  1. Zip_me87 did a great job of posting tweets by Ives here is the actual article by Ives http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/66/united-states/2017/02/21/32933962/dynamic-wingers-help-us-under-20s-trounce-haiti?ICID=HP_FT_3 Lewis' shifty moves and quickness wreaked havoc on the left flank, There were several players who stepped up their play in the second half, but Lewis and Lennon were pivotal to the turnaround. Lewis kept steady pressure on the Haitian defense, with quick dribbles and dangerous passes. Lewis continued his impressive rise in 2017. A late Generation Adidas signing ahead of the MLS draft, Lewis wowed at the combine, leading New York City FC to trade $250,000 in allocation money (a record price for a draft pick) to trade up and select him with the third overall pick. Lewis carried that momentum into U.S. U-20 camp, where he played his way onto the qualifying roster. On Tuesday, Lewis looked every bit like a player who will be tough for Ramos to put back on the bench after starting him in place of Real Salt Lake's Sebastian Saucedo.
  2. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-soccer-articles/lennon-hat-trick-leads-us-to-4-1-haiti-win_aid41488?utm_source=TopDrawerSoccer+Newsletter&utm_campaign=6a836f9e80-General_+2-22-17&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_8340315a79-6a836f9e80-32963477 article is littered with good comments about JLew The Americans finally hit back in the 28th through a lovely bit of ingenuity from newly installed left winger and recent NYCFC draftee Jonathan Lewis. The former Akron man replaced the Sebastian Saucedo/Emmanuel Sabbi rotation from the Panama match and was largely the U.S.’s most dangerous threat in the attacking third. In the 28th minute, he snuck inside his marker and into the box, where he was scythed down to earn a penalty Lennon hit to draw level. and Lewis came in for Saucedo, and the latter move certainly paid dividends While center forward Jeremy Ebobisse’s struggles to finish continued, he was lifted by the performances of his pinching wide players in Lewis and Lennon.
  3. I am very much in favor of this. The NCAA championship would be in the spring. Right now, it is only being discussed for div. 1 men. With only 1 game a week in the fall, students would do better in classes and the quality of play would be much higher as the coaches and players have more time to prepare for the next opponent. I think that injuries would be reduced as these young players would not be playing games on Wed. and Saturday. Currently, the coaches can't start working with the soccer players until 10 days before their first game in the fall. That is not enough time to get prepared. The spring season is pretty meaningless right now. In Akron's case, Jared and his staff can't start coaching the players in the spring until Monday Feb. 20th and they have their first exhibition game on Saturday Feb. 25th. That short preparation time leads to poorly played games and probably results in more injuries. With the advent of MLS academies and MLS sponsored teams in the USL, college soccer needs to change or we will continue to see more and more talented players bypassing college soccer.
  4. I am very happy for Victor Souto. He is in the starting lineup today for the first preseason game for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. The Riverhounds returned their top 3 holding midfielders from last year's team. Victor is working hard and I know that all zip soccer fans are happy to see Victor in the starting lineup. The Riverhounds have another game tomorrow morning so their coach has said that each of the 20 or so healthy players would only play 45 minutes in each game.

  11. I know that Akron has not yet released their spring schedule....... However, it is worth reminding everyone that the zips will be playing the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Saturday Feb. 25 at 1 pm at Highmark Stadium That is 2 short weeks from tomorrow. I am sure that Nick Hinds, Ben Lundt, Niko deVera, Nate Shultz, Sam Gainford, Stuart Holthusen, Manel Cordeiro, Pau Belana, and many other zips will be working hard and want to see a lot of zip fans make the short trip to Pittsburgh. Dec. 2016 Univ. of Akron Summa Cum Laude Graduate Victor Souto is working hard and learning for the Riverhounds as he competes for a starting position with the riverhounds. Saturday, February 25 UNIVERSITY OF AKRON Highmark Stadium | Pittsburgh, PA 1 p.m. FREE ADMISSION
  12. hopefully, Adam will make the NYRB pay for the cheapskate ways... they have not been kind to Akron alums
  13. nice article from the Philadelphia Daily news http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/thegoalkeeper/Union-sign-midfielder-Adam-Najem-from-New-York-Red-Bulls-academy.html "He's an intelligent, humble, quiet kid, but when he gets on the field, I would say he makes a lot of noise, especially around the goal," Union manager Jim Curtin said. "He's a guy who can play a final pass, scores a lot of goals in practice, scored a lot of goals in college as well. He has that skill set that you can't always teach or coach - some guys just have a knack around the goal." "I'm not a guy who cares too much about size," Curtin said. "I'm more concerned with a guy who sees the game a little different. He sees it one and two passes ahead, so he sees where the next ball should go at all times [and] is aware in tight spaces."
  14. http://www.gozips.com/sports/msoc/2016-17/releases/20170207hgdc56 has a quote from Adam....thanking UA and a quote from coach Embick
  15. http://www.philadelphiaunion.com/post/2017/02/08/philadelphia-union-acquire-midfielder-adam-najem congratulations to Adam
  16. I think that the USL team in cincy had avg. attendance of over 17,000 a game last year and had 30,000 for a playoff game. They really have built a fan base in that area.
  17. Will Parchman of top drawer soccer is impressed
  18. hopefully, since this topic is about roster changes...this is the best place to post very nice photo of Chino and a nice writeup Best wishes to this nice young man...very happy for him that his family will get to see him so many games http://www.uicflames.com/news/2017/2/1/mens-soccer-adds-three-in-spring-semester.aspx
  19. On a positive, upbeat note, I love the twitter photos of the recruits being shown as off the ground and all looking very athletic. Very creative....and of course, I love the packed grandstand in the background. and thank you to Coach Embick and his staff and the SID for getting this info out on Feb. 2nd and of course giving us hope that more athletes will be coming in the upcoming months I know that all of us got spoiled in the pre generation adidas and pre homegrown years when akron was signing 5 top 25 kids. It is important to remember from last year's group of new players...that Jonathan Lewis was not anywhere to be found in top drawer soccer or college soccer news top 50 or top 100 lists. Those 2 websites don't always get it right. It is safe to say that Coach Embick and his staff know soccer talent and have forgotten more about soccer than some of the writers rating talent for top drawer soccer. Also, remember that Ben Lundt was a last minute sign from a soccer college that does not have a stellar pedigree. On this date, I am thankful that the signing info was released within the first 2 days of the signing day and I want to wish a warm welcome to the 7 freshman and Morgan Hackworth. You have all come to a college with many fans that love Akron soccer.
  20. very important sentence in the release Embick anticipates the addition of several student-athletes to the Zips' 2017 signing later in the spring, please follow GoZips.com to further details.
