  1. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer/college-national-top-100/men/2016 Victor is selected by Top drawer soccer to be the 32nd best sophomore, junior or senior in College soccer and drum roll, please....they list Captain Adam Najem as the 2nd best player in all of college soccer. Georgetown has a midfielder listed as the 3rd best player in all of college soccer. We all know Victor and Adam would much much rather have a 2nd star at the end of the year....rather than pre-season recognition.
  2. http://mac-sports.com/news/2016/8/23/MSOC_0823160003.aspx similar to last year, the zips are not picked by all coaches to win the regular season title
  3. action photos from zips twitter

  5. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-articles/2016-tds-mens-preseason-best-xi_aid39686 Very happy to see Victor, Akron's very good holding midfielder recognized on a pre season all american list. Adam and Victor have truly been great 4 year starters Hopefully, Jon Lewis and Jesus Perez can join Nick Hinds on the freshman list when they do a post season all freshman team and wow....3 of the first 4 opponents are represented like crazy...Georgetown-1 on first team , 1 on 2nd team and 1 on freshman ; Seattle - one on first; one on 2nd ; UCLA - wow, how can they not be preseason #1 ? - 2 on first team ; 1 on 2nd team ; 2 on freshman team

  7. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-articles/2016-conf-previews:-maac-mac-+-mvc_aid39687 I did not want to create a separate topic for top drawer previewing the MAC conference.....so I will put this under the pre season ranking grouping.... Hopefully, Jonathan Lewis, Marcel Zajac, Sam Gainford and Stuart Holthusen will combine very well to address the one question mark area in the article
  8. #10 Georgetown lost their last exhibition last night at #17 Virginia ...2-0
  9. Akron's season opening opponent...Georgetown...plays at Virginia tonight in an exhibition. On aug. 13, G'town played at Elon and they played to a 1-1 tie. On Aug. 16th, G'town played at Duke and they played to a 0-0 tie. I think that the G'town goalie was first team pre season all american by college soccer news. Goals should be scarce next Friday night.
  10. I like how they are showing the starting lineups on twitter

  14. Last year's captains
  15. Since the zips play Michigan Friday night and always play several big ten opponents, I thought that the fall schedule was an appropriate place to post the big ten projected standings. Penn state fans can't be happy to be predicted to finish behind Wisconsin. Michigan forecasted to finish right in the middle of the pack. http://www.bigten.org/sports/m-soccer/spec-rel/081716aaa.html
  16. Will Parchman tweeting about Akron soccer
  17. When I posted this last night, it was late so I did not make any comments. One thing that I do not like about All American teams.....is that they always tend to pick attacking midfielders and they ignore the holding midfielders. They also tend to pick right and left defensive backs rather than choosing center backs. If they picked an All american team with 2 holding midfielders on each team and 2 attacking midfielders, then Akron would have had a 2nd pre-season all American as Victor Souto is clearly one of the 6 best holding midfielders in college soccer. The Center Def. backs and Holding midfielders are vital to a winning team and this year's Akron team will have 4 very good starters in Brad Ruhaak, Danilo Radjen, Victor Souto and Jesus Perez/Goncalo Soares/Pau Belana (I am making the assumption that one of those 3 will be the starter opposite Vic).
  18. UCLA has 2 on 2nd team Indiana and SMU also have 2 spread out among the 3 teams Seattle will be a tough matchup on the 28th

  20. http://www.goldengrizzlies.com/sports/m-soccer/recaps/081416aaa.html looks like Oakland (the monday zip opponent) lost 3-1 at Bowling Green on Saturday night in their first exhibition
  21. one thing that I have to mention about this great group of seniors....5 of the 6 last December.....were named to the academic all MAC teams. Of the 5, two had 3.69 GPAS, one had 3.73 in a very tough major (mechanical engrg) and one had 3.83 (and English is not this very smart young man's first language) and the great Tyler Sanda had a 3.93 GPA in biology. These young men are truly student athletes....that bring great pride to the University of Akron.
  22. A tremendous group of seniors. The two four year starters (Victor and Adam) have had incredible careers....with many more wins in their future. http://gozips.com/sports/msoc/2016-17/releases/20160814fj3oy6 "The first few days of training with the heat have been a little bit more inconsistent than we want, but the trainings have been intense," Akron head coach Jared Embick commented. "Monday is for perspective of where are we at based on an opponent in Oakland, who won its conference, and will be a good measuring stick. What we're looking for as coaches is to see where we have to go and how we have to improve heading into the opener."
  23. http://www.gozips.com/sports/msoc/2016-17/roster all 12 new players are listed now on the roster. I misspelled the zips new portuguese midfielder's first name yesterday. Manuel Cordeiro is listed as a redshirt junior.
