Bear in mind that Kentucky beat Indiana 3-0 in Lexington on October 3rd.

I say it every year: Do away with the first round bye. Either increase the field to 64 (which seems quite a lot out of 204 programs), or reduce the field back to 32. Everyone plays round 1. In no other sport is gaining a seeding so impactful.

Kentucky Wildcats are the sh/te! JJ Williams is the real deal. See him if you can.

Abdi Mohammed had a nightmarish outing when Syracuse visited earlier these season. I love redemption stories. Colin Biros is turning into yet another Akron passing machine, joining a long list of too many to mention. The most recent on that list is Adam Najem. That seems a fair comparison for now. Morgan Hackworth possesses superb tactical awareness, almost as if he were the son of a coach. No, wait.... Personally, I really prefer the back line of Milanese, Strachan, Ritaccio, Mohammed. Coach Embick is pulling all the right levers.

Those will surface eventually, in one medium or another.

Correct. Known for their Communictions program. One might think they would find a way.

OK. Where is the watch party? Seriously.

To my shock and dismay, head referee Brian Miller is an instructor of referees. https://www.ussoccer.com/referees/resource-center/contacts/ohn Brian Miller should have simply informed # 21 that he was wasting his own time by harassing the GK. And if that is a legal soccer play, why does not everyone employ the same tactic every match, all match long? He is very fortunate no score resulted from that Indirect Free Kick. Absurd.

Horrific officiating. Deplorable.

2018 Zips Representing the USA
fknbuflobo replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Those are exquisitely tasteful new uniforms.......... in which to receive a humiliating international spanking. ENG 3-0 USA. It was not as close as the score might suggest. USMNT has lots of work to do. (I really do like the new uni kits.) -
"A scary moment occurred with 8:46 remaining in the opening half when Rider goalkeeper Pablo Gatinois collided with his own player on a battle for the ball in the box. He was down on the field for several minutes before carefully being carried off the field on a stretcher, but Gatinois is expected to be released from the hospital this evening to return home with his teammates on Friday."

Yes. It looked rather grim. His collision with his teammate 10 minutes earlier looked pretty bad as well. Tough night.

Akron soccer mourns the passing of Steve Parker
fknbuflobo replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I am chagrined, but nonetheless grateful, to be taught policy regarding flying an official flag at half staff. Rest assured that my miss-statement was born from respect for the man remembered, rather than from disrespect toward our nation's traditions. https://www.va.gov/opa/publications/celebrate/halfstaff.pdf Those even tangentially associated with an educational institution such as UA should remain receptive to new knowledge. And I am not too old to have learned a lesson. Go Zips. -
Akron soccer mourns the passing of Steve Parker

American Soccer has lost one of it's best and brightest. The US flag at the NCAA match vs. Rider should fly at half mast. I truly hope that someone with juice will read this and make it so. Steve parker was an astute student of the game and a true gentleman. He communicated and read about futbol incessantly. The best Parkerism I recall is one that makes sense today (at least to me): "Defense is too important to leave to underclassmen" It was typical for Freshmen to start by playing Forward and work their way back as they matured. The 1986 squad (NCAA runners up) was comprised of all seniors along the back four. Unlike the Zips of the past 20 years, the 1980s squads were primarily defensive sides. They gave no more than .5 GPG for 10+ seasons So, they would get their goal and then just "Park" it. Parker's squads were very traditional English 4-4-2 and physically imposing (bordering on dirty) forcing referees to make difficult booking decisions every match. Akron Soccer would not be what it is now but for the contributions of Steve Parker. -
Morgantown - MAC Tourney

Marcel had an excellent Spring season. During this past summer, Zajac was tearing it up in both goals and assists. Many of us expected the stat stuffing to carry over into this season. But then the foot injury happened. He is now back in form. -
I would guess that the margin was even slimmer than that loss. The home loss to West Virginia was all it took.

Zips are peaking at the right time. Squad improved 100% over past month. RPI is #14 and SOS is #10. 10 wins total with 4 Top50 wins. Plenty of pedigree in the past decade. I say Zips get one of the last 4 seeds and do not play until weekend.
