  1. this is the NCAA tournament....Soccer deserves respect for that achievement Season ticket holders would be horribly inconvenienced if the game were not at 7 or 7;30 the Grand Canyon game was a disaster.....for attendance.... Zips need their loyal fan base in the stands at 7 or 7'30...go, zips
  2. http://www.collegesoccernews.com/index.php/awards/team-of-the-week/1003-college-soccer-news-national-team-of-the-week-week-ending-november-13-2016 Nick Hinds gets some well deserved recognition
  3. from the buffalo head coach Head coach Stu Riddle: "We saw why Akron was ranked as the #1 side in the preseason polls today, they were exceptional and controlled the first half. I was proud of the second half showing from our lads and felt when we scored that we might find our way back into the match but it wasn't to be. The 8 seniors have been outstanding during their four years here and i can't thank them enough for everything they have given our program."
  4. Jonathan Lewis also could have been honored.... tremendous improvement at a new position for Nick Hinds Plantation, Florida is my favorite city in florida.
  5. also, Harvard...is currently 22 in rpi... they , similar to u-mass lowell....are not eligible for ncaa's as their season was cancelled to sexual harassment... if zips stay at 27 in rpi....they would be 25th highest ranked RPI team in ncaa 48 team draw ncaa chooses top 16 teams to get first round byes they then select next best 16 to host thursday night...and 33 to 48th ranked teams hit the road there are not 32 eliglible ncaa soccer teams that are better than the zips.... strongly disagree with Chris
  6. strongly disagree that thursday night game will be at Indiana or Notre Dame http://rpiupdatemenssoccer.blogspot.com/search/label/RPI Rank Indiana and Notre Dame are 13 and 15 in current rpi...they both should get a top 16 seed and be off until sunday Michigan State is 19 in current rpi....they will play thursday night but should face the 2nd or 3rd weakest team in 48 team field Akron is currently 27 in rpi....I think U Mass Lowell is not eligible for ncaa (they have been around #4 or rpi) due to not being div. 1 for 4 years... in theory, teams 17-32 in rpi should host a thursday night game... NCAA has ignored RPI many times...but I will be disappointed if the zips do not host a home game. I just hope that they can avoid having to play Maryland in 2nd round. Maryland is 18-0-2 and has won every game since Sept. 9. they are clear #1 team
  7. Selection Process The 2016 Division I Men’s Soccer championship provides for a field of 48 teams to compete in a single elimination tournament. Twenty-four conference champions qualify automatically; the balance of the field is selected at-large by the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Committee. The teams will be seeded so that 16 of the 48 teams will receive a First Round bye and automatically advance to the Second Round. Selection Show | Monday, November 14, 2016 at 1 p.m. ET on NCAA.com The 2016 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship bracket will be announced the Monday prior to the first round of competition.
  8. Akron 2 Buffalo 1 2 goals by Nick Hinds assists by Sam and Jonathan 25-4 in shots 9-2 in shots on goal 15-0 in corner kicks This season has its ups and downs....much credit to the resilient team... They took care of business this weekend. Congratulations Tremendous improvement during the season by Jonathan Lewis and Nick Hinds I also have to give a lot of credit to Coach Embick and the coaching staff. Moving Nick Hinds from left DB to the midfield made a huge difference for this team and moving Goncalo Soares from a holding mid position to right def. back was also a very underrated move. Looking forward to the draw tomorrow and see what challenges await this team. Tremendous job by the best sports team on the akron campus.
  9. It was outstanding that so many starters only had to play 45 to 55 minutes last night. it was great that Jared had the confidence to rest Stuart and Sam at the start of the 2nd half and that their replacements (Ezana and Marcel) both delivered goals in the 2nd half. Goncalo Soares may not be the fastest soccer player but he delivered a perfect pass on the 2nd half header goal

  12. The Indians magical run to the 7th game of the world Series correctly had many Beacon Journal writers focused on our favorite baseball team. I am always glad to see the zips featured in articles by Marla Ridenour. I hope this helps attendance for the MAC tourney. The zips always play better with a large crowd. http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/ua-men-s-soccer-senior-adam-najem-s-role-less-visible-but-no-less-important-as-zips-try-to-qualify-for-ncaa-tournament-1.725754?cache=18961415304345%2Fnews%2Fohio%2Fcss%2Fresults.css%2Frk%3D0

