  1. Senior Tate Robertson of BG and Junior Chris Brennan (Copley native) want to make up for many years of frustration and they want to whup up on this young zips team. Zips need to play much better than they did against Syracuse https://bgsufalcons.com/news/2018/10/4/mens-soccer-akron-comes-to-town-on-alumni-weekend.aspx
  2. VCU 2 UMass 0 in a major national game on wed. night...Kentucky improved to 9-0-1 with a 3-0 beatdown of Indiana (Indiana had won 9 straight after losing their opener to Wake Forest)...kentucky defeated Louisville 3-0 earlier in the year
  3. Pitt 1 Columbia 0 NC State and James Madison 0-0 Denver 1 Creighton 0 2 ot Notre Dame 3 Northwestern 0 SIUE improves to 7-1-2 with a 2-1 win over IUPUI West Virginia 2 Binghamton 0 Butler and Evansville 0-0 Butler came into the season ranked #9..but they are now 2-6-2
  4. I am not a Michael Bradley fan...I agree strongly with Travis Clark
  5. I like to think of myself as a long time fan. I don't buy the Kentucky one and done argument. JLew left after one year. Joao left after one year. The 2017 team had Stuart, Sam, Niko and Nate...just to name a few and was a final four team and attendance was not glory days like. The 2016 team was captained by Brad and Adam...who both definitely came up thru the program. Richie Laryea left after 2 years. The players that left were most top 5 picks and were being offered over $150K a year. Kentucky is having 5 of their top 6 players leave every year. That is not the case with Akron. The 2010 team was an exception to that as Perry, Kofi, Zarek, Darlington, et al were all top 5 draft pick caliber. We are never going to have the student support like we did in 2009 and 2010. Social media and the internet are too much of a distraction for students these days. Many college football teams are struggling to get students to the games. The AK rowdies had a charismatic leader back in those days. Porter was a charismatic crowd gatherer.
  6. This team is halfway thru the regular season. It was very discouraging to read Jared's comments. Getting beat to the ball, not hustling back on transition, turnovers, too many long passes, ball watching...that is not Akron soccer. They need to bounce back quickly. Bowling Green is going to be a very hostile environment. The zips are going to get harassed by the fans and the opposing players. The Falcons are going to play ugly soccer but they will punish the zips if the zips don't get back when BG sends the ball long. Copley native Chris Brennan has not been able to elevate BG to MAC contenders....but I can guarantee that he will want to beat the zips to every ball and score many goals against the powerhouse home town team. The 2 holding midfielders, the center backs and the outside backs for the zips need to rely on each other...and talk constantly. BG has a senior (Tate Robertson )that was named to the college soccer news and Top drawer soccer team of the week for scoring 2 goals last week. Robertson and Brennan are going to want to make their seasons and kick some dirt and crap all over the mighty zips. I believe in the talent and skills of the players on this team. However, the effort and the passion and the desire to work as a team has to be much better than what this team of 11 showed last night.
  7. https://cuse.com/news/2018/10/1/mens-soccer-hagmans-career-night-leads-orange-to-victory.aspx "This was an important night and I'm delighted for our guys because they have worked so very hard," said Syracuse head coach Ian McIntyre. "For them to finally get a result for their efforts is pleasing. This is a tough place to play against a good team. I thought we managed the game in the second half very well. We took chances when they presented themselves."
  8. https://www.ohio.com/sports/20181001/university-of-akron-mens-soccer-zips-fall-3-1-to-syracuse “We had too many turnovers and essentially gave up the same goal three times,” head coach Jared Embick said. “They were rebounds and we were beat to the ball for tap-ins. We had a setback. It was back to who we were when we started the season. We were bad in transition, soft on the ball and looking for other people to get our job done.” "When they got the ball forward, he beat us down the field,” Embick said of Hagman. “He caught our midfield ball watching and outran us and worked hard.”

When I look at buflobo's lineup....I do like the depth of the zips some good players that can contribute...that are not in the lineup Colin Biros Seniors Ezana Kahsay and Morgan Hackworth corner kick guru Skye Harter underrated Braden Petno lots of very good depth in mid field and at forward Faisal Ghaffur can also contribute I sure do hope that Pacheco gets a start...he showed some mad skills at VCU

  19. Zip_ME87...thanks for taking the time...to look up the RPI ranks... the Syracuse game is going to be huge for the zips... Syracuse....plays Va. Tech (#9 RPI) on Friday night before playing the zips If Syracuse beats VA Tech on Friday...., they will be even higher in the RPI. After playing the zips, syracuse next plays Wake Forest... Zips really can move up with a good result against syracuse...I am surprised that Syracuse-VA Tech is not listed in article below (the rankings shown are top drawer poll rankings...not rpi) the surprise team of the MAC is listed in article below... https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-articles/mens-weekend-preview:-sept-28-30_aid44996 No. 24 Northern Illinois (7-2) at No. 11 Portland, 10 p.m. (wccsports.com) One of the breakout teams of the current season, NIU has already well-exceeded last fall’s win total of three. Timely goals have been a big part of the team’s record to this point, with Jan Maertins and Anthony Markanich each snagging two game winners apiece. A trip to the Pacific Northwest for a Friday night clash against the Pilots is a massive test of NIU’s staying power. Benji Michel’s profile and potential pro prospects are growing leading the line for Portland. He has eight goals in nine games, including five winners – it’s difficult to understate his importance to the team. Senior Kienan Weekes' contributions between the posts, in his first season as a starter, have also been important. Prediction: Portland 2-0 Northern Illinois
  20. In USL action last night, Aodhan Quinn had a goal and 2 assists in OC's 5-3 win
  21. one player in college has already scored 19 goals in 9 games (and his team is not playing cupcakes)...thought this article might interest some other readers as Zips fans of the great 2009 team know, it is very hard to go thru a year with 0 losses and 0 ties...Wake Forest and St. Marys are mentioned in article below https://www.collegesoccernews.com/index.php/articles/1215-twelve-of-the-biggest-storylines-at-this-point-in-the-2018-college-soccer-season Shinyashiki, the 2017 Summit League Offensive Player of the Year, is a goal scorer with a work rate that is second to none. Regardless, who would have predicted that he would have scored nineteen goals in an entire season much less after just nine contests. The magnitude of his productivity on the offensive side of the ball is reflected in the fact that he has scored more goals to date than all but a dozen of the 205 NCAA Division I teams in the country.
  22. Michigan ST. improved to 8-0-2 with a 1-0 win over Penn State Quinnipac 4 Canisius 1 Butler 4 Marshall 3 OT Western Michigan 2 Detroit 1 In big 10 play , IU def. NW 2-1 and MD def. Rutgers 2-0 St. Marys improved to 10-0-0 with a 1-0 win over New Mexico
  23. https://gozips.com/news/2018/9/26/mens-soccer-pachecos-hat-trick-leads-akron-to-4-3-overtime-victory-at-vcu.aspx "I'm really proud of our effort tonight," Akron head coach Jared Embick commented. "We had to come back on the road against a great team, which is tough enough, let alone to deal with a delay and the weather conditions. We had a lot of times to give in, but we stuck together and kept fighting. This is a great result."
  24. 2nd half line up below Zips are missing Marco Micaletto tonight. For AKR: #3 RITACCIO, Carlo, #25 STRACHAN, Daniel, #16 TOJAGA, Sam, #4 MILANESE, Marco, #12 BIROS, Colin, #7 KAHSAY, Ezana, #2 HERNANDEZ, Pol, #26 MOHAMED, Abdi, #9 EGBO, David, #1 LUNDT, Ben, #14 PACHECO, Diogo. [45:00]
