  1. Close, but no cigar (2002)
  2. I'm usually a fairly optimistic guy as Zip fans go. But I'm not feeling it this week. Alex Gillette is a pretty good spread QB and he has a lot more experience than LR8. I think that will be a deciding difference. When UA wins in Ypsilanti, it's usually a close game. When they don't, the game usually gets away from them. Huroneagles 31 Zips 14
  3. Nice find, GP. Like Z.I.P. alluded, this map is addictive to any college football fan.
  4. Actually, that is probably true! But if the soccer players, coaches and fans on both sides see it as a rivalry, it probably is. Do the fans of other soccer programs recognize it as a rivalry? Caleb Porter calls it a rivalry. That's good enough for me.
  5. There looked to be about 100-150 red & silvers next to their bench, and quite frankly they were louder than the Rowdies for much of the game. Maybe the incidents Zach mentioned caused the Rowdies to be cautious. Holmes is going to be so much fun to watch! He controls it well, plays smart, and has wicked power from either foot. Yedlin finally got a reward for one of his eye-popping runs down the right flank. Beating that school will never get old. Great job Zips!
  6. Chisel works for me. I just noticed that Sconiers is #36 nationally in receiving yards.
  7. Next week is a big week for Evan, Cameron and Sinisa, as Montreal's 1st MLS head coach Jesse March will be evaluating players from the 2011 NASL squad as well as new players. The Impact narrowly missed out on the NASL playoffs, even though they were clearly one of the top teams down the stretch with all 3 former Zips contributing mightily. Bush's play was particularly exceptional all season, ever since taking over the starting keeper spot from the injured Billy Gaudette. He finished with a staggering 0.755 goals against average! I look for him to have a great shot at opening in goal for the Impact as they enter MLS in 2012.
  8. Really? It's cool if he was. I just don't recall hearing that. AA is the one that sticks in my mind. If A-train was used before, we should go in a completely different direction.
  9. More like "J Train". But he does not run like a train.... he has great peripheral vision and is a slasher. Or how about something from the Chisholm Trail??. I was playing off of the old, jazz standard "Take the A Train", with the A being for Akron. But like the saying goes, if you have to explain it then it probably sucks (I took some liberty with the last part).
  10. Did you pop the top on this one Saturday evening, Johnny? Nope.....I'm saving that one for the first FBS/1-A victory
  11. What "big boys"? Penn State and Michigan? They have a combined 9 points against those two. They have played 2 FCS schools, Howard and Alabama St. They gave Howard a beating. And barely beat Alabama St. EMU is coming in with one of their backs banged up (might not play), There defense is middle of the road and despite putting 49 points on Howard there offense is only ranked 8 points higher than ours. Its a MAC game between fairly even teams. I predict an Akron win 35-31. I sure hope you are right. I have very little confidence in our program. What I saw a few weeks ago against Temple was nothing short of pathetic. EMU would have to be pretty horrible to lose to us. Our offensive line cannot block and our defense cannot tackle or cover. On top of that we have a quarterback, who when not on his back or running for his life, is getting passes picked off or at the very least, batted down at the line of scrimmage. Only bright spot is the running game, but that is only as good as the offensive line in front of it. Which of the following of Temple's early opponents was more pathetic, Team A or Team B? Box Score for Temple @ Team A Box Score for Temple @ Team B
  12. Since we're looking at stats post-VMI, #44 is now #23 nationally in rushing yards, with a nice 5.3 yards/carry average to boot. Speaking of Jawon, I'm trying to come up with a catchy nickname for him. How about "the A-Train"?
  13. I was listening to Chris Childers on Rivals Radio this morning and he made the comment that he looks for Leach to take over at FAU next year. Maybe it's not too late. He is a polarizing character, but he would create a lot of excitement and the offense would be fun to watch. I know. I'm dreaming. Leach may become a Lobo. It makes sense. He knows the area.
  14. Zips are an early 8 point underdog in this key (for the program) road game.

  17. Does that mean you pass on him as a head coach at this point in time? Or does that mean that, regardless of whatever he accomplishes outside of UA, you would NEVER want to see him back at his alma mater as a HC?
  18. Odd, for a Military program? Certainly helpful for the Zips. We're so used to seeing the triple option in these games, it'll be strange to see VMI in a pro set. Some may recall that Bill Stewart ran the triple option at VMI prior to his WVU coaching days.
  19. Gaffney article on VMI and HC Sparky Woods. The Keydets apparently won't be intimidated, taking heart in fellow Big South Conference member G-Webb's win last year. They're biggest problem has been turnovers. The Zips need to play a focused 60 minutes. That was missing against G-Webb.

  21. No doubt. The list of pro athletes who have gone out in style like that is pretty short, and often there is some sort of tragedy involved (Clemente, Gehrig, etc.).
  22. Welcome FIUPanther! You guys sure have a fun team to watch this year. I'm looking forward to seeing them in person.MDZip is pretty quick at the draw. I was about to post the same link.Definitely feel free to stop in Lot 9 right under the scoreboard prior to the game. I'll be glad to fix you both up with a few local brews and you can trade thoughts with some of the Zip diehards Good luck against the Ragin Cajuns and the Blue Devils
  23. Only New Mexico is in the way.
  24. Chisholm's stats are actually pretty good at this point considering the strength of the opposition and the limited passing threat displayed thus far. I say he goes for 150+ with fewer carries this week, and a couple of TDs. I wouldn't be surprised to see Tyler Williams in the Wildcat now that the RS is burned.Zips 38Keydets 17
