainly do that for the free Chick-fil-a sandwich coupons they hand out after games as you are walking out the door. IF they still have a partnership with Chick-fil-a that is.
  23. Live by the 3, die by the 3 (almost). Didn't get to watch the game live but came home and watched the replay just fine on ESPN3 with my FireTV. I about turned it off with 10 minutes left until I finally gave in and checked twitter and saw that we came back and won. Thoughts: Shooting 3s are fine. Forcing 3s are not. The offense looked so much better once we started running it through Big Dog like we have most of the year. It helped that he finally starting making some shots as well. Noah REALLY gets a free pass on here. I will give it to him that he is a good "floor general" (Antino is much more under control this season by the way), but he isn't great at defense and it virtually a non existent threat at all offensively right now. Missing wide open 3s and wide open bunnies. A W is a W. The streak is still alive. Beat Kent!
  24. It worked pretty well for the Gateway District in Downtown Cleveland, although obviously bigger numbers there.
