  1. I'm still waiting for Ozoner to weigh in on this
  2. Well said! Go Zips!!
  3. I know others are going to disagree with me, but the NIT, CBI, CBA, etc., etc., etc. just don't do it for me. We've been there, we've done that. The games are kind of interesting, and it is nice to have at least some post-season action, but the final 4 of the NIT doesn't have the excitement factor of even a play-in game in the big-dance. NCAA's or bust for me. I've had enough of the consilation prizes. While I agree I wouldn't get too excited about a bid to any of the "other" tourneys, a trip to the NIT semi-finals to watch the Zips play in MSG would actually be quite a thrill IMHO.
  4. My wife and I each got one last year with the season ticket package. We now we only have one, but there's a pretty good story behind it. My daughter has a friend who is from Ghana. Over the holidays, she was fortunate enough to have an opportunity to visit the country and stay with her friend's family. As part of the "Akron/Ohio gift package" we sent along with her, we included one of the scarves because of THIS GUY being another Akron/Ghana connection. So maybe one day we'll see a picture of Kevin-Prince Boateng with a Socceroo scarf?
  5. The Zips have defended the 3-ball very well lately, but it’s probably even more essential that they continue to do this tonight. I seem to have a habit of making predictions that are off by one game. I thought Zeke might roar against Creighton, but it didn’t happen. Maybe this will be the night? Akron 72 Miami 66
  6. Cochran going to Youngstown State - did he get the boot or did he quit??? Interesting. He was a Girard kid who played for YSU, so Youngstown is his home. But Akron is 50 minutes from Youngstown...so there's no "I wanted to move back home for family reasons" excuse. Who knows...who cares.... I am excited to have "The Johnnyzips84 Impostor" as out new S & C Coach! Maybe I could become the Tailgating Strength and Conditioning Coach? The 12 OZ curl is underappreciated
  7. I'll agree there were some really crazy non-calls out there that seemed to go against us, BUT the "foul" by their trapping guys out front on Steve just about made up for the earlier discrepancies. If that call isn't made, the game is COMPLETELY different. I'm willing to leave it as a pretty poorly officiated game that, in the end, didn't really favor one team enough to effect the outcome. Steve's 6-6 at the line might be the biggest stat for me. Way to go Steve. I was obviously WAY OFF on my prediction of Zeke rising to the challenge tonight. Hopefully, he keeps his head in the game and contributes where he can down the stretch. I really think a big part of the turnaround is KD backing off his early season promise to develop Zeke by persistently running the offense through him. At some point, pragmatism takes over. Right now, the Zips are playing better on offense by spreading the ball around and not being so predictable. They're still working it inside to outside, just in a different (and more effective) way. I am salivating at the notion of Q Diggs playing the defense he's been playing lately during a MAC Tourney game at the "Q". Wouldn't that be sort of apropos?
  8. This guy gives the Zips some respect. Zips are a 2 point favorite, which surprises me a little. BUT, I have a feeling Zeke is going to play his best game since K.E.N.T. Zips 76 Jays 71
  9. Great start, Zips! Wouldn't it be great if we had a stat-tracker like that for every game? MSU takes their baseball pretty seriously
  10. I'm a little surprised The Cricket wasn't the previous record holder. I thought he'd played a lot of minutes as a FR ?? McLaughlin became a starter during his freshman season, but I don't know how his minutes would compare to Alex. He was pretty much a part of a 3 guard rotation from that point forward, along with Dowdell and Loyer. Dowling still got some minutes in there too. Thanks, Skip! I definitely recall Loyer playing a lot at the point against Michigan in the '86 NCAAs.

  12. Miami's home basketball crowds are only slightly larger than EMU's home football crowds. Seems like the Miami AD is against fans in general? Man, you're not kidding. Happened to catch a little of the game on the car radio last night. With the score tied at 61 and under two minutes to go, there was essentially NO crowd noise. I had to be reminded by the silly F.L.A.S.H. announcer where the game was being played.
  13. Zips open at Mississippi State today. It's almost like playing against a MLB team. Check out their facilities. Did Will Clark donate some major coin or what?
  14. For those of you who thought we'd NEVER host a Big East championship event
  15. Wartman just picked up an offer from JoePa.
  16. I'll be renewing today and plan ro tailgate in Lot 9 again
  17. So there is a bright side to this hire. Smart aleck comment of the year (so far). Gotta give credit when it's due. One of the bright spots for the Gophers in 2009 was the improvement of the Gopher defense. This improvement was in large part to defensive co-coordinator, Kevin Cosgrove who joined the staff last off-season and made an immediate contribution to the Gopher program. When I spoke with Coach Cosgrove a year ago, he was one of the most controversial Gopher coaching hires, but in a short time, he has earned the respect of many fans. In the 2007 season, the Gophers had the worst total defense in the nation and ranked #119, Ted Roof turned that around in 2008 to finish #73, and Cosgrove was able to improve upon that even more to a #62 ranking. Cosgrove himself admits there is a long way to go, but it is certainly moving in the right direction. It IS good to see that there are some positives in the guy's resume'. Evaluating a coaching hire is a lot different than evaluating (or trying to evaluate) a recruiting class. Cosgrove certainly has enough of a track record to peruse. I'm curious about the portion of your response that I put in bold. Did you personally speak with him? Or is this copied from another article? BTW, Football Scoop finally has the scoop But as a side note, this link also has Tom Stacy taking the TE/RB job at Ashland.
  18. The hoop looks a whole lot bigger when you get on a roll like this. Unreal.
  19. This is exactly what the Dr (Z?) ordered!!
  20. Vegas has it as a pick 'em game. Don't let Scott Thomas bang the boards for easy ones. Once he has success there, he often starts hitting on all cylinders. Same for Calhoun. Box out, Zippers.
  21. That day was the second most gut wrenching day of my athletic career, outside of the Can't State loss that same season. In regards to the hire, hate to say I told you so but.... You certainly did. But although many of us wanted Vince to get it, I'm not so sure if any of us really expected it to happen. Looked for a little confimation on FootballScoop with no luck. But there's this hidden gem from February 14: The jokes may now begin
  22. While you were gone we filled our Defensive Coordinator position. I lobbied as had as I could on your behalf, be UA decided to go for a guy that couldn't stop Northern Illinois, Ball State or North Dakota State while coaching at Big 12 and Big 10 schools. Or Chuckie Frye for that matter!
  23. Interesting Bit of Irony - Look at Pics #18 and #19 Wasn't this the infamous "Hendry scored....no he didn't game" in which the Zips should have tied/went ahead late in the 4th only to have Lee Evans haul in a 99 yard TD on the very next play to kill our chances?
  24. Agreed. But let's just say the recent trend isn't very encouraging. Does anyone recall Ball St. narrowly missing out on an upset in Lincoln (41-40)? How about Kansas and Mangini laying SEVENTY-SIX on the Huskers? Both occurred with Cosgrove as DC.
