  1. Jared Embick to Louisville......NOT!!!
  2. Thank you, Jared Embick for choosing to see the very best in us. We are eternally thankful for your faithfulness. It is now time for UA AD to respond in kind. Akron Soccer must be afforded ALL the Resources and Support commensurate with a perennially elite program. We should not envy any other programs for anything. Larry Williams, recognize the best card in your hand, and play it accordingly. Louisville is unlikely to come for our Basketball coach, or our Football coach. But Louisville evidently really likes our Soccer coaches. There is a message there, Larry. Be smart enough to see it. Invest In Excellence!

The time for torches and pitchforks has not yet come.
  4. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akron_Zips_men's_soccer Stu Parry started Akron Zips Soccer program in 1954. Some current powerhouses are relative youngsters. Penn State 1911 (wow) Syracuse 1920 Clemson 1934 Duke 1935 UCLA 1937 Connecticut 1939 Virginia 1941 Maryland 1946 North Carolina 1947 Akron 1954 Hartwick 1956 Michigan State 1956 St. Louis 1959 Denver 1961 Washington 1963 Boston College 1967 Indiana 1973 Stanford 1973 Notre Dame 1977 Creighton 1979 Louisville 1979 UAB 1979 Wake Forest 1980 Kentucky 1991 New Mexico 1996 Michigan 2000
  5. Right On, Brother! Keep making observations and asking questions. Keep this in perspective. Although Futbol may be somewhat new to you, it is not a new sport. It is older than America’s “pastime” of Baseball. All the history and tradition comes with that. Furthermore, UA is among the oldest soccer programs in America collegiate athletics.
  6. Joey Paulus is good. I saw him twice last year, and once this year. Mo Leftys; Mo Better. Believe you me that it is no coincidence that so many left-footed players come to Akron.
  7. You are correct, sir. Now, an offensive player who is left-footed may often play on the right so that he can cut inside for lefty shot. The further back an outside player is positioned, the more likely he will play on his predominant side. Lefty Defender is more likely to drive to end line to cross with left foot. You are asking the right questions.
  8. If I had my druthers, every player would red-shirt and stay 5 years, like Ezana Kahsay.
  9. Yep. I remember. He really did look like a recruit at the time.
  10. You are right on the money, my friend! We. Train. Pros. The MLS and USL is littered with former Zips. And we are not done with that yet. Not by a long shot. That is our calling card. As Kentucky is to NCAA Basketball, Akron is to NCAA Soccer. Emotionally speaking, I want underclassman to stay. I get attached the these guys. And I desperately want to win championships! But it is a good thing for the program, every time a player gets one of those Generation Adidas deals with guaranteed six figures $. Better advertisement for the program is not even for sale, and is therefore priceless!
  11. Maybe. Maybe not.
  12. The eyes of a mad man.
  13. How long before Wil Trapp in Europe somewhere?
  14. @UAZipster0305 Very good recap. At first blush, I thought Biros kicked the Maryland player in the face. I agreed with the PK decision. Upon watching it a few times now, I am not so certain. That PK definitely altered the match. Yes. Zips must learn to deal with physical and/or direct styles. And they did that for most of the post season. Maryland was very well coached on beating the Zips. Yes. The future is bright as long as Embick is at the helm. He has proven himself. If the Zips keep all their underclassman, we are poised to win the championship in 2019.

  17. Now official. CP to coach LA Galaxy .
  18. You are already a fan of World Football? And you are just now coming to Zips? Welcome! But where in Hell have you been?
  19. Wow. You guys really are new to this. No Big Deal. There are fewer rules in soccer than in other sports. Any infraction in one's own Penalty Area will result in a Penalty Kick by the opposition from the "spot" 12 yards from goal. PK is the vernacular. Our guy kicked their guy in the face, while both were in the Penalty Area. That is (understandably) a foul. Colin Biros did not connect much, but it was enough. I have seen exponentially much worse, some really gruesome stuff. And that kind of stuff is what we all want to avoid. Ref could have let this one go, but he didn't. By the letter of the law, it was the correct call for the Ref to make. BTW, dimensions on Penalty Area, Goal Area, Center Circle and actual Goal are some of the only things that have rigorously standardized dimensions. Field length and width have a general range. Wikpedia is all over this one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penalty_area
  20. Well said, ZipsVoice.
  21. Congratulations Maryland Terrapins! 2018 NCAA National Champions! The better team won tonight, which is not always the case in this sport. I would still much rather win undeservedly than to lose while deserving victory. Let's be clear on that point. But Terps were the better side, if not by much. The most important tactic on the night is how Maryland anticipated Akron's passing lanes so uncannily in the middle third. They successfully clogged our possession game. I guess that should be attributed to Coach Sasho Cirovski, who has seen a thing or two in NCAA Soccer. Both PKs awarded were good calls. Colin Biros needs to run through that ball, carrying it on his chest out of the box. Ben Lundt needs to get his hands on that ball as he goes to ground, not try to play it with his feet. Tough breaks, but fair calls. I would argue with the straight red card to Carlo Ritaccio. It was definitely a foul. No doubt the referee's interpretation is that the offensive player had a clear path to goal, and that Ritaccio was last line of defense. That is how the rule reads. I have not the heart to quote chapter and verse right now. Somebody else look it up in the NCAA rule book. I think Ritaccio just as easily could have instead received a yellow card there. I am tremendously proud of our Staff and of our Players. No one in this program should hang their head for more than 24 hours. Spring ball will be here sooner than we think. And 2019 may be an even better season. Go Zips!
