All we can do is hope! Hope.......for Akron to suddenly have the kind of money that a school like Arizona has, which allows them to make that kind of decision. And...was this Arizona coach only 1-1/2 years into a 5 year contract? His current contract runs through 2013. The buyout "only" cost them 1.4 million, which sounds relatively small to me (BCS conference and all). I'm not implying that we can afford to do that.

A good summary of the Big East's woes. Good call, Keener! Instead of CUSA II, the writer calls it Conference USA circa 2004 -

Now your getting it. I like when my team wins. Take a guess who my favorite QB at Akron was? I'll give you a hint, his last name starts with a "G." I am older than you. I was there when we lost in the finals of thr D2 championship. So my list to choose from is probably longer than yours. But I understand your point. Hey let's not leave my fellow Torrey Hall resident Ron Gliha out of the discussion

Tender feet I'm glad he doesn't have an agent to suggest that he not play and risk further injury to jeopardize his career. So he didnt start because of tender feet but he played the rest of the game? I am glad he was able to play but then why start off the game with three straight runs? Script plays to take advantage of...the #2 running back. Great plan. He didn't finish the rest of the game. He ended up with only 12 carries.

If some are going...count me in. Planning to see the Massillon-Warren Harding game but it is in Thursday. I don't want be the only old, bald, fat guy standing on the sidelines Hey Doug, how do we know you're not scouting for Charlie? My first love are the Zips. Although I would love to see a Miami-Zip game for the MAC championship...I would do nothing to help or hurt the other side. And when I spent time with the coaches after the last practice, I told Dambrot and Peters I also graduated from Miami. They were OK with it. So would a lot of us, but with a very different result this time!

Wow, that's definitely an interesting read. It's certainly plausible that ESPN not only inserted the knife into the back of the Big East, but also gave it a nice twist or two. If true, this is one of those "truth is stranger than fiction" moments. For old farts like me, Big East hoops and an infant ESPN basically grew up together in as symbiotic of a relationship as TV sports fans had witnessed up until that time (early to mid 80's). To think one of them may have dealt the death knell to the other is a little unsettling, but completely believable. -

The only thing stopping him from the NFL is a major injury. Like MaxZIP mentioned, he's only been back playing full-time for a game or so. Not every successful, pro WR needs to be built and/or play like TO. How did you like his leaping catch over the middle (towards the grass end zone) on a ball thrown well behind him for a KEY 1st down?

It only seems that way because there have been so few players who have commited to UA so far. This was my big concern with getting off to another slow start this year.

+1 Still one of the most ridiculous, classless things I've ever heard of. Love that Nano ran over to the student section after the game winner, ripped off his shirt and taunted the crowd. Typically not in favor of that type of stuff, but they totally deserved it. Umm, inside joke? What are you guys talking about? Before the game against Penn State last year in State College, some of the PSU supporters stole the Akron players' uniforms. Story

I believe having the AK-Rowdies placed behind the John Jay shooters and harassing them was instrumental in our big win. My favorite chant was the "You ain't purty, and your barrel is dirty." I think the Rowdies could have a similar impact on our golf matches. I thought their student supporters (The Bloodhound Gang) had a nice one going there as well: "Central Park’s a mile away From our College, it’s John Jay You cannot foil or bust us He was the first Chief Justice!"

I like the quotes from fans about bad football and consolidating tailgating lots. She managed to find an endangered species in the lots...a three sport season ticket holder who still shows up to tailgate. Nice work Marla. According to the IUCN threatened species hierarchy, I'm going to say we're closer to "near threatened" than "endangered" I agree, this is a nice article. There are probably less than 200 three sport zips season ticket holders in the wild. I believe that should put them at at least endangered status. I married an Akron zip woman does that count as a captive breeding program? Nice!

The discussion started about ONE aspect of his game, the deep ball. If you think Moore has been acceptable in that area, then we disagree. I'm not calling for a change, and actually I can only think of one poster who has recently. I'm also on record saying that he might be able to adjust his timing on throwing the deep ball to have more success. He'd better, because his arm strength isn't going to magically increase overnight. Not that it's a big deal of course, but his career is now through 5 games, not 4.

Ahhh a voice of reason. And mes102, you are correct. Moore connected on deep pass to start off the VMI game, and THAT pass was underthrown/delivered late (take your pick) or else it would have been a TD. People are trying to turn this into a "who should start, PN7 or LR8" debate. Is it really that hard to fathom that, while neither has shown anywhere near the total package up to this point, there are certain things that one does better than the other and vice versa?

I'd probably wait until tomorrow morning. Sounds like you have a winner. JZ84 is correct - Seafood isn't as robust as pork or beef...if you marinate shrimp or scallops overnight, they'll turn to mush. 1/2 hour is all the marinating time it needs before going on the grill. Great. Thanks again. After the letdown of my power source quitting on me at the Temple game, I will finally have satellite tv again. I bought a small generator. So I got that goin' for me, which is nice. See you tomorrow. Always a welcome quote!

I had heard she attended UA (I think the Wiki UA article mentions it also), but wasn't aware that she graduated. This link confirms that she did attend. -
Quade set to whip up on the Generals!

The team has added some more high-flyers to their roster in signing the top three finishers from the 2011 College Slam Dunk Contest: • Jacob “Hops” Tucker of Illinois College, the Slam Dunk Champion. At a mere 5-10, the Carlyle, Ill., native sports a 50-inch vertical leap, and his YouTube video of dunks that has seen well over four million views helped him get invited to the Slam Dunk Contest. Anybody seen that? Never heard of Iliinois College -- wonder what state it's in. I saw that slam dunk contest. The kid is an absolute freak...he jumps like a tick. +1 That was the most entertaining dunk contest I've seen in a good while. -

Three points is a lot. Your right something is up. No way money moved the line. Could it be they are too focused on hosting LeBron? Haven't been able to find out why the spread might have moved. Also for some reason, the USAToday link isn't working anymore.

After reading this thread, I'm beating my head against the wall too.....thinking about how we let two guys be at the forefront of our football program for several years who have done nothing more than coach at the D-II level ever since. That's all the affirmation I need. And their two D2 teams would probably beat the Zips this year. What does that affirm skip? That you believe that a D-II team could beat the Zips ? LOL It always makes me smile when someone make an outrageous comment, assumes it to be true and then wants to make inferences about it. I called it "pre-crime" with my first wife. I did nothing but would get killed on some outrageous thought that would get assumed to be real. So...now we are not only beating up ICoach for losing to GW...we are beating him up for losing to Wayne State and Ashland. LOL I'm not saying I know who would win in a hypothetical Wayne St/Akron matchup this year, but you're kidding yourself if you think there is a huge gap between the bottom of FBS and the top of D-2. But I'll wait to the end of the season before I definitively decide whether UA and Wayne St fall into these respective categories.

Perhaps LR8 can compensate for his lack of zip by releasing the deep ball a little earlier. Up to this point, he hasn't been able to make that adjustment.
-
Sconiers has improved all around, but the thing that most stands out to me is his confidence to catch in traffic AND make a play after the catch is made. He's leaps and bounds ahead of last year in this area. Russell has always seemed to be more of a deep threat with better straight line speed. In this respect, his skills are diminished by LR8's lack of arm strength. It seems like both Russell and Price have been open deep this year with the ball well underthrown. I suppose if you just let PN7 "pinch hit" for the long ball (and the deep out, the one play where PN7 truly does have NFL ability), you'd be showing your hand to the defense.
