Remember when everyone was freaking out about QB depth a few weeks ago? Will be interesting to see who it is though.

Everyone is always quick to throw Milwee under the bus. BOWDEN has been the one who has made comments that show zero regard for the defense. You don't think it would be corrected if the HC had an issue with it?

Thanks for the clarification. Makes more sense now. I would hope that he would recover fully in the offseason though.

2018 SF/PF Pete Nance of Revere
LZIp replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Lehigh and Wyoming saw the potential. We are supposed to be better. We should be seeing the potential of the players in our own backyard. CJ McCollum just sign a 106 million dollar contract. We took CJ Oldham instead. I'm not trying to be overly critical because even though it stings, whats done is done. I would just like us to accept the mistake(s) and try to learn from it, not make excuses. I was thinking of starting the thread on Pete a few weeks ago actually. It is encouraging to hear that the coaching staff is showing interest. He has a handful of D-1 offers currently, but none from a program the quality of Akron's. -
2018 SF/PF Pete Nance of Revere

Good to hear! 1- Our program should be at a point that we can get top area prospects over other mid-majors. If the football program is already being held to that standard (and rightfully so), the basketball program sure as hell should be as well, especially when we've missed on program changing players. 2- As has been repeated ad nauseam on here, Nance was never offered. There is fault in not trying or "missing" on evaluation. What the other mid majors do is irrelevant to Akron. We are supposed to be better. Nance and McCollum were not highly recruited. -
TW was a top 4 QB (Terrell,Woodside, Rush, Woody) in the MAC when healthy. How do people not see this? Don't see how he wouldn't be a top 3 next season. So I definitely don't see how you guys expect 2 players who have never played a down for Akron somehow overtaking him.

Would be lyin if I said I wasn't jealous edit: on 2nd thought, its not as good as it looks as TX is 6-6. Shocked Shaka isn't doing better.

You would be one of the last people I would think of that would agree for some sort of consolidation with Kent. Merry Christmas Keener and to the rest of Zipsnation.

Take this crap to another thread.

We need to not pretend that WMU has it all figured out. The stars aligned perfectly for them this season. Last year they played MSU AND OSU. Two "body bag" games. We have also played or will play Pitt, Syracuse, Indiana, Iowa St, and Illinois. Hardly "body bag" games. edit: i went ahead and looked at next years schedule for WMU. USC and MSU.

New commit: Coventry WR/CB Dusty Burkhart

I disagree, but you're negative over everything. Merry Christmas! -
Not worth its own thread but here is the only MAC coach poaching I've heard of so far.

Litmus test for UTEP's name recognition: Can you name ANY of the 9 teams that have beaten them already in this short season besides UMES without looking it up? If the answer is no, which it is, they have no name recognition. End of discussion. We would not have gained any "recognition" for beating a 2-9 mid major.

Maybe Youngstown St should take our spot in the MAC. They are better in basketball and football! Merry Christmas!

2017 Commit: Nick Johns, JUCO QB, 6-4, 230

The Hustlebelt write up http://www.hustlebelt.com/mac-football-recruiting/2016/12/23/14025072/2017-akron-football-recruiting-juco-qb-nick-johns-commits-to-the-zips-former-virginia-cavaliers -
I've never considered UTEP a name team. Took a look at their history and it doesn't seem to warrant it either.

I thought the same thing to be honest.

Coaching staff may want to take a look at one of these guys? GA State had 7! players decommit in two days. http://fanbuzz.com/story/one-fbs-school-has-had-seven-recruits-decommit-over-the-past-two-days/

Considering the nature of the positions, you should win that bet.

DBs will be fine. I am confident there will be a nice jump in improvement with the LBs. Something that was missed on this board is that Gilbert was named first team all MAC and he certainly has room to improve. King and Davis have to be a slight improvement at worst over what was out there last year. DL is a huge question mark, more so regarding DE and depth IMO. I think Boxen and Jest can be solid MAC players.

Regarding DBs, keep in mind Darian Dailey (Rutgers) and Mark Ellis (WVU) will both be eligible this season.

The parents of potentially the top QB taken in this year's draft met at UA. http://mmqb.si.com/mmqb/2016/12/21/nfl-draft-2017-mitch-trubisky-north-carolina-tar-heels-quarterback

Have a feeling it has more to do with GT than it does the ABJ. Am I the only one who notices about all he does is take videos? Talk about going above and beyond.
-
I would expect one of the RBs (maybe both depending on Ball) to make an impact and hopefully a DL will separate themselves as both positions are a need. I don't think there is much opportunity elsewhere outside of special teams when considering what is coming back at certain positions/the recruits talent.

^^ Lugo has actually de-committed from Akron. He does still list Akron as a front runner however, along with FIU. Also not that it really matters, but I think Jordyn is being recruited to play DB.
