http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-articles/ncaa-tourney:-mens-third-round-preview_aid38463Predictions from J.R. Eskilson at Top Drawer soccer. He predicts a rough weekend for the ACC with Notre Dame, North Carolina and Wake not reaching the elite 8. Astute observation on his part about how important that Victor Souto is to the zips (I know that I should let sleeping dogs lie...but it is unconscionable that Victor was not chosen as one of the top11 players in the MAC). -
I am just glad that he is on the radio giving the zips soccer team some good publicity. He is obviously not a super college soccer expert with his comments about all of the players wanting to get a degree. The diehard fans know that Perry Kitchen and Dillon Serna were one and dones and that Akron has been hurt badly by players leaving early. Terry Pluto wrote several excellent articles in the 2009-2012 time frame about the team. Hopefully, he will write something in the Plain Dealer over the next few days. If his appearance on the radio show gets 100 to 200 more fans to attend the SMU game, every little bit of home field advantage will help this team of hard working, talented young men in their path for that coveted 2nd star.

http://www.wCan't State.org/news/story/45030quote from the article: "I think once in a while, Akron fans need to say, 'We need to be very grateful for what we have here.'" And, most of the games are played here. "Their average attendance this year is over 2,100. I just think it's something that's going on right under our nose here. Big time college soccer right here in Akron." (could just as easily be a quote from ZipME87 or Fknbuflobo )

Skip-zip....I went back and looked at 2009 and 2010... 2009...rd of 32...vs. s. fla 2,700 ; rd of 16 vs. stanford 2,806 ; qf's vs. tulsa 4,254 2010 ...rd, of 32 vs. w. VA 2,825 ; rd of 16 vs. the hoosiers 3,225 ...qf's vs. California...snow and brutal cold 3,442 I know that the plain dealer gave much better coverage to the soccer team in 2009 and 2010. Their coverage this year has been non existent -

last week, I kept seeing messages ...500 student tickets gone, 250 more gone....100 more available , were there 850 students at yesterday's game? I saw that total attendance was 2,025 Here is how Akron's attendance compared to the other 16 seeds 1) Wake Forest 2,699 2) Clemson 1,941 3) Georgetown 844 4) Akron 2,025 5) N. Carolina 1,036 6) Syracuse 1,120 7) Notre Dame 222 8) Stanford 1,709 9) Ohio State 851 10) Maryland 2,737 11) Seattle 1,100 12) Creighton 2,212 13) Denver 1,103 14) S. Santa Clara has been the upset team of the tourney so far. In first round, they defeated Cal State Fullerton 3-0 (Fullerton had upset Santa Barbara to win conference tourney) as I started typing this, Santa Clara led #8 Stanford 1-0 after 55 minutes stanford just tied it at 57 minutes 6 yellow cards combined in first 58 minutes

both teams are good...2 losses between them...Denver is 17-0-3 and SMU is 14-2-3 let's enjoy this win for a while....Jason Wright for Rutgers was big ten offensive player of the year and Mr. Radjen and Mr. Ruhaak both did a great job in the back. Great to see Danilo back healthy. Hopefully, Sam Gainford can come back from his injury. Sean Sepe came in like a house on fire and probably had his best game as a zip. Stuart Holthusen has had an outstanding month of November. Goncalo Soares and Victor Souto were both very good with their passes....and Victor was a ballhawk on defense. very happy that so many players could get rest after 60-65 minutes. Zip soccer after Thanksgiving !!!!....I know that makes fknbuflobo quite happy. Very happy for the coaches and the players...

my two Cents- Victor Souto and Adam Najem have been publicly stating since Brazil that this Akron team can win it all. I really admire both great leaders. The coaches and the team leaders have created a family that believes....Go, zips ...and thanks to the Beacon for giving the zips some publicity (not holding my breath on the Johnny Manziel Plain Dealer to realize that there is a great college team in Akron) highlights from the Beacon article: The Zips have had their eye on a top-four seed and another national championship since August. “We created a family, we’re more mature. We worked hard through these 20 games. I think we’re ready to get a national championship,” junior midfielder Victor Souto said. “We knew if we could get a top-four seed we’d play all of our games at home going into the Final Four,” junior midfielder Adam Najem said. “Just the environment around here, having the best fans in the country, one of the best stadiums in the country, it’s really an advantage for us. Anyone who comes here is going to be nervous to play us at our home field.” UA is 8-2-1 at home this season, with its only losses to Wake Forest, seeded No. 1 in the tournament, and UCLA, unseeded. The Zips’ average attendance of 2,115 ranks eighth nationally after finishing 14th (1,825) a year ago. “The two years we went to the Final Four [2009, ‘10] we had all three home games and that helped,” UA coach Jared Embick said. “That’s a position of strength for us, that’s where you want to be in the tournament. If we can get everyone there, get the crowd behind us and make this a difficult place to play, it’s only going to spur us on to hopefully do what we really want do, which is win another national championship.” The Zips feature a balanced attack that has Najem and sophomore midfielder Richie Laryea leading the team with nine goals, redshirt sophomore Sam Gainford with eight, Souto with six and sophomore Stuart Holthusen with five, four in the past three games. The Zips are 8-1-1 in their past 10 matches and Najem cites chemistry and confidence as the reasons. “The team chemistry has really evolved since last year,” Najem said. “The team has an overall belief that we can win this thing. Everyone has the confidence we can do it and that’s showing on the field now.”

http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/soccer-men/d1/ncaa-mens-soccer-rpithis is the final NCAA rpi it is different from gaucho dan syracuse was #3 in final rpi...gaucho had them at 6 SMU really received no love from the NCAA. Denver was 18th in final rpi...and was seeded #13 SMU was #12 in NCAA Rpi....but was in effect...seeded #20 by the NCAA SMU has to win a match before they face #13 Denver Coastal Carolina at #22...could be tough round of 32 matchup for the tar heels Very happy with the #4 seed for the zips. Tremendous credit for the tough schedule and the players and coaches for for working hard and producing a 15-3-2 record.
