TennZip replied to UAZippers's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
SIU-E last year....knocked off Michigan State (which akron did not last year)...they tied in regulation and won on PK's they went to top 16 seed Butler....and won on PK's.... then in the round of 16, they lost 2-1 to a very good Wake Forest team. St. Louis ....has always been a hot bed for excellent junior soccer....Edwardsville gets a lot of kids from the St. Louis area. They are not an unknown school for soccer. SIU-Edwardsville will raise the bar for other teams in the MAC. Having the certainty of a 6th team in the MAC and having another consistent top 30 RPI team in the league to compete with Akron will help coach Embick in recruiting. -

SIU-E won 2 matches last year in the NCAA's and made it to the round of 16. I believe that they defeated Michigan State on PK's. They will help Zips soccer in the RPI. Tremendous upgrade over Buffalo. Edwardsville is 525 miles away from Akron. I do hope that the mens soccer team will be able to fly to St. Louis when they play at SIU-E. -
http://www.jardinefh.com/obituaries/William-Berger-4/ The University of Akron Men's Soccer family is deeply saddened by the loss of Billy Berger ('08 - '12), who passed away Sunday, May 28th at the age of 27. While some may have already been informed, we wanted to forward his visitation and service information in the event that they be able to attend his services. Billy was team manager during his time with the Zips, and became an important part of the National Championship team in 2010. Most recently, Billy was the Director of Soccer Operations at SIUE, helping lead them to the NCAA tournament 3rd round this season.

Sam Gainford - St. Louis FC U23 in the PDL https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-articles/college-players-to-watch-in-the-2017-pdl_aid41828/gallery_id167/f-sam-gainford-saint-louis-fc-u23-(akron)_11 F Sam Gainford, Saint Louis FC U23 (Akron) While Gainford didn’t quite reach the same heights as he did in the 2015 season, the former Liverpool youth talent is a quality flank player that’s progressed well for the Zips. Like many others, he’s entering his final season of college eligibility and can use the PDL this summer to elevate his status of signing a pro deal after Akron.

Zip_ME87...thanks for all of the research and starting this topic Ezana is mentioned in a top drawer article today https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-articles/di-college-players-to-watch-in-the-npsl_aid41861 F Ezana Kahsay, Erie Commodores FC (Akron) One of Akron’s first players off the bench, Kahsay contributed four goals during his sophomore season last fall, making a total of 21 appearances. If he can leverage the summer with the Commodores into improving in front of goal, it could lead to a big year for the Eritrean.

Continued good, positive press for Zips soccer alum Victor Souto. http://www.riverhounds.com/news_article/show/791927?referrer_id=2869741 After Victor Souto saw the ball hit the back of the net, he dropped to his knees in celebration. Teammates rushed to his side, hugging and patting the rookie on the back. Making the moment even more special were the people watching a continent away. Souto’s family, who live back in Brazil, make sure to view each Hounds game online and cheer on their favorite player. “For me, every performance I have is for them,” Souto said. “When I scored, I just fell on my knees, thanking God and my family for all of the energy they were sending me. I felt very blessed.”
