It's definitely something that would need considered. I'd imagine some sort of cost/benefit analysis would be smart to do. The cost of alienating/potentially driving away a few fans to create a better environment for all, which could lead to more first time attendees from word of mouth, students staying longer, and more people coming back. I wouldn't figure many people who sit in the grass are anything other than occasional at best attendees anyways. You're really not apart of the atmosphere at all sitting over there. I don't like getting too much into these issues because they are what they are. I know we have talked on here regarding segregation of students at basketball games and efforts to make a single student section. I think the University has mostly moved that way. There are a lot more hurdles to deal with at a G5 University. Half of our seats at any stadium are GA, which really lets students sit wherever, which by default makes the student section look worse in size and energy, which makes it a less enjoyable atmosphere for all. But you can't get rid of the GA seats because that's where most of the walk up sales come from, they're the cheapest, and are good value for the price.

I think the student section attendance (not passion) has been slightly better compared to years past, not that it is saying much though. It was mostly full for the first half of the home opener and then cleared out a half time as usual. App State section was definitely weaker. The Athetlics Department is doing something I believe we have suggested before on here that helps keep them there. They are giving the promotional items out at halftime rather than the beginning of the game. Student attendance isn't good, but it is also not as bad as it looks. I'd wager that probably twice as many students sit on the hill instead of the student section. Give the students 2 sections right next to each other (it may be that now, I don't know), and force ALL students to sit in those. Don't let anybody sit on the grass until there is actually a need for it, which will probably be never. It will look better, and I'd imagine what little energy the student section has will begin to rub off onto others and make it a more fun environment for all. Make it an event that's fun to go to. Sometimes you gotta force it.

Was a heck of a game. Toledo is scary in the MAC. Pick your poison..Woodside or Hunt.

I've heard there is a real possibility it happens. I'd imagine Hilltopper in general has better/more sources than I do, but I heard straight from somebody pretty high up at the U, obviously isn't a guarantee though. -
I wouldn't consider MTSU in Nashville. Murfreesboro is as close to Nashville as Akron is to Cleveland.

He's most certainly going in the top half of the draft.

Dammit...thats really unfortunate. I guess a silver living is that Moore was a pretty nice recruit IIRC. Give him plenty of more time time to develop.

I don't have anything to add right now. I'm sure I'll take some time to come up with some constructive thoughts, but I just want to say thats its nice to see a constructive discussion happening regarding this topic rather than the same old back and forth talking in circles.

I think it was more of a product of the coaches putting him in the right situations to succeed more than it was Kessler himself. Refreshing to see on both accounts however. Makes me think there is something there to work with Kessler and there is a competent coaching staff in place.

I can't remember where, but I recall seeing something recently that Summit county actually was the only NE Ohio county that saw a population increase within the past x amount of time. I'll try and dig it up.

New QB on the Zips Radar?
LZIp replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
I personally haven't seen it myself from on the field play, but he has the measurables and athletic ability to warrant top program offers.I don't see it, but would happily take him. -
I have a similar story as kreed's as well. I took two of my friends Saturday who went to maybe one UA game a piece during their time in school. One had to lose a bet to me in order to go and the other has been gradually becoming more interested as I basically force it upon him. I think both enjoyed their time even though they lost and both would be open to attending again. Some exciting football was played Saturday. Even my father, who is a casual sports fan at best, texted me about how he saw the butt-whooping we gave Marshall. As has been stated on here before, there is no reason to get all worked up about attendance. Keep winning and people will take note. Each of us need to do our best to get other people to attend who might have been turned off during the RI years and show them that its different.

I would agree in this case. I was buying my tickets and saw somebody in line who ran in the marathon claiming her free ticket.

Teo is out for the year. I suspect much more playing time for Jatavis. Just stay healthy Hitman!

Brown had a nice showing. The Chargers ended up losing though.

Looking at the schedule at the beginning of the year, I think we would all be very pleased with coming out of OOC 2-2. If we went 1-3 I would feel that the program wasn't taking another step forward. The MAC East is looking like crap this year, I'll be disappointed if we don't win that. I'd also be thrilled with getting 1 of Toledo or WMU as they each appear to be the class of the conference this season. Agree on Lako. He made a nice play and would like to see him get more of a shot at our weakest position. Nice to see that Brown's injury wasn't too bad as he was playing. I know Marcus is battling a shoulder issue seemingly constantly, but would like him on the field more if possible. He is really our only playmaker on defense right now and he made zero big plays yesterday. App State is a good team, have to give them credit, but our defense still has a ways to go. Boxen being out hurt us. I didn't notice Hamilton at all yesterday. Maybe he played, but he didn't make a play. Seemed Williams and Copeland were in there the most. Lane was getting straight double teamed for the first time in his career (I believe). I know he was on the 2nd interception for sure, among other plays. Good learning experience for him, Woody, and the coaching staff I'd imagine. Good news is we start conference play against sorry Kent and Miami. Gives us even more time to work out kinks/improve/hopefully get healthy until we get into the meat of our conference schedule. Edit: As for the Bell topic, I absolutely believe he should be facing some sort of punishment. Now I don't think it should be severe over a scuffle with another guy. Maybe 1 or 2 games. You don't pay attention to other happenings in college sports if you think otherwise. There is no innocent until proven guilty. How many of the Baylor players have been proven guilty of rape? Was Tree ever charged with anything? What about the Brionte Dunn who BuckZip alluded too? I could go on and on. Right or wrong, it's a privilege to play collegiate sports, not a right.

I don't really know much about NIU, but the pundits picking BGSU to walk away with the East this year was just lazy, IMO. Lost starting QB, top 2 WRs. One who is in the NFL, the other playing for the #1 team in the country. I think somebody else was kicked off as well? Starting RB gone. All great players. New, first time head coach who only has positional experience at the collegiate level. Doesnt shock me much at all that there is an apparent drop off, but a drop off of this level..yikes.

Yeah, that Wisconsin loss isn't looking so bad now that you see what they did to Sparty @Sparty

Don't know why I am even wasting time addressing anything related to the attendance discussion, but I would bet actual attendance will equal the announced attendance all season, as it clearly was for the VMI game. Last year was the inflated season to help meet attendance requirements for the rolling 2 year period. If you recall, the 2014 season was the year in which we had the worst attendance in the NCAA, where I am assuming actual attendance figures were used. The University gave (bought) all recent alumni season tickets last season, thus able to use the "paid" attendance number. I haven't heard of anything like that this season.

The Browns recently cut Scooby Wright and then signed him to the practice squad. I believe I saw they are honoring his rookie contract and is still receiving ~$26,000 per week.
