  1. Akron formerly Fire USFL "The University of Akron has accepted the group’s offer for the Rubber Bowl, which, according to Mason, will have a rent and renovation cost of $6 million to $8 million to start. A construction firm has been chosen to renovate the facility, upgrading its seats, locker rooms, press box and restrooms. They are looking into a new scoreboard that can show video replays, which would be quite an improvement over the glorified construction sign that was there when the Rubber Bowl was abandoned in 2008."
  2. "After heavy rain and thunder made its way through Can't Friday night, the team moved inside to the Field House—except the lights wouldn't come on. " Who turned out the lights?
  3. CNN SI Predicts 4-8 Terry Bowden, Akron: 4-8. The Zips went 2-22 under Rob Ianello, but the former Auburn coach has assembled an accomplished staff. Expect improvement.

Michael Kish, a 6-foot-5, 230 lbs. tight end-defensive lineman from Brentwood High School in Pennsylvania, and Kyle Stahl, a 6-foot-5, 205 lbs, quarterback from St. Henry High School, were on hand."

  10. And then there is this.. SB Nation -- so take it for what it's worth -- nothing... Zips are #107.. Marshall even lower!! (115) What's Your College Football Teams Realignment Ranking?
  11. all interesting stuff.. but where does that leave the Zips??? Looks to me like it's on the outside looking in. Various boards have been slamming the Zips recent record as though we have sucked since the move.. to 1A. So I did some research today. Not sure this helps or hurts the cause: The truth is, the Zips are 105-140-3 in Division I.. and that includes the 2-22 the last 2 yrs... back that out and we are almost .500 103-118-3. Not as bad as one might be led to believe. Zips Overall Record The NCAA site shows overall including all divisions 486-471-36 (.508) NCAA Site This site says 487-496-37... NCAA Most Wins The problem is perception -- and as a Communication Major, I can confirm that perception is reality.. and recent history has not been good... most fans are too young to remember when the Zips were decent to average. this makes me feel a little better .. not in Top 25 Worst Ever.. Bleacher Report -- so whatever.... 25 Worst Ever... Note who is Number 1!!!!! and this Overall Worst Winning %

  13. New Parolee for Can't State "Senderoff will also hope that Tabb can be the next in a long line of successful second chances Can't State has offered to athletes with troubled pasts.Tabb left Wake Forest in September of 2011 after he pled guilty to charges that he stole an iPod from a classmate’s dorm room and later tried to pawn it. In a telephone interview on Thursday, he did not shy away from talking about the poor judgment that led to those legal problems. “It was a lesson learned,” said Tabb, who was 19 years old when charges of breaking and entering and possession of stolen goods led to his dismissal at Wake Forest. “I made a mistake, I accepted responsibility and I learned from it. I suffered the consequences.” Tabb was reportedly ordered to enter a deferred-prosecution program that included 12 months of supervised probation and 50 hours of community services. Once those were completed, prosecutors agreed to dismiss all charges against him."
  14. Zips Win All this chirping about based ball’s Opening “Day” just makes us pine for five months from now, when college football will accomplish in five days what baseball crams into nine or so. Is it too early to start making out our Week 1 mayhem wish list? Probably! Thursday, August 30 • South Carolina @ Vanderbilt. James Franklin taunts Jadeveon Clowney after the Commodores pull off a late go-ahead touchdown, and the ensuing fracas manages to convince SEC officials to suspend the South Carolina stalwart. Seeking revenge, Steve Spurrier departs Nashville with five or six of Franklin’s scholarship quarterbacks, to feather his depth-chart-fiddlin’ nest back in Columbia. No one is truly satisfied, but no lessons are learned. • Minnesota @ UNLV. TCF Bank revokes Golden Gophers’ stadium sponsorship after team refuses to pay $5,000 in ATM fees following return from Vegas. • UCF @ Akron. Zips win, and Terry Bowden gets free jousting privileges at all Medieval Times locations for life. • UMass @ UConn. In their FBS debut, the Minutemen rout the Huskies, relegating Connecticut to the MAC by a previously unnoticed realignment provision. All involved parties agree this is probably in everyone’s best interest.
  15. CNN SI from the bottom of the article "That’s Terry Bowden on line 2 for you, Jose."
  16. TYPICAL This happens every year. It was typical for any long-suffering Akron sports fan. We have been conditioned to expect to be disappointed. Close, so close, but choked when it matters most. ALMOST -- not quite but almost there. There for the taking if we could just.... almost got it.... nope.... there it went... I "hoped" we win the MAC tourney. I "hope" we beat Northwestern.... but my expectations did not match my "hopes." Been disappointed too many times. After all, we are Akron....
  17. Both are pay to host.... CBI $35,000 then $50,000 then $75,000. CIT $30,000 "The 24-team CIT's fee is $30,000 per game. The 16-team CBI requires $35,000 for a first-round game, $50,000 for second-round game, and $75,000 for the semifinals" CBI CIT Fees

  21. Been reading alot about what C-USA and MWC are planning to do... merger/no merger etc. There seems be some suggestion of some new conferences forming soon. I also read, on this board, about Eric Mansfield (Channel 3) tweeting that he had heard of "back room discussions" about making a pitch to the Big East.... I usually stay away from this topic as it tends to veer away from reality.. but I look at what UA has been doing recently and I can't help but wonder what the end-game is? $65 million Stadium Terry Bowden Chuck Amato Jim Tressell
  22. In fact.. Football Scoop says Bowden was the only one officially offered.... "Akron: This afternoon we spoke with sources very close to the process. After those talks, we believe that Terry Bowden is the only candidate that was technically offered the job." I think Winters was "exaggerating" the meeting. As were other reports.
  23. How about this guy? If we can't get Div II maybe Div III -- He beat Larry Kehres a few times in a row..... and we definitely qualify as (lower-level FBS). Pittsburg (Kan.) State downed Wayne (Mich.) State for the Division II crown; the Gorillas had last won a title in 1991. Wisconsin-Whitewater downed Mount Union (Ohio) for its third consecutive Division III title and its fourth in five seasons. You have to figure coach Lance Leipold is going to get a chance to coach an FCS (or even a lower-level FBS) team sometime in the near future. He is an incredible 72-3 in five seasons, and Whitewater currently is riding a 45-game winning streak. In the NAIA final, St. Xavier (Ill.) downed Carroll (Mont.); Carroll had won six of the past nine titles. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news...ght_away_121811