  15. game is actually at Bowling Green (according to BGSU web site)
  16. http://www.gozips.com/sports/msoc/2016-17/releases/20161104o11dzs After the lightly attended 4 pm game, I hope that there is a big crowd on Saturday night. If Bowling Green defeats Buffalo on Saturday night, this November 5 game is likely to be the last game that Adam Najem, Brad Ruhaak, and the other 3 seniors will likely ever play on cub Cadet field.
  17. One indisputable fact that is a takeaway from the Grand Canyon game...Akron should never schedule another 4 pm game on a weekday. I know it was a result of a football game being moved to Wednesday for TV purposes. However, many season ticket holders could not come to a 4 pm game. Students did not have time for both the football game and the soccer game. The soccer student athletes were the ones that did not benefit as they did not have the normal crowd support that they have earned and that they did deserve. Moving the game to 4 pm on a weekday to accommodate football...was not a good decision for zips mens soccer

  19. I am obviously home in Tennessee following on game tracker... glad to see Stuart to be able to enter the game with Robby and they both made a difference quickly 60:17GOAL by AKR HOLTHUSEN, Stuart, Assist by DAMBROT, Robby, goal number 3 for season....akron leads 2-1 59:17Corner kick by AKR HARTER, Skye [59:17]. 59:01AKR substitution: HOLTHUSEN, Stuart for LEWIS, Jonathan. 59:01AKR substitution: DAMBROT, Robby for KAHSAY, Ezana.
  20. Looks like Skye and Reggie replaced Sam and Nick at halftime Will Stuart Holthusen and Danilo Radjen be able to return from their injuries and be available for the MAC tournament? 45:00For AKR: #1 LUNDT, Ben, #15 KAHSAY, Ezana, #10 NAJEM, Adam, #11 LEWIS, Jonathan, #21 HARTER, Skye, #13 BELANA, Pau, #12 LARYEA, Reggie, #16 WIEDT, Shane, #20 RUHAAK, Brad, #25 SOARES, Goncalo, #4 DE VERA, Niko.
  21. I think they play Toledo at 7 or 7;30...that was why the soccer game time was changed
  22. Hopefully, today will be a very good day....for Northeast Ohio...a convincing win for the zips soccer team...and then the Indians win the series. Go, soccer zips....Go Tribe.
  23. I don't see the zips in person as often as many of you. However, the lineup that faced BGSU had nowhere near the talent as last year's final four team BGSU - Shane Wiedt and Brad Ruhaak...as Danilo has been injured last two matches College cup...Danilo and Brad... Shane has improved greatly but he is not at Danilo's level Left Def. back...Andrew Souders vs. Niko De Vera...Niko played behind Andrew last year. Andrew was all league multiple times. No comparison in talent level of the 4 defensive players Forward - Stuart was at the top of his game last year in the NCAA's. Stuart played very little against BGSU. Stuart has dealt with knee issues all year so the center forward position does not have the same talent level. Midfield - Richie Laryea was the #6 or #7 overall pick. His speed opened up so much space for Adam, Sam, and Stuart. As ZIPME87 said, Nick and Jonathan will improve greatly but they would not be a top 7 draft pick after this year. Holding midfield...Victor will go down in Akron history as one of the best holding midfielders to ever play at Akron. Pau Belana and Goncalo Soares have gigantic shoes to fill on both defense and offense. This team can still do well....but they need Stuart and Danilo back healthy and they need to have the same 11 players available for the remaining matches in the regular season and post season. To say that the talent is very similar.......is a statement that I can not agree with
  24. I think that a large % of people from the Copley/Fairlawn areas will be traveling to BGSU for this game. I sure do hope that the Copley/Fairlawn folks supporting Brad Ruhaak and Skye Harter are much happier at the end of the game than the copley fans pulling for Chris Brennan. I hope that both Brad and Skye have big games.
